Yeah I skipped that folklore too. I tend not to buy pounds but when I do it's something I know I like. I don't know what they're thinking, probably trying to get rid of it like you said
Morning Brian, Great things are getting better there buddy, that’s alot of ice & snow! I passed on Folklore but then regretted it, I’ve heard it’s not that great so no biggie then, lucky escape. I’ve just picked up one of your pipes, so looking forward to that arriving. Look after yourselves. Ross
Good morning and Happy Saturday my friend. I'd like to see you open the Pelican, since I believe in a previous video you said that is your favorite. On the Folklore, I liked that there was a limit on purchase of 1 package. However I agree with you that they need to do something with the timing of the release. I find myself staying up until 11 to make sure to be able to get some. While I thought the limit of 1 purchase would help keep it in stock longer, I was just slightly shocked by the next morning it was all gone. The small batch, limited edition is a marketing ploy. As to the Folklore, the best way I can describe it. If you are watching a tv and it has a ghost like image whited out behind a person because of some quality of film or tv on the fritz, this is kind of like having Warped Scarecrow faintly in the background. At least that's what I'm picking up. It's unique, interesting. But not Carolina Red Flake status.
Ah the ever elusive unicorn blends. Surprise me. Been eyeballing briar fox for sum time r now gonna have to pull the trigger now! Good to see u as always beans!
Brian, Good to see ya. Glad you are doing good. I enjoy Briar Fox. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Keep em burning and Blessings from Gettysburg Pa..
Hello, Beans! I have to agree with you on the Folklore part. Since I live in Sweden, the folklore disappeared as quickly as it came for me. If I were to waste some money on it, including possible taxes and VAT, the price would be even higher, so if I were to dislike it, then I would sit here with a pound of tobacco that I wouldn't know what to do with. If I had liked it, then I would sit here with ''ONLY'' a pound of tobacco with no chance of ever getting a refill. I think I will stick mainly to my Kajun Kake, Haunted Bookshop and Autumn Evening.
Thanks for the review. That was my big issue with folklore too. Not going to buy a pound of a blend I’ve never tried. Looking forward to your unicorn series.
Brian you hit the nail on the head on C&D small batches. I look forward to watching your videos and think that an early Saturday morning live would be great. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed week.
I feel you on the folklore lb frustration brother. I couldn’t wrap my mind around that one either. I generally don’t chase small batch blends because I usually end up not liking them, or I end up liking them so much that I want more of it. Even in the cases where the small batch is repeated in subsequent years, the blend components change from year to year so they’re never quite the same anyway. The fresh briar fox is surely more sharp than the aged stuff but even fresh it’s still one of my favorites. I find it to be similar to Pegasus but with a little more spice and more Virginia forward than Pegasus. Long time lurker here and I’m glad I finally commented.
I gave in and got the folk lore. It’s in a sealed bag, but will ultimately transfer it to a jar. Smells very tangy, so looking forward to the first try. Would love to see a unicorn vaper, doesn’t matter which one.
Well I finally tried Briar Fox for the first time today. My tin was a year and a half old and starting to bulge. To me the strength is medium, the taste is pure tobacco, nothing extra. Burley forward with little if any virginia taste but my pallette is not refined by any means. Nice tobacco flavor but nothing to write home about. Nic hit was there but not overwhelming. All in all a pretty good tobacco.
Good to see you my friend, great review as always. I hope the weather turns for the better and conditions improve in your region. As for C&D and I, unfortunately we don’t get along so well…. Small batch yet sold by the pound… Things that make you go hummmmm. Take care my friend and thank you for sharing this video with us.
Good morning Nish I really miss our talks on boats and such I’m hoping things go more smooth this spring hope you are doing well I’m so ready for nice weather haha
You are totally correct about the folklore. 16oz I quite ridiculous. I guess worst case you would have to sell some by the oz to your buddy’s. My vote goes for pelican as well.
Greetings Brian. I remember smoking Briar Fox several years ago. At the time it was my most frequented B&M's biggest seller! 100% agree about Folklore. They're just trying to get out from under some tobacco. I like C&D but that FOMO, panic buying baloney is for the birds. I purposely have to stay my hand when the latest small batch drops. I would love to see what you think about either Pelican or Stonehaven in your Unicorn reviews. Glad to see you're thawing out. Two steps forward, one step back. Still difficult getting around here. Thanks for the review Brian! Take care my friend.
Per the Unicorn Series. You have any old Edgeworth Slices. Or maybe Smokers Haven Exotique. I have both. Just wanted your opinion. I'd ask about Krumble Kake from Smokers Haven. But If I recall you don't care to much for Penzance either. (I don't like either). Glad you're feeling better and your house is still standing. How's the pontoon after that storm? Take care sir
Yea I'd have to agree with you on the folklore deal. I had the opportunity to buy a brick but I thought to myself the same thing..you're gunna make me buy a pound sight unseen? So I bought another pipe instead. I did harp on it for a while but I, like you, felt like the pound thing was annoying.
I forgot to mention. I'm not a C+D fan unless it's Pease Windjammer or Penny Farthing or Quiet Nights. And First Amendment which is a Druqurie and Sons. (However you spell it) And of course the Warped stuff. But C+D as a whole is very singular. I feel like limited edition tobacco's should be left to those who already have exceptional tobacco. A pound of C+D isn't something I'd get excited about.
Morning Brian, it was only yestrday that the temp got over freezing point and rain melted the ice finally over here. I passed on folklore with flying colors, it just seem like everything taste the same that its so hard to tempt me to buy something new especially now that they started adding excise tax on top of state tax! I like briar fox here and there but never a stable in my rotation. Be well and stay safe brother
