David Keenan performs his song Postcards From Catalonia for This Ain’t No Disco, the online Irish music showcase directed by Myles O’Reilly hosted by DJ and visual artist Donal Dineen. www.davidkeena...
This song helped me to get thru my month long stay at the hospital, I just laid there, lipsyncing to David's words and kinda shutting the white walls outside my head and focusing on my memories and what good comes to my head thanks to this song ❤
Well done Julian!
Reminds me about Graham Parker, Tom Waits and Glen Hansard. Thank you for your music, it's amazing.
Striking and strongly evocative. I love the voice, the lyrics and the clarity of playing including the simplicity and beauty of the solo guitar links. I pay homage to Catalonian postmen .. and the risks they face! Sent me back to David Keenan's 'Unholy Ghosts'. (I liked the filming too...the intro - and the city's background buzz combined with the square's space and sparse foot traffic : echoed for me with the singer's small room alone-ness). Thank you!
Well said Tony.
I'm late to the party but i have to say this is an excellent piece of song writing. honestly can't get enough of it!
It's never too late to enjoy happiness.
We want the REAL thing! We want David Keenan.

Beautiful beautiful voice!!! I’m from Cavan and in a way our accents aren’t too dissimilar! Anyway, hola from Cavan 😉

He's calling all the bards in...
Bob Dylan is still alive luckily. But David is very talented too.
Anyone transcribed the lyrics?
Spit it out release that precious piece of pebble dash from your mouth.
Thats a working class jewel floating around your hopeless head, it ain't for chewing on its for looking through instead.
I've been told to be a seer one must be ruthless...
...So i've eaten the yellow text of Paul and Brutus
The suit sayers came and went now I believe
to be reborn we first must cultivate a seed...
Man spit it out, release that precious piece of pebble dash from your mouth
that's a working class jewel spinning around your hopeless head...
in fortune or not it's for looking through instead
and you prefer the common stone to the pearls...
under the plexiglass with the factory girl
who told her sister all about ye hanging bedsheets on a clothes line in the sun
she keep you warm
she keep you fed
may have gone and lost your bed...
on the doorstep of this sick of an indigineous society
and as Christmas comes
send word to all the ones
who watch might disowned it
twenty five days after defection now im sat in the cheapest of rooms
theres an oil lamp defianetly snapping at the shadows.
i've had notions to start playing chess
but the mice they have stolen the pieces
i've told them to start paying rent or they must leave
i am anchored in an armchair
i am writing my letters
i intend on shooting the postman when he passes the door
i havent eaten for thirteen days
ive taken the form of a Bosnian beggar
and in the read the preachers are screaming and shouting
tell the mother im home
tell the mother im home
and as Christmas comes
send word to all the ones...
who woud love to be remembered by the ghost of November on St. Stephens' day
...in some miniscule way
across the city they're sending postcards to Catalonia
across that city thery're sending postcards to Catalonia
i wont get out now so heres a postcard from Catalonia
for those at home... sending my love from Catalonia.
not sure ive gotten it exactly but ^
