Remember when Kurt stopped in the middle of a concert to stop a sexual assault? And then the rest of the band members laughed at the dude who did it and made HIM feel uncomfortable? I do. A beautiful musician, gone too soon.
@@hwfq34fajw9foiffawdiufhuaiwfhw i assume you were ironic, so, no, people who consider themselves "normal" usually don't do this. They're more like, standing by and either looking away or waiting for someone else to act. Excellent . I still can remember listening to Nirvana with a boyfriend when I was in my teens. He was this homophobic Hockey player who loved Queen and Nirvana. I remember that I explained the meaning behind many of Nirvanas song were opposite to what he believed. He actually became more accepting and open towards others after that...
@Charlie Cross my grandad was a homophobe who loved Queen 🙈 I'm happy he bought me up on Queen but would confuse me when he would make jokes about Freddie being gay.
@Shaggy Rodgers well, considering the perspective from most of the song, and interviews he's had about it, it's probably from the perspective of the victim
There was also that one time they had a concert in some latin-american country. They had an all-girl band as their opening act, and they got boo-ed of stage. Kurt was pissed at the crowd after that, so they played the first chords to "Smells like Teen Spirit" and just stopped to tease them several times, then just played songs nobody wanted to hear until they ended the concert early. There's footage of it here on youtube, it's pretty funny.
@@janetreid4515 Knowing the machismo of rock music it's not a stretch to assume that the all women rock band was booed on the sole basis that they were an all women band.
The same people who listen to Nirvana/RATM and are homophobic/sexist are the same people who don't realise they're the ones being criticized in movies like the matrix and fight club. It's so bizzare how so many people are just blatantly ignorant like that.
I think this very channel talks about it in a video about RATM, but to a certain extent, these people sympathize with the way the message is presented. Nirvana, just like RATM, has an anger and irreverence that feel justified and purposeful, and that moves much faster than the lyrics do. You can listen to one of their songs and get the feeling that the music carries, even if the don't understand the lyrics (be it ignorance or in some cases never having even read or heard them properly). It feels absolutely like shit, but sometimes people will just get the anger and not get how to direct it at the systems that the band is desperately signaling at with their lyrics.
@Yaldabub fight club is about the idiocy of traditional masculinity. The author said he wrote it to piss certain people off. American Psycho is about a serial killer, and is a criticism of capitalism. The matrix is about philosophy and being transgender. Please take a media literacy class. I also recommend getting therapy if you think American Psycho is relatable.
@Yaldabub then you missed the point of FC and AP. FC in particular is aggressively making fun of people who choose all these ways to deal with their problems - they are destructive, explosive and violent, and they don't address their problems in a way that could even change anything, they just want to destroy for the sake of it. It's anti-social. It's stupid.
I thought the Suffragettes weren't feminist...? You're really inconsistent regarding your claims about them, considering what you've said in other threads. And yes, the Suffragettes were quite racist, like most white people at the time. This is why later on 2nd and 3rd wave feminism moved to rectify this, except your allies all hold the position of "Early feminism was better!"
People who don’t think Nirvana was a feminist band clearly didn’t listen to Territorial Pissings. And are the exact people he was singing about in In Bloom.

Kurt was ahead of his time. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands. I really didn’t think of them as feminists until I really dove in to Kurt’s life and Nirvana’s music. He is a sweetheart.
When Nirvana came to Argentina in 1992, they brought with them a band made entirely with girls called Calamity Jane. The public in the concert treated the girls like shit and Kurt was so mad about this that he wanted to cancel the full show. Finally his partners convinced him to play but he refused to sing "Smell like teen spirit" as an answer to the audience attitude.
The would probably have treated any band not known to them as shit regardless of their gender. That's what happens normally in big ass concert when the opening act isn't well known and doesn't connect with the public.
Cobain + Nirvana have a weird relation with South Americans. The first incident I heard was how he walked past a child shooting up on heroin in the street. Openly just sitting there on the sidewalk and the kid looked up at him and smiled saying "Hey, Kurt Cobain, Nirvana ! ! ! You guys rock" or something close to that. It was a heck of a blow for him because he was also starting to use himself but I don't think he saw his own habit as being a way of condoning it for others. Today I've got a couple of Brazilian friends on Facebook. They often share Kurt Cobain meme's a lot which is weird because the context of the ones I have translated promotes an oddly skewed perception of Nirvana. They have a very right wing leaning ideology and yet they seem to LOVE NIRVANA. Am I correct for the majority or do you think I probably just have some weird ass facebook friends ? ? ?
Guns N’ Roses is one of, if not my favorite band, but I don’t look up to them as people at all. The members of nirvana especially Kurt understood stuff that many people don’t get today, and that is something that you can’t say for GNR.
