  • Is it safe to swim with Stingrays?
It's important to say that these stingrays are wild. They are free to roam to swim to come and go as they please. As the boats arrived so did the rays, when the boats left the rays left.
Join us on our P&O Caribbean Shore Excursion to Stingray City off the Caribbean island of Antigua. On our recent 14 night cruise on Britannia we head out slightly apprehensive but very excited with 70 passengers on a day trip to Stingray City. At around $90 per person it's not cheap but an experience we didn't want to miss. With free rum punch to soften the blow check out the stunning rays swimming free around us in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Hi, we're due to do this experience in a few weeks time & I'm a bit apprehensive, not because I'm scared of the stingrays but more concerned that there appears to be alot of unnessary handling of them by the guides. Did you at any point feel that the fish wanted to swim away but were forced to stay for photos etc?

Hi carlalee, we really enjoyed our stingray excursion. We are no experts but the rays did come to the guides rather than being sort out. The sandbank is totally natural with no pens or nets so they are free to come and go. Obviously they come there as they are fed and its an easy source of food. The boats are licensed. Clearly though its not natural for the rays to be handled for photos so we do agree with your concerns this should be limited.

Is there a chance to hit the restrooms and change before the boat ride once you get there?

Perfectly safe as long as you don't stand on them, that is why you have to shuffle your feet in the sand whilst walking.

Yes we did a lot of shuffling 😃
