*What GRIP do you use? INTERLOCK, OVERLAPPING OR BASEBALL?*
Fantastic video bro
I use the baseball grip. The other grips feel too loose for me.
Overlapping
Great video!!!! Baseball for the first year and the interlock for the last 24. 🌞 💪
Never walk on frozen grass.
If you're drawing a lot or feel like your hands are taking over too much, then maybe size up to midsize on the grip. But for most starters that have normal size hands, I would not recommend going to midsize. It makes it much harder to draw he ball and have control of the swing. I learned this the hard way, even after asking my coach and he said the same thing, I did it anyway... MAN did I regret it. Not only was i hitting the ball poorly, i couldn't even tell what i was doing wrong, i felt no control. I guess this is personal opinion, but its the same opinion my coach had and hes been golfing for 45 years so his word is better than mine haha
At the same time, regripping is cheap, maybe try it on a couple clubs and see if you like it. Dont do what i did and regrip all your irons just to have them regripped again a week later.
I’m an interlocker!
Tried this 3-finger trick today and found a huge difference in control - after the first 2 I topped, because the club-length is just that tiny bit shorter doing this.
After that, I was off and running.
Thanks for this… 👏👏👏💪
I am an overlapper and a novice golfer trying to find the groove...Great video! I took the opportunity to try this method this morning in my backyard before going to work. Lined up a pitching wedge and hit the first a bit left. Made a slight adjustment and hit the next 4 flush and as tight to my target as I ever have. I felt like I was barely "swinging" the club but my lag and contact were spot on and resulted in shots easily 20 yards further than what I was doing yesterday. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to trying 8 and 9 irons!
I use the overlap, although I did use the interlock for my first 45 years golfing. I just changed one day on the first tee and it felt right, and I did well. My first decent irons, many years ago, were MacGregor Tourneys, 1974 vintage, with stiff shafts and the black leather oversized grips like Nicklaus used. (Leather grips, sounds like the stone age.) Took a while to learn to hit them well but, as they were assembled before epoxy was used, I had a couple of instances where the heads flew off at contact. Went to Pings and now Wilsons but I use standard size grips as I'm 73 and oversize grips make me slice (I have a few oversize gripped clubs so this is from experience.)
But, your comment and demo on gripping down on the short irons is quite thought provoking as I drive the ball well but tend to chunk the short shots, a source of intense frustration for me. I'll definitely try this on this coming Monday, my next tee time.
BTW, for a "baseball grip," I played baseball on a mens' team back about 38 years ago and found that holding the bat more in my fingers rather than the palm made for more consistent contact with a pitched ball. I suppose I was using a golf grip for baseball, but it worked for me.
Thanks for an entertaining and informative video, though as a Florida resident, I really can't relate to frosted greens and fairways. 😀
EDIT: I played 18 today and used this technique and IT WORKED. More consistent contact and less of a tendency to try to "hit" rather than "swing." Thanks for the tip!
Great video Alex. Tried this and now feel that I have much more control over those shots from 150 yards in. Thanks !
well very topical for myself (slipped 11 to 13 handicap) - Ive been interlock since 14 years old when started and 2 weeks ago saw a video so have changed 2 things a) more V of grip s to shoulder and now have overlap grip. I used to have my fail as block to right with driver and then keep going right but now my club head gets through quicker and I hit straighter. I mainly put this down to the overlap grip change and I already feel its comfortable - perservere for 2 weeks and youll love it
Thank You Alex! Explains A Lot of my poor wedges and even occasionally chips.
That rip about the midsized is so important. Midsized grips are amazing for small hands. Feels more like you are in control of the weight of the head. Great tips as always mate. That looks like a stunning course. Might need to film a break 80 there... Fancy it?
I used to overlap, but I didn't have the control. Now, I interlock and use mid-sized grips. I have also been shortening my grip from 125 and in,and it has been helping my game a lot.
Great video Alex! Would you recommend gripping higher for longer irons (7 and lower)?
This was an excellent video for me Alex! I use an interlock grip and on a number of occasions, I do grip the club too long. I try for at least an inch up from the butt of the club, but do not always succeed. As you demonstrated, I do use clock positions on my backswing in judging these carry distances. After viewing this video, I will definitely pay more attention and not rush to conclusions! Well done Alex!
I use the baseball 10 finger grip. Grew up playing baseball and didn’t play golf till I was 25. Have tried to switch to another grip but always feels loose in my hands.
I have big hands and play a mid size Lamkin Sonar grip. And have pondered going to a jumbo size grip this year. In fact I got a Bryson Chambo super jumbo grip on my old favorite driver the Wilson Deep Red and pondered going super jumbo too. I like it.
Loose is ok.
I'm not an instructor, but I believe your trailing hand could be looser than your leading.
If you watch Fred Couples with driver, his right forefinger and thumb actually leave the club at impact, just guiding the club with his palm.
Nice!! Did you find the transition hard??
I only hit my 9 iron a total distance of 95 yards in the summer.
Would you still advice a short hitting senior to grip down on 9 irons to lob wedge?
With wet fairways my distance is even shorter.
Overlap grip using my mid size grips. Best decision I've made in a while getting them put on.👍🏻
Good choice! Like it!!
Love the tip. What about the Driver to 7 iron. 3 fingers also?
Like the gripping down concept. Will give it a try. Was also interested in your comment about wearing a small glove but using a midsize grip. Do you feel it helps players to get a slightly larger grip size??