Kurt was not ahead of his time at all. He was in the perfect time. Had he been from another time period, they wouldn’t make it. No one cared about grunge until 1992, when Smells Like Teen Spirit.
This might help some people to understand that Cobain was not just a "troubled kid", but a commited man who was fighting and resisting in such a variety of fronts (education, youth emancipation, mercenary media, feminism, etc).
He was so committed that he blew his head off and left his daughter without her father. Oh, but feminists say you don't need a father anyways so no biggie.

true feminists totally support the issues men face too and they definitely don't think women are perfect and men are bad. feminists just want equality and respect for women, but also both genders. the radical, "feminazis" that make a bad name ruin it for almost all of the feminists out there.
such a good synthesis for people not familiarized with nirvana, their music, and the message they were trying to convey to the world. This is a great video to show to any person who thinks Nirvana was just another "angry garage band" of the 90s.
Thanks for this. I was a huge Nirvana fan back in the day, but I was so young that most of these messages pretty much flew over my head, and in the intervening years I never quite took the time to go back and hear them. It's not a stretch to learn that, coming out of the scene they did, they would share such views, but it certainly seems true that, for whatever reason, their legacy in popular culture hasn't included their passion for social justice and their role in bringing that discussion into the music mainstream.
I came down here to comment exactly what you just said. I'm 37 years old and was a huge fan of Nirvana as a teen in the 90s, but these messages completely flew over my head as well. I'm a feminist and am blown away I never caught any of this. You're also dead-on that unfortunately their passion for social justice isn't remembered when thinking of their legacy. Cheers to Polyphonic for making this video. ♥
"Intelligent opponents" So people who defend rape? Don't think that would've helped him out man. The insight you're supposed to glean is literally spelled out for you in the video, that shit happens way too often and mostly by the people women are closest too, really not that hard to comprehend.
Yep. This totally flew over my head as I was a teenager listening mostly to Nirvana. Now Im a 36 year old guy, and the line that stays with me is "teenage angst has paid off well, now Im bored and old". :D
Thats what good songwriters do. They write lyrics in a sarcastic tone or a sort of cryptic way, they know some people will get it and the morons will take it literally. I was also too young to understand it all back Nirvana's heyday though.

Kurt almost killed himself in Rome when he thought Courtney would cheat on him. Courtney herself admits that she thought about it. I believe his beliefs contributed to his misery. I believe he killed himself because he felt like he was weak and was depressed how he could be a millionaire but his baby mama would still think about cheating.

Honestly I forgot how much Nirvana's music helped me . They've always been one of my favorite bands but as someone who has dealt with sexual assault listening to them really helped me in a time when I was down. I loved that Kurt aligned himself with topics that are still controversial today.
You should definitely listen to Hole too. Courtney Love is a great feminist song writer that really captures the female experience in terms of sexual oppression, beauty standards etc. Her lyrics are very dark though, sometimes to the point of triggering. But still, it's great how she channels pure female rage. Live through this is a great album, Pretty in the inside too if you like a more grungy, dark punk sound
the more I'm learning about this guy, my respect for him is increasing manifold. His thoughts, lyrics and words are relatable entirely today. We need guys like him, man.
just like punk rock was a response to prog rock, grunge was a response to all that glam metal shit that was a thing in early 90's; both with music and philosophy. great video, man. nirvana was such an important band to me as a teenager of the 90's. it's great to see that people still listen to their music and talk about their lyrics. cheers
you forgot to add this as one big one. On October 30th, 1992, Nirvana were booked to play a major show in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were so big at that point in time that they just about sold-out José Amalfitani Stadium, which can hold nearly fifty thousand people. Prior to their set, Kurt Cobain witnessed the negative reception their hand picked opening act received, and was so incensed that he considered canceling the gig. Nirvana ultimately did perform that night, but they were sloppy and their set-list was more than a little unusual, as they purposely incorporated rare songs from their catalogue that they knew most of the audience wouldn’t be familiar with, including a couple of unreleased numbers. It ended up being one of their oddest shows, and it was all captured on videotape by a professional film crew.“When we played Buenos Aires, we brought this all-girl band over from Portland called Calamity Jane,” Kurt recalled. “During their entire set, the whole audience-it was a huge show with like sixty thousand people-was throwing money and everything out of their pockets, mud and rocks, just pelting them. Eventually the girls stormed off crying. It was terrible, one of the worst things I’ve ever seen, such a mass of sexism all at once. Krist, knowing my attitude about things like that, tried to talk me out of at least setting myself on fire or refusing to play. We ended up having fun, laughing at them (the audience). Before every song, I’d play the intro to ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and then stop. They didn’t realize that we were protesting against what they’d done. We played for about forty minutes, and most of the songs were off Incesticide, so they didn’t recognize anything. We wound up playing the secret noise song (‘Endless, Nameless’) that’s at the end of Nevermind, and because we were so in a rage and were just so pissed off about this whole situation, that song and whole set were one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.” (from Nirvana: The Chosen Rejects)
When I was young-(boy)-er, there was this guy who would sexually harass me without me knowing what harassment was. Obviously, he took advantage of my innocence since I was four at the time. He did this every time I visited his home because my mom was best friends with his mom and dad. Then there was this year when my mom told me about rape, I was eight at the time then we went to his home for a Christmas party and he lifted me up to the mirror and put his hand up my skirt and into my underwear. I knew something was wrong, my mom told me about it, and I managed to get out before it got worse, and I convinced him to let me go. When it came to the part where you talked about Polly and its story, I began crying. I was eight years old when it happened and when you said "Can you imagine how much strength that took?" I remembered what my mom said to me when I told her about it.