I’m a pretty big fan of this blend and holy crap mine ain’t ever looked like that! 😂 I’ve always smoked mine right when I got it and the stuff you have there is much, much darker from age. I think most people underestimate how much Virginia there is in this blend. Thanks for the vid.
Nice review. I'd bet that decade of age helped it along nicely. Love to see you pop and smoke one of those Butera Pelican tins. I'm not a regular fan of lat heavy blends, but anything going for $150 a tin, I gotta see what the fuss is about!
Sounds interesting, I'll have to snag a tin. I didn't even blink at the Folklore. I think you should start is off with some Mcc Christmas Cheer for your unicorn series
Briar Fox is a great blend. My unicorn blend is still King Fisher, looking forward to your unicorn series. I wouldn't be surprised if they do a second run of that Folklore. I was able to aquire a piece of one of the Folklore bricks and I'd like to send you some to try it and see what you think.
Start with the Pelican. Never had Briar Fox but I’m not a burley fan. I do have a tin that was gifted to me by David (Burleyman40) but I think I’ll let is sit in the cellar a bit longer. Cheers buddy!
I saw an interview with Craig Tarler, and Jeremy Reeves and I believe they said this one had a bit of unflavored Black Cavendish in it, and toasted Virginia maybe? I haven’t had it in years. I tried it back years ago when I first started smoking a pipe. I think the cool tin art ropes in people haha
Yeah concerning Folklore, I’m not sure I’ll ever personally buy a pound of something I’ve never tried before, but I’m more of a budget buyer anyway…i try to wait for discounts on blends I love , or just buy a single tin to try something new that catches my interest. But I have friends who buy 10 tins at a time of all new releases so I guess it’s all relative :)
I Agree about buying a pound of tobacco that you never tried, I wasn't planning on buying, and was surprised that it would sell out so fast plus like you pointed out that they put it on sale at midnight, but apparently it worked
Folklore sure did cause a stir. For good or bad, I managed to get it. And i live in EST. Got less sleep that day. I agree that doing a 1lb small batch was a stretch. I've had a bowl and it was pretty good for me. I'm more hopeful it will age well though. Thanks for the review.
One of the first pipe tobacco’s I’ve ever tried 3 years ago, haven’t smoked any in probably 2 years but have some tins stashed away, been on a Latakia kick
Briar Fox is one of my favorites. If you try the fresh, I'd be interested to know if it's really all that worth long-term aging. I had a tin of 2-3 yrs old and I think it approved but I don't know about 10+. And yes no way was I buying a pound of something I've never tried before. Maybe a live on Saturday mornings?? Take care!
Thanks my friend yeah my cellar is large and I just basically forget I have things and always stock up when I can age does have a factor for sure but how much or how long I don’t know
My masons are always making popping sounds as the tobacco ages, it’s quite startling sometimes. On one occasion I opened up a jar of six year old bright Virginia to a huge explosion that left tobacco sprayed all over my desk and the floor. Almost scared the crap out of me. Lol
Great Video!! Never had that Blend. On the Folklore, I agree with you, the timing of the release sucks! I would not buy a pound of it , until I had smoked some prior and liked it. This small batch, sale of a pound only, "limited edition" is a scam to me. UGH!! Thanks for sharing.......Jose
I’ve tried Briar Fox. Not much of a fan. I was gifted Privateer and it molded on me. It was from 2020. Lives are difficult to do and like you said times are all taken. I’m with you on the Folklore blend
I thought the same thing about folklore 😂!!! Definitely a screwed up deal all around.. I say do some aged McClelland Virginias next.. Also lives are weird because I never know when I’m going have free time during the week 🤷♂️
For the unicorn series I think I would be most jealous to see you open a McCleland virginia. I started smoking pipes right before they went out of business and never got my hands on any. My top unicorn is a single tin of The Balkan Sobranie. I don't know if I will ever even open it. It's kind of a joke.
I’m a burley lover. Briar fox is on my radar. Thank you for your review. I have not had Briar Fox, but can you estimate the percentage of burley to Virginia? I’m always interested in any JF Germain made tobacco reviews of course. They are by far my favorite tobaccos in all categories .😎
Hey bud, random thought here at the beginning of your video. I’m sure there’s some easy tech way to do this, I could offer you a couple of simple acoustic guitar recordings for your B roll. Just because I want to. If you think that’s a lame idea then cool, I thought I’d offer anyway. By the way, I do enjoy your videos.
LOVE snow! HATE ICE! Briar fox has always intrigued me. I was not a fan of HB but.... Id say review Pelican! I was skeptical about Folklore may just be the "best of the rest" thrown together in a brick. Who knows?
open esoterica id say, i need a recorded proof that someone is actually smoking that stuff and not just shuffling bags around, selling and re-selling ,lol
I was so pissed about that folklore, not so much about missing out, because I have plenty of good baccy, But I’m fed up with the small batch gimmick bullshit altogether. It’s a blatant click bait version of baccy marketing. If you can’t keep a blend in the line then ya know what, put that quality stuff in your existing blends. Most of the crap anymore is getting worse and tobacco farming is probably going the way of the dodo bird anyway. So stop with the hipster horseshit and serve your core customers.
If I'm not sure about a blend I never buy more than one or two ounces. I'm not into the " lives " so I wouldn't be watching it. Man, you have some old tobacco in your cellar.
Open the Pelican please.......my vote !! Saturday morning might be good for a live.
Yeah I skipped that folklore too. I tend not to buy pounds but when I do it's something I know I like. I don't know what they're thinking, probably trying to get rid of it like you said
Briar Fox was a good smoke, from what I remember it has been a while!
Morning Brian,
Great things are getting better there buddy, that’s alot of ice & snow!
I passed on Folklore but then regretted it, I’ve heard it’s not that great so no biggie then, lucky escape.
I’ve just picked up one of your pipes, so looking forward to that arriving.
Look after yourselves. Ross
Was it the one I sold last weekend? Should have been there by last Wednesday? Please let me know
@@beans316 I picked it up from smoking pipes Brian, an estate pipe I couldn’t resist.
I just picked this up this morning before coming across your video. Total coincidence, great minds think alike.
Folklore is really good.
Glad you like it not for me 🤮

