I see someone already beat me to the compliments about the new microphone. Much better! I imagine you could also use a guillotine paper trimmer for this work, and they come in some pretty big sizes, with guide marks already in place.
The lapel mic is a huge improvement! Interesting observation - have you been getting any 1170C with the new thinner backing material? We have gotten a lot of 1170C rolls with the thinner backing and it is a pain to peel back. Seems to have lines/air bubbles on the edges near the end of the roll too. Sure do miss that thick backing material, much easier to peel back...
I have noticed the thinner backing. It is a real pain to work with. Trying to peal it apart is much harder. I was told by a rep it was to cut down cost without having to raise the price.
