I just want to say for the people in the comments section expressing their opinions about women going to Ranger school/serving in Ranger Regiment, most of what you are reading here is misguided, if not patently false. I graduated Ranger School, have competed in the Best Ranger Competition, and serve as an Infantryman in the 75th Ranger Regiment. I'm not an authority on the matter, but I've done the Ranger thing, so I feel I can speak about it, unlike most of the people here. The majority of women who attend Ranger school fail. The majority of these women, who are already the top 0.01% of the population, cannot hack it. That said, those few women who manage to pass Ranger school do so legitimately. Those that pass can kick the ass of 95% of 11B's in the Army physically. They will outruck you with a heavier load. I've seen it. They're absolute freak shows. When the first women went through Ranger School there were a ton of politics. General officers pushed for them to pass. RI's did everything in their power to make them fail. It was a fuckshow. That has all gone away now. After the first few passed, everyone stopped giving a shit, and things went back to normal. And you know what? Women continue to pass Ranger School, without any outside influence to shepherd them through. RASP instructors also did everything in their power to fail the first few female Ranger candidates. These women had no outside help to get them through. Nobody was pushing for women in the Ranger Regiment. The first few graduated recently, and are set to or will report to their Ranger Battalions. You can absolutely argue that women in combat arms is a social experiment, or that they bring very little of value versus the absolute asspain required to integrate them. I think such arguments are valid. That said, if anyone tells you that women have not passed the very same standards as men to reach those positions, they are full of shit. The women in the Rangers (and the ones in the SF Q course now) are extreme specimens, absolutely not "normal" women in their physical capabilities, and I'd take them over the vast majority of the lazy, self-righteous 11B's I've worked with in the conventional Army.
@Jaime D when's the last time conventional Marines deployed for combat? Glad to have you elite warriors out patrolling the high seas and building rapport with the Japanese. Marines are as much hype as substance these days.
@Jaime D talks shit about 11Bs and Rangers because he thinks being a Marine makes him cool. Being an "X" doesn't make you cool dude. It's what you do that matters. There's an organization out there getting after it every day overseas, and it's not the Marines. Plenty of other organizations got passed over in favor of Regiment because Rangers have a culture of accountability, standards, and getting results. Calling out Regiment for showboating is hilarious, especially coming from a Marine. Regiment has been quietly and professionally at war for the past 20 years producing results with very little drama. I've got no problem with Marines, provided they aren't bought into the narrative that Marines are somehow superior to Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen, but most seem to think that way.