Thanks my friend yeah it’s hard to justify buying a pound without trying it first I’m waiting on sales for IPSD only found 15% off Pease blends so far
Good to see you Brian. Thanks for sharing. Pelican would be nice. Cheers, Janez
Ah the ever elusive unicorn blends. Surprise me. Been eyeballing briar fox for sum time r now gonna have to pull the trigger now! Good to see u as always beans!

Great vid and review Beans. Thanks a lot. Have a great week-end.
Thanks for the review. Second time through.
Mr.Beans. I was anxiously awaiting the unicorn reviews. What do you think?
I 100% agree about the folklore I’m not buying a pound of something at midnight I’ve never tried lol

One of the first pipe tobacco’s I’ve ever tried 3 years ago, haven’t smoked any in probably 2 years but have some tins stashed away, been on a Latakia kick
That being said this blend got me into pipe smoking
Thanks for the review I really like Brair Fox 🦊
Thanks Brian. Would love to actually see Pelican
It’s been a minute sense I’ve had this one. Great review. How have you been? Hopefully life is getting back under control my friend praying over you.

Spot on concerning the Folklore dump. I don't think any tobacco that isn't readily available is worth my time.
Great Video!! Never had that Blend. On the Folklore, I agree with you, the timing of the release sucks! I would not buy a pound of it , until I had smoked some prior and liked it. This small batch, sale of a pound only, "limited edition" is a scam to me. UGH!!

Would love to hear about Pelican👍
I ended up picking some up, almost 3 yrs old!

Never cared for the briar fox. Too much burley in it for me. I agree with you about the folklore. I stopped buying the small batch stuff.
For the unicorn series I think I would be most jealous to see you open a McCleland virginia. I started smoking pipes right before they went out of business and never got my hands on any. I’m always interested in any JF Germain made tobacco reviews of course. They are by far my favorite tobaccos in all categories .😎
I would say definitely more Va than burley but it’s hard to say with the baccy having a lot of age I think the Va pops more with the age
Good video sir! 👍 Do they still make those blends, or are they discontinued?
Yes my friend they still make it
Very good ill have to give it a try!👍