👌🏾Great stuff!!! Did this lately and so much better hitting the crispy shots into the ⛳️s
*Golf Pride MCC Align +4 Mid sized grips and a large glove
I discovered that I was way up on the shaft by the hole I had in my glove. I choked down just a bit and definitely find I have better control.
I will try this 👏🏻👏🏻
Mid -sized grips are also better for those with arthritis (over worked) hands that don't close completely like a tight fist anymore.
I Just put jumbo max grips (small) on my driver and can’t wait to test it out. I too have wrist issues.
Always used overlap - but quite a few years ago broke my wrist - since then baseball grip so much better for me - still manage to play of 7 with it - just need to make sure no gaps start to appear between hands.
It can be easier for older people as well or those with arthritis, etc.
@AlexElliottGol1f Hi Alex. Probably me being dopey but use what "name" 🤔😊🏌️🏼♂️
Brilliant tip , helped me completely
Thank you so much Mitchell how was your golf this weekend??
Alex what really creates distance in the golf swing? Thanks
I have a question..how do I identify the sweetspot of an iron from a standing position? Stressdr.
I've always interlock, basically that's how I learned but also have pretty large hands. Also use Jumbo grips, problem I seem to have is chunking the ball or blading it. Really trying to decide whether single length irons are worth it? Alex I would like your opinion on that, please? Also being a taller golfer I think it might be worth it.
keep your eyes on the channel ill have you sorted!
Man in the frost seeing the divet ball then the ground really showed but how do you take such a long divet? When I hit the ball then ground I take little or no divet.
My clubs were built 1/2" shorter, if I grip down 2-3 fingers, I would have to club up to obtain my normal distance?
If I make a shorter grip, I always get a feeling not reaching down. Do I have too short club then?
Thanks Alex I struggle from 100 yds in I always seem to pull my short shots to the left
Let me know how you get on with this Ian?!
@@AlexElliottGolf will do Alex 👍
same for me
@@AlexElliottGolf Hi Alex I tried your tip today, holding further down the grip by 3 fingers. My approach shots from 120 yds in were so much better, thanks now I just need to sort out my putting! Out of the 9 holes I played I 3 putted 6 of them any help with this would be greatly appreciated
Love it!!
Glad you like it!
With a nice strike, how much distance do you think would be lost ? I understand the loss isn't and shouldn't be an issue, just curious.
I'm guessing not more than 5%.
Great video Alex! I'm having issues with club face control when at the range/simulator. I usually struggle with closing the clubface on my longer irons after practicing pitch/chip shots. I don't have the issue prior to that. Any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks as always.
Thank you Scott!! Do you close to
Much or not enough??
@@AlexElliottGolf Not enough, I end up leaving the face very open.
This spring I'm gonna club up, grip down 3 ", and 3/4 swings. Last year missed too many greens with full all out swings ... too short or too long. #break80
great video
Thanks for the visit
I use a reverse overlap
Have you always used that Larry
@AlexElliottGolf No, about 2yrs ago I switched.
I used the Vardon grip until an ongoing wrist injury forced the change. I opted out of surgery due to prolonged recovery. I could no longer keep my right hand on the club so I experimented. This is when I began using the reverse overlap grip. Although I still have some pain I now can play again with controlling the club.
What does this grip adjustment do to your lie angle! Should flatten...
Thanks!
Thanks demon!!!
@@AlexElliottGolf no probs bro I wil even do more because your advice is the best
@@demonlord5770 Appreciate that!!!

Ironically I was telling my wife today that she may want to change her baseball grip to one of the others and then of course Alex has a video on it!
Haha love that
Baseball with midsize grips.
Nice!! Have you always done baseball?
@@AlexElliottGolf I changed several years ago when I discovered more powerful drives with this grip. It works for me.
Can't believe that they let you on the golf course with frost.
How come?
@@AlexElliottGolf Alex, Love the channel! I've sent you a DM on your Facebook page.
You want to get some socks on in that frost lad!
Hahahaha trainer socks are on I promise hahah
@@AlexElliottGolf Seriously though, I have small hands like you and use midsize grips. I have tried baseball, interlocking and overlap grips over the years and all seem equal to me. I prefer overlap despite small fingers as with interlock I end up interlocking too deep and then tend to grip too tightly.
A lot of women on the lpga grip way down
Have you tried it???
I’m going to
🏌🏌🏌🏌🏌
Hi Ken!!!
15 second grip tip. Video is 6 minutes long
Dude, you actually did a clickbait vid saying Fowler was going to liv?! Just stop already.
I think it’s a huge possibility 😳
Will try it Thursday at Carramar golf course Perth WA Les from Perth WA 🏌️🏌️🏌️⛳⛳⛳🤔🤔🤔

Well done alex 🏌♂️ 🙂 👍 Harry vardon grip I use 👏
Thank you Roy!! Have you always used the vardon? grip?!
When I first started playing I was 9 yrs old and used a baseball grip then as I got a pro to look at my grip he said try the Harry vardon grip it keeps your hands working together iv never looked back since 🏌🙂
one for .e to try
Thank you I hope it helps
I break 75,80 and sometimes 90 But on the way up. 🤪🤣🏌♂️🍻🇱🇷
Ow no!!!! How is your pitching???
@@AlexElliottGolf depends on the day 😝. Consistency is my problem. Thanks for your time.🍻
