Thanks for this guys! I've had an espresso maker my parents gave me for a couple years but it didn't come with instructions and I had no idea how to use it ...I love cappuccinos and I just made my first one following your instructions :) . Thanks !
I have a 20 year old Krups that I've used occasionally over the years. Lately, I've been hooked on macchiatos and seem to get them right on this machine. Thanks for putting this up for me!
Thank you for making this video! I looked everywhere to find out how to use our steam wand and bonus I now also know how to sweeten and flavor our cappuccinos. You two rock!
I just discovered this video & it is very helpful ! I just bought a espresso machine so I needed help in how to use it. Thank you very much for this RUclips!
I just got a braun like the one in your video--I'm from Portland too, this is gonna be a new habit to me and will be a change to my french press I've had since the late 80's. I got my Braun at the Goodwill for $4.99, that's a good price.
Omg thank you so mush for this video I just picked one up at a thrift store and didn t know how to use it thank you thank you thank you!!! you are an expresso master!!! what joy it has broght to you guys love how you started the video with the story of how you guys thought you weren't going to use it hahahahahah a toast to the people who gave you your first one.!!!!
Yes, alive and kicking! Does your maker have the frothing snorkle-thing? Bubbles are a sign of (usually) not enough milk in the cup or not enough pressure. So try adding a either a little more milk or make sure your coffee is ground small enough and packed firmly in the basket. Also, wait 'til near the end - you get the best pressure then. Hope that helps you out!
Skim milk or 1 percent Milk Fat, chilled milk, creates the best steamed frothy foam. The reasons are: 1) the expansion of the heated milk is easier to get with lighter Milk Fat; and, 2) the expansion of the milk from chilled to a rapidly steamed higher temperature is easier to achieve. The microwave heated milk is hot but not expanded into a foam as fully although the hotter temperature is arrived at faster. This is my opinion from my observation tests. I want to add that one reason you don't dip the nozzle deep into the milk is that it will boil the milk. Steaming the milk is easier if you tilt the container to create a small pool of milk at the edge of the container and then you dip the wand to just under the surface of the pooled milk. IF you touch the side of the container with the wand you will heat the container and then the entire milk contents, which defeats the aim of heating only the surface of the milk to expand it into foam, and allowing the cold milk to circulate from bottom of the container to the top surface as it does over 30 seconds. You will see the froth build on the top of the milk quickly and hear the lovely steaming sound instead of a bubbling boiling sound. Hope you don't mind me adding my comments? I enjoyed your demo. I wouldn't have commented if I didn't think so. I love that you two have a great ritual taking time to give each other your attentions everyday. Our cottage is in the Muskoka Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. What does your view look like?
Appreciate this video. We've had the same machine you use for 5-6 years and I had never used it. 2nd try was a charm, as the first time I didn't let the water in the chamber get hot first and the espresso came out thin (duh). Mixed mine with a little chai and coconut milk--yum!
I have a Braun 3062 from 18 years ago... :) now I think I can start using it after watching your video. (it looks brand new since I've only tried once 18 years ago. :) ) Also, so moved to see a happily married couple enjoying coffee together. It is rare to see that traditional value kept in America. thumb up!
I'm on the way for Brian's macchie cap, blowing dust on the prairie. I reckon this Will work out just fine, my daughter lives in Portland. Good video, helpful and informative, thx!
jernizzle459, I have only used inexpensive Braun and Krups cappuccino makers. I have a Mr. Coffee one that I've used a few times with good results. The ones I like do not have an electric pump for steam. I'm not sure where to find Braun or Krups machine like this anymore except at thrift stores or ebay. You can buy the Mr. Coffee model for about $40 at Target or WalMart.
Nicely done.Thank you for uploading. I just purchased the exact krups machine you are using in this video from a local thrift shop myself. Never been used for $7.99!! It came with the instruction booklet but I was confused after the first page. So glad I found your VLOG. Can't wait to give it a try :)
I this KRUPS cappuccino vet learned a lot by watching your video, thank you! My tips are using filtered water in the water chamber & gently compacting the coffee grounds inside the filter cup with an improvised tamper; anything from a wood or stone mortar, to the bottom of an ordinary orange plastic pill bottle, that I keep handy beside the machine. Maybe that's why my mini KRUPS machine has lasted nearly 20 years, only needing a new knob around the 15th year, which was inexpensively purchased on ebaY?
Thank you for the crash course! I found the exact little machine at a thrift store (still in the box!!) but it was missing the user's manual =( so this really helped!!! Thank you!!
The ending to that video was perfect. Thank you. I do the exact same thing but yours comes out a hundred times better than mine! I must just have an old machine. :/
Well, once you get the hang of it, it goes fairly quickly. I make two every morning and it takes me only about 7 minutes - less time than it takes to wait in line for one!
Catalina La Bella i still confused how to make a different between latte macchiato and espress. macchiato...are them just about ratio between espresso and frothed-milk (with milk "dosage" much than the espresso)?
I looked this up bc I have the same machine but can't get the foam to work well. It seems to work a lot better without the extension. Really disappointed this one can't make just foam without making coffee. Good video! I got mine used too.
+LVAngelradio Yes, if you want to just make foam without making coffee, you can do that if you have the little metal cap that goes in the coffee basket. But you only get this part with a new machine, unfortunately.
@OP It's the difference between the Cafe Macchiato and the Latte/Cap. Macchiato. One is "stained espresso" the other is "stained milk". The video shows some form of Latte Macchiato.
outgoing couple! i usually have filtered coffee every morning, but that is just for me because my parents don't like that type of coffee, my sister's too,and every ones that i knew think this way??? i use a Braun coffee machine that is still perfect(i must confess that is my third machine,i like the older ones not pretty much) good luck
These old models are probably not available anymore, since they were thrifted to begin with. I would buy a basic machine without an electric steam pump.
BigRed50261, I bet your coffee isn't ground fine enough or you're not packing it tightly enough into the little basket. If the steam goes too easily through the grounds, it doesn't build up enough pressure. As you see in the video, I don't have any special technique for getting thick foam. I just submerge the rubber part of the "snorkel" into the milk and turn the steam valve about half a turn.
We've never done that, but it would be a good one to learn! We do add a drizzle of chocolate through the foam - maybe start with chocolate milk and proceed?
I've been looking everywhere for a video with my machine and finally I came across yours. I just cannot get the milk to froth! I don't know if I'm opening the knob too far too fast, or using too much milk or what. It's getting warm, but not thick. Please help!

