Awesome video! Interestingly, I noticed that my peers who developed their shoulder strength experienced significant smashing gains too! And this supports your theory ;)
Been a badminton enthusiast for a long time and appreciate the effort that went into this video. I too once greatly enjoyed the Lin Dan vs. Bao Chunlai video because it was one of the earlier glimpses at the MS GOAT playing in a chill, non-stadium setting, and getting to see his technique from a close up, friendly angle. Keep up the good work, jixunuli!
Please keep making videos a lot more regularly, since i just stumbled across your channel today, i really enjoyed all of the videosyou made. Your videos especially on badminton analysis will definitely help lots of people who want to improve their game. Keep it up 😃👍
Finally someone pointed it out! The angle of smashes going downward is due to the contact point! I thought I was losing my mind because no one really ever brought it up before but I always see slo-mo shots of matches where they have the shuttle about 1 ft away from their body as they smash
Nice ! I played one year in Shanghai and started to play badminton in 1995. As a learner of mandarin, it's a nice video to increase my chinese with the sport i like the most. Thanks :)
Damn.... Really good instructions. Its hard to understand when the pros try to explain it to you b/c they are pros and have great form. I like the perspective from a badminton fan who wants to get better b/c I have the same issues....
I’m definitely trying to share insights that I’m learning as I try to improve :) some things like the concept of generating power by hitting upward and forward... seem pretty obvious once you know it but it’s hard to realize and figure out on my own. Thanks for watching!
Hi Jeff, It's an excellent idea to summarize your training process and make them into videos. Your videos always inspire me a lot because my situation is pretty similar to yours. 加油!
Thanks a lot! Honestly i think this gives u more power also as u are contacting the shuttle halfway into the swing rather than hitting the shuttle at the start of ur swing and bringing it down
Hi Jeff A big fan of your work and content. Can you please make a video explaining what your coach said about pronation and how to rotate the wrist at the highest point?
I know this is a bit old now but I have some food for thought and a tip for you while moving forwards into your badminton evolution. First of all, I actually think it's better when the feeding isn't perfect. You will rarely get a perfect lift in a match and the need to re-adjust to reach the shuttle is a key part of back-court technique training. And ofcourse you don't want super short lifts, lifts that's wide or long. But being anywhere within 1m of the corner allows for the chance of producing good quality shoots, while still forcing you to adjust your positioning and aim slightly. And by the looks of it, you rely a bit too much on your shoulder/upper arm while performing shots. Just remember to not neglect the wrist and try to always be using it to steer/accelerate/control your shots. I'd recommend that you relax your generall grip hold aswell. You seem a bit stiff, and being stiff takes away some touch aswell as having that extra edge/snap on your hard shots. Many people get stuck on "To hit powerfull smashes I must use all muscles and all power I have" But it's more about timing, technique, rotation and the snap from the wrist. Being relaxed also gives the ability to hit really fast drives from out of nowhere. You start a swing, almost like a block/drop and at the end you tense up, accelerate and snap with your wrist. It will give you some extra punch and deception. Works like a charm for backhand drives like the one you did at 7:45. Nice video, will definitely check out all your other content!
Thank you for your videos. Love the explanation. There is a lack of good badminton videos (in english) explaining advanced techniques and your videos definately address that.
Just found your series and love the simplicity you explain the techniques with! Also the humility too! Any advise for specifically left handed players?
This really is one of the very best badminton content on RUclips, the thing is, its easily relatable and that's what makes it great. Not so easy when you see the world's best executing shots, its like watching chess grand-masters make moves, you are just like, wait what. I'd love to go to China to attend training camps too, how do you arrange these?
@@BadmintonwithJeffrey Well, if you are ever arranging another training, I'd love to go! I applied what you went through in the video today of setting up a bottle for aiming practice and also to keep on my toes like Lin Dan, it really helped! Looking forward to your next series!
You must hit the the bird before it start to drop down , it give you bonus power to it You see the pro player smashes , they all jump really high before the bird start to drop , and just like your coach said , hit the bird on the highest point you can
Thank you for the video, it has given me a new perspective in how to optimise my smash. one question, 4:48, is that stroke your coach is teaching for smashes or for cut smash or drop. because I'm stuck, trying to figure this out. after your elbow is pointing towards the ceiling, then your forearm would reach up towards the shuttle, then you rotate your forearm, is the wrist in neutral all the way through? also do you pronate your shoulder. Thank you
This is what coaches should look like. Completely changing your basics so you start doing the right thing. The power comes from upwards... Woah.... I was wondering how much were the coaching sessions in China? Per hour. I swear a coach like this in Singapore would cost about $100 -$200 an hour, and not even that good.
May I ask where in Beijing is this? It looks like one of the best venues I have ever seen in Beijing :) Would love to go there myself next time and have a hit!
Hey ! Can you please explain what you mean that by "deep smash" on 5.39 ? Half smash is clear, but I'm not sure what you mean by "deep smash". Is it a power smash that is aimed at the back of an opponent's court ?
Hi Jeff, can you make video about how to return using backhand from far back from our side to cross backward to opponent side (the longest and the highest possible)? thx in advance
Hi Admin, I have one qustion if someone hit smashe but did not touch the shuttle can he hit the shuttle coming down..will it be a foul or treat as deception?
Just Subscribed, you're amazing! Everytime I play badminton, I find I overstretch my back when the opponent does a clear. Do you have a video on how to get positioned better when running to the back? I love badminton but as bad as it sounds, I get back pain from doing this poorly Thanks
It's honestly just moving backwards, maybe involves footwork or just needing to go back faster but if it were to be a corner, oddly enough would be my forehand, it's fairly weak after a few game or two Thanks
@@markwalsh1957 Hmm there could be a thousand different reasons why. Email me a youtube recording of your game and it'll be way easier for me to give you relevant help :)
According to my own understanding, when your elbow is brought up above your forearm/wrist, there is way more range of movement in pronating your forearm as you go through the motion, which is where power comes from.
In layman’s terms the higher your elbow is, the higher your initial contact point will be. Just imagine yourself raising your arm up at different angle, you’d able to reach different height for each different angle.
Hi... what do you do after each day training smash? i mean , your hand's muscles definitely will sour and pain. So, how can you get to recovered in a short time and continue for next day training?

A big fan of your work and content.
Can you please make a video explaining what your coach said about pronation and how to rotate the wrist at the highest point?
Jyot Kamra wrist is only to adjust the racket face angle, to direct the shuttle. Not actually for the smash power

They call the smash a “KILLSHOT” in china
haha true my friend, literally "kill shot"
跳杀不转身会减少杀球威胁度,可以以后在跳杀的时候加上转身
不一定要转身,他练的主要是单打方式。单打选手需要使用上点杀,劈杀和软杀。把握好这种突然性的进攻才能创造跟好的机会得分
