When John Sullivan died people were replying how much of a genius he was. Roy Clarke is also like John another genius of comedy. Of course Last of the Summer wine, Keeping up Appearances, Open all Hours and of course Still open all Hours.
@@Belzedar Watched Give My Head Peace since it started around 1997 or 1998. Big fan very funny sitcom. Uncle Andy and Da and Ma and the son who looks as old looking as the Fa.
Yes and yes again to this show. The main characters are superbly cast, it brings a philosophy of life to current times that almost doesn’t exist any more, and it’s peaceful tone adds a layer of calmness and contentment difficult to find today. Then, add the scenery, and you have a masterpiece. Thanks.
One of my favourite progs I went to a gala for the boys brigade at Holmfirth with mum and we met and had a chat to most of the cast. It made her day. I still have their autographs and pics Bill was a staunch supporter of the boys brigade he was a fine actor having been in several films variety of roles
Clergy was my favourite, he reminded me of my Dad. I can't imagine other actors in these roles especially Compo, Bill Owen was absolutely amazing as Comp.
Last of the summer wine is repeated double bill of classic episodes on drama at around 6.40 pm to 8 pm. Old classic characters like Sid and Wally Batty.
I'm 75. When I quote these wonderful lines in similar situations, people either burst out laughing or stare at me as if I'm crazy as they just don't understand Roy Clarke's good old fashioned humour.
Same, I used to watch the British comedy block every weekend on some random local channel they showed Mr. Bean, Black adder, Dads army, Last of the summer wine, Red dwarf, Are you being served and Keeping up appearances. I really miss all of those shows.
What I like about this episode is the religious music and the cricket interlude. Unlike Clegg, I know how to take strike and hold the bat properly (cricket is my favourite game). Sir Lionel of Bonjour La Classe fame took Holy Orders!
I often wonder what the people in the street thought when they found out they were in the programme when they watched it,i would be thrilled to have been one of them.
"The only consolation I have, is that one of them went home with a trouser leg full of fluff! If he goes into ten more houses, think of the pollen he'll be spreading!" 😂
Am I totally mad or did Nora batty used to travel on a motorbike? Edit from 2 months later. First off wow, it still lets me edit my comments? That's pretty crazy. Secondly it was actually her husband Wally that had the bike and the full biking leathers. He was tiny and the leather gear was too big for him. Nora rode in the sidecar with goggles and an "I can't be having with this sort of thing" expression.
And Jean Fergusson who played Marina did a theatre show where she played the comedienne and actress Hylda Baker despite her being a lot taller than Hylda was
Ah sorry to disallusion you that's the thing his double was just that facially and hair if you saw them you would not know the real one and Bill was considered too old and valuable to the cast to do anything remotely dangerous wish I'd got the name of the other chap maybe someone in miggy will know
@@pamelabarnes1971 thanks! thats pretty cool to know. cheers! and now you mention it, its really hard to make out the face clinging so desperately to the mane of that donkey! far out!
These shows are funny but I hate the the women treat the men like shit. I have all son's and I'm sensitive about this. I still enjoy the writing and acting though.
Though it is exaggerated for the programme the women of this generation often controlled their husbands every movement. In the 1990s and early 2000s I worked in a catering establishment where we would regularly get coach parties of retired couples and it was always the wives who made the decisions about what to eat, where to sit etc. My theory of this is that these men have hardly had to make a decision their entire lives as when they were young their mothers would have done everything for them, at work most of them would have had menial jobs or been in the armed forces taking orders from bosses or superior officers. Their wives would probably have been full time housewives and mothers running ever aspect of their married lives so when the men retire they are totally subservient to them
Somehow,
whenever I watch this show,
it makes the world a gentler
and a simpler place to live.
Yes! Me too.

Those were nearly all English sitcoms. Check out the Scottish "Still Game", the Welsh "High Hopes" and the Northern Irish "Give My Head Peace"

Ashamed to admit that I have actually been carried out of a pub after a surfeit of alcohol. This was back in the 70s, and was never repeated.!
i remember i was there you were a bucket of laughs that day
Grew up in Yorkshire in the 90s...it was heaven
I miss all these wonderful stars and my favorite show. RIP darling's. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's a sad fact that they were mostly of a similar age and so many of them died in a span of five years or so
Compo is a legend my favourite character got to love how he is always smiling and laughing!!
And Wally. Clegg, Wally, and Compo were my crushes many years ago. I still love watching these and all my britcoms. They give me lots of peace.
Yes my favorite the faces he makes priceless
I agree there he was always my fav so funny he was
I adore them all .keep showing these great comedians. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💓
❤❤❤100%❤❤❤ Best actors ever...
Love this show shame they don't make programmes like this anymore
That's what makes them so unique and doubly wonderful to re-visit.

I SO LOVE "LAST OF THE SUMMERWINE"!! THANK YOU
Not any shows like this anymote. I love it . Every character I'd funny.
my late father ( a Sheffielder) used to say " There's two types of people in the world, Yorkshiremen and them as wants to be "
I will speak to *himself* on your beak 🐝 half. 🐝
I wish that they was still on tv
same, i don't want to pay for brit tv app lol

Milburn grew on me eventually. I missed Sid so much, but Milburn filled the gap for me in the end! It can't have been easy for him.
Love this show so very much. Pure and simple living. No stress at all. U LOOK LIKE A USED TEA BAG she says !
One of my all time favorites shows
A used tea bag, they had a special relationship ❤️
you do the best video and audio, I love this show
Seymour was a great addition to this classic show
I'm not that crazy about Seymour, but I loved foggy. He was such a pompous ass.😘
Especially when he was used as an excuse to introduce dear old Thora Hird as his sister !!
It went up ten notches in my opinion then
I didn't care for Seymour at the time because I wanted Foggy back. But then I would have been sixteen. Now Seymour is absolutely hilarious!
I love this series I just wish I could find them on dvd.

I have some my mum left me from the early years when she passed. Have you tried TCM they have a shopping site you might find them there.
I bought them on Amazon from year one til on.
Look on eBay some store might have new copies of the series. I have a universal DVD player so I can play ever from different regions
I love this show my favorite character Bill Owen Compo was hiliarious😂
beautiful show ..
I Love Compo Too My Favourite Character From Last of the summer wine ❤
Same here. Compo was my favorite and always will be
The episodes involving his funeral made me cry like a baby.

Great video as usual!!

So sorry for Wally Batty. He is pushed around by a woman three times his size: height and width.
Nora and Wally remind me of Flo and Andy Capp.
Filmed in 1986. God rest their souls.

Mrs Twitching too small and dry .

If a show like this is written again, the men should be able to get their own back on the women.
It would lose its humour then.
Gary Galt absolutely would lose humour. Those northern women are tough.
Peter sallis cute
At 19.00 mins, I reckon the camera operator is having a cheeky smoke.
Half the screen is missing, hopeless

A lot of Compos stunts were done by Stuart Fell who had also worked as a stunt man on Doctor Who during the 70s and 80s.