Yay!
you guys remind me of portlandia
I found one one these cool expresso machines today at the thrift store. This video was so helpful thank you
Glad I could help!
This looks totally doable. I always see those tiny espresso machines for sale at my local Goodwill store. I may just give this a try.
Love the video. It was simple and right to the point of a good cup of cappuccino the way I like it!!
Glad you liked it!

You're welcome!!

You save my life, I dont have idea how to use this machine, thanks
NancY JuareZ, so glad you found it helpful. That's why we decided to make it.
I got one of these given to me, so now I can try this, thank you.
Hope you enjoy it like we have!

Wonderful Michael! Great tips, too - thanks.
Thank you! I threw away the instructions, after I had thought I threw away the maker. The extra info was much appreciated as well. Cheers!
Thank you for helping me work out how to use this machine! You're a beautiful couple! Love, peace and joy from a happy coffeemaker in Norway :)
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure!
Thanks guys for good tips! :)
actually I can only make two at a time ….hahahahahah so funny....we will wait...
Thank you for the crash course! I found the exact little machine at a thrift store (still in the box!!)

The video was very interested
The ending to that video was perfect. Thank you.
I do the exact same thing but yours comes out a hundred times better than mine!
I must just have an old machine. :/
Glad this was helpful Nicole. I'd say to keep trying - it took me awhile. Practice makes…better at least. :)

I have a Espresso Maker Westinghouse ....I am going to make a café marrón claro ! Thanks so much!

