That’s a very nice video that will help new guinea pig owners with many misconceptions. No body told me at the store that hay is their main source of food. Therefore I made some research about their diet.
Like Saskia said: Moderation is the key with the veggies especially with the fruits.

My pigs love the small pet select pea flakes! I love that they’re not crumbly makes it easier to give them one as a whole treat ☺️

Watch the calcium level of the veg that you are feeding. The proportion of calcium to potassium is important to avoid bladder stones. Spinach and kale have a lot of calcium ans should be fed only sparingly.

I can vouch for small pet select pea flakes, tried and couple of other brands but they were having none of it 😂

I really don't understand why I would feed my pigs corn. It's high in sugar, and starchy veggies aren't good for them. There are more than enough natural sugars in the veggies they already get (perhaps a small amount of kernels on occasion would be okay, and husks would be fine.) Cabbage relatives like romaine have higher calcium contents which can effect urinary health, and have been known to cause bloating. I would not feed my pigs as many pellets as they want. The point of pellets is to supplement their diet. Pellets contains vitamins that are necessary, but also contain additives (for processing, preservation, and binding,) both of which can be overfed. Also, spreading your pigs pellets and foods around the cage helps with boredom and encourages foraging.

Many foods they can both eat but no, guinea pigs have different nutritional needs than rabbits. You can shop by guinea pigs in our store to ensure you get the right goodies! Best wishes! 💚

I tried getting SPS hay numerous times , different cuts, types but my piggies don’t like it and I have 7 pigs
Last batch of oat hay was just yellow straw , the whole box
I know people rave about SPS but I don’t see the quality and price is pretty high
Anyone else has the same impression?

I started using SPS 2nd and 3rd cut Timothy hay several years ago because my guinea pigs loved both and while it was more expensive, I wasn’t throwing out a lot of the hay like I had been with the other brands, so I felt it justified the higher cost. I agree with you about the oat hay. I bought their oat hay recently but it was VERY straw-like and my piggy would not touch it.

@@chrismcgaughey8599 I don’t mind spending more but my piggies don’t like 1st, 2d or 3d cut of their hay
Third cut was getting kind of mushed down in a couple of hours
Also some boxes of their Timothy hay were way too stalky or brown despite of the cut, not much of a seed heads either
