For a couple hundred, have you thought of a xylophone? It's wooden, I've heard them and people play double mallet; sounds great; takes less space, too.
@@c_farther5208 Xylo's are a little small they typically only come in like 2.6 maybe 3 octaves. I just got a marimaba a couple Weekes ago for a cheap price. The website I got it on was called Steve Weiss music
I can't remember exactly, but I believe this was either my first or one of my first four mallet solos. I was in 7th grade at the time, that would've been about 7 years ago. This video brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia about how much fun I had playing marimba.
When I was in high school, i played this to empress everyone. At the time, we all learned with 2 mallets. Holding 3, 4, or even 6 was a flex in itself, nevermind what youre playing. This is my go to song to play in any band hall.
I have been dying to hear a quality recording and playing of this since I heard it years back in high school, I could not be happier to finally see one pop up, and SO beautifully played no less! thank you so much to Vic Firth and Garrett Arney for making this!!
I played this solo and got superior and now today I have to play at state for solo and ensemble. This solo is a great choice for a first 4 mallet solo, but keep in mind that it isn't very simple. It is very challenging with some rythyms and dynamics and stuff, but once you get that down this song will become so fun to play. I totally reccomend this!
I've been learning this piece for like an hour now, and I realized it is way easier to learn than yellow after the rain. And rain dance still has a lot of different techniques in it for judges to watch.
Learning this for my solo this year. I’ve been auxiliary for my band for the past 2 years and I had some experience on the marimba. I’m not necessarily new to the 4 mallet pieces but I’m still learning. I have about 40% of this song complete for solo and ensemble. Deadline is in 2 weeks from now. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to memorize this but I’m trying to the best of my ability.
Haven't touched a marimba in about 1 year since I moved... learnt this piece 2 years ago, never mastered the phrasing, but this piece was a blast to play
I'm playing this this year as an 8th grader in my school's solo contest this weekend, hopefully that goes well. This guy can definitely play it faster than I can
this piece reminds me of a friend from high school who played this as an i&e for last years indoor season. he graduated this year but he was one damn good marimba player
I love this piece. I'd like to take this next year, having recently finished up Yellow After the Rain, but my director wants me to take Concerto for Marimba, by Paul Creston. It does seem like a wonderful piece, too, so I might just take it.
We’ll come on all you Marimba players. Time to bring the most beautiful instrument in the world to mainstream again? TheBaja Marimba Band was jazz musicians who decided pop is best for seeing a large audience. Bring back a light Latin sound, perhaps with different instruments but as marimba as the main centerpiece.
I'm probably going to play this for contest, it seems easier than my all-state stuff I did this year but it'll be something I can play clean for once since it'll be my second 4-mallet solo, and let's just say my first one was pretty difficult for my skill, so I definitely struggled
Amazing performance! For folks learning this piece, I believe the 2nd bar of the 6/8 has a misprint... Should be F&A in the right hand rather than the printed D&F... I could be wrong, but usually the first three bars of the melody are repeated, and this would be an unusual exception if intended.
@@krystinbp27 I played this when I was still in the womb while every single living thing in the observable universe and beyond was watching me but good for you I guess.
jenna haynes yolo, do it. It's good for the experience and if you already know how to play 4 mallets then it's always good to push your self. hopefully by the time you read this you haven't chosen a song yet haha
MiiPuns This song is not "too easy." The grips and changes in this song are very difficult. If you can play this perfectly and at tempo will all of the correct dynamics and rolls, then you had to practice extremely hard. My friend just got a 1 at districts on this piece because she worked at it every day for a long time. This is NOT easy. I'd like to see you play it.
Yeah and it would be great if you could add all new videos to your marimba library playlist. Makes it easier for those who are just interested in marimba music not in percussion in general.
If I won the lottery the first thing I would purchase is Marimba
That’s so smart😂 these things pretty much perfectly retain their value

Me too
Played this solo my sophomore year of HS. My first four-mallet that kicked off my passion.
Nice, I'm trying to do this as a freshman. My second 4 mallet solo so far.
that.kid. apple What was your first?
Augusta Confidential "A cricket sang and set the sun" by Blake Tyson
that.kid. apple I love that one. I really should play it next year.
Augusta Confidential Try it this year, I started learning it in December and I had enough time for solo and ensemble (I got a 1)
I miss playing marimba so much. I remember when i first found this song and declared id learn it... and I did. That was roughly 4 yrs ago.

That is a beautiful marimba. I'm imagine it would cost an arm and a leg, meaning I could no longer play it. Shame.
I'd*
Maybe if you paid two legs you could get a stool and still be ok
Lil Glove true
Lil Glove but then he can't play a vibraphone or a drum set completely

I have a senior recital in 3 weeks where I solo play this piece for my performing arts diploma in high school. Wish me luck
@Landon Rost Great! This diploma is an awesome accolade to get into 4 years!
This piece is amazing! This was the third 4 mallet solo I've ever learned, and I plan on using it to audition for the high school I wanna get into

RUclips IS BACK AND I FINALLY GET TO LISTEN TO THIS AGAIN
Well played by the chef
I love how this insinuates that the music is the food, which isn’t totally wrong since the flavor is 💯
Beautiful song!
Vic firth, can you make Gitano for marimba by Alice Gomez?
I'd like to see this as well.
I would like to see Gitano as well. Lots of performances on RUclips, but would be great to have a really high quality recording.
This is actually a beautiful piece if performed this well.

my first 4 mallet was ghost garden by adam hopper. it’s really pretty and builds up the chops as well