Well done- Thanks!
Thank you too!
Omg this is SO OREGON! Reminds me of Portlandia! How hilarious! I like it though!
So true lmao. It's like a coffee lover's skit
Thank you so much! This was very helpful.
I like the videos but you have a misunderstanding about what macchiato means. Its when you just put a dollop of foam on top of the espresso.
Thanks! That's not the definition we heard, though we do know that we've seen this described as a 'macchiato latte' :)
Kyle Berube it means you mark the foam with espresso.
@OP It's the difference between the Cafe Macchiato and the Latte/Cap. Macchiato. One is "stained espresso" the other is "stained milk". The video shows some form of Latte Macchiato.
Aww, cute couple : ) I just got a espresso machine so very helpful video, txs!

I've had good luck with krups.
it's really useful!! my friend give me a second-hand espresso machine but i don't exactly how to use! u really help me about that!!!! :)
I purchase an old mr. Coffe version. To test you tip's and it works. !!!!
Very well done educational classy informative peaceful knowledgeable and the "gotta be fair" comment made me laugh. Thanks!
Thank you!
Great video! Thanks for posting this-and now I am off to fire up our little krupps machine for the first time ever. 😄
Yeah! Hope you enjoy your coffee. :)
AnOregonCottage How do you descale your espresso maker? Do you just run white vinegar through it or do you buy a commercial product?
Good explanation. Which one of the three machines is better to buy. Thank you.
These old models are probably not available anymore, since they were thrifted to begin with. I would buy a basic machine without an electric steam pump.
Great video! Just made one with my cheapo Krups FND1
Can u show how to clean the milk steamer? Mine doesn't work at all
If no steam comes out, it's probably blocked. You can try unscrewing the little metal nozzle and cleaning that out with a pin.
@@AnOregonCottage that actually worked! Thank you! We now enjoying amazing lattes👍😊
@@kimkropf2568 Yay!

Una pregunta cómo puedo con seguir la perilla de la del capuchino no la tiene
Your machine must be a different kind? Does it have anything that you can adjust for the steam?
Great video, thanks. Was wanting to know how to use my mr.coffee machine and the instructions were too broad.
What kind of coffee do you use? Espresso blend?
No specific blend - we like a dark French roast. I just make sure to grind it very fine to be able to pack in the basket.
Dude, that video was baller. You two are a lovely couple. Thanks for the easy to follow instructions.
Wait, you don't use ground espresso?
Yes, an espresso grind works well.
help, how do I use my new (old) krups 993? no I can't get a new one I have to use this one. thanks!
The Krups 993 looks identical to the Mr. Coffee model used in the video. So you can just follow the instructions. :)
+AnOregonCottage Thanks!! Your video helped me make my first espresso!! Do you by chance know how I could make the closest thing to a Starbucks Mocha?
We've never done that, but it would be a good one to learn! We do add a drizzle of chocolate through the foam - maybe start with chocolate milk and proceed?
thank you
Very helpful, thank you!
I've been looking everywhere for a video with my machine and finally I came across yours. I just cannot get the milk to froth! I don't know if I'm opening the knob too far too fast, or using too much milk or what. It's getting warm, but not thick. Please help!
Bro, thank you for your tutorial. RUclips is amazing.
Oh I thought you weren't supposed to overtighten the lid!
You want the lid snug, but not overtightened.
Where are they now😂
Still here - working on an old farmhouse and planning more videos. :)
Macchiato means spotted in Italian
thanks for the Video! I got this crazy machine last month - now i know how to use it! :)
because he uses preground coffee. It loses its oils
Macchiato- espresso with a dash of frothy steamed milk
Yes, this is more a macchiato latte, which is why we say style. :) We do pour through the foam, so the spotted description works!
alot of work just for just a cappuccino tbh
Depend on what your doing. mine is straight black
thank you
You're welcome!