One of my friends was raped at a really young age too, the rapist was either a relative or a very close friend of the family. He was caught in the act by some family members, and the family forgave him after he apologized. I don't know if he was prosecuted for it, but he absolutely should be. My friend was traumatized, and their family did nothing to protect them. All they did was tell the rapist that what they did was wrong, instead of making them talk to a therapist.
Truth. One issue I had with Christopher Cross' Cobain bio was how the author glossed over the grunge musician's feminist politics, and his involvement with riot grrl punks, his love of the Breeders, and advocating for Patty Schemel as a replacement drummer for Hole. Like somehow those things didn't correlate to his affection for his mother, sister, daughter, and Courtney Love. Or even the fact that the R&R HoF performances by Nirvana were all headed by women--a fact Cobain probably would've loved. I feel like the person who's really upholding the feminist legacy for Cobain and Nirvana is Krist Novoselic--or the dude who was in Nirvana with him for the longest amount of time, and the one who still has a serious pulse on the PNW punk scene. Not that anyone else associated with Nirvana is terrible, but Novoselic has done some pretty amazing things to ensure Nirvana's legacy remains entangled with the parallel riot grrl scene.
When I turned 14, an uncle of mine gave me 2 CDs. Nirvana's Nerermind and Pearl Jam's Ten. Yeah, Pearl Jam rocked and still does, but Nirvana just blew me away. It opened my musical world to punk and old indie bands and just felt like something that got me at the time. I have all their albums, Books and DVd and they are still my favorite band of all time. I knew they had songs that explored women's issues, but I never really stopped to think how it was such a big part of their music. Cheers for the video.
I remember listening to Nirvana as a kid and getting frustrated because I knew I liked it but didn't know why. I felt like I could almost -- but not quite -- understand it. In retrospect, I can say they absolutely got me thinking. Not so much about feminism (dyed-in-the-wool feminist from birth, intersectional before it became trendy, never ashamed to say it, so no awakening needed there) but about what I expected from the music I listened to. I mean, I still loved the 80s pop/rock/metal that shaped my early childhood, but I know I thought a lot more critically about music and its messages after Nirvana happened. I feel privileged to have seen them in their prime.
That’s one of the reasons I liked the “Seattle” bands because they were openly feminist and felt like a corrective towards the sexism endemic in a lot of rock.
I was born right after the peak of Seattle rock, but I ended up having a really similar experience because my parents were really young and that was the music they were listening to when I was growing up. Their tastes eventually evolved away from old alt rock, but when I got older and started exploring my own music tastes, Nirvana, The Gits, and 7 Year Bitch ended up being the ones I came back to. There's a kind of anger in them that speaks to pains that just don't get talked about in popular music, and a willingness to cry about things that seem small and petty, because when the pain is too big to understand, it's the little itches and bugs that break you, and that doesn't mean you're shallow, that's just how it is. Weirdly, all three of these bands had a member die within like a year of each other. Not sure what that says about... well, anything. :/
Francois Dillinger, feminists from the 80s were actually feminists. ‘Feminists’ From nowadays aren’t feminists, they are dick-heads who think women are superior to men.
He'd probably be more hardcore about it since as you can see the internet has brought out the scum and made them believe they matter. Since horrible people are always the loudest people like him would fight it harder. In the era of trump and kavanaugh, every good soul knows we need to fight harder. It's terrible that he didn't prioritize his health. It was a loss.
A Nirvana video! Heck Yeah! Cobain has literally been quoted as saying he wish he was gay, just so he could piss off homophobes." I always thought that was so cool, especially since Nirvana was the FIRST band I ever fell in love with as a confused bisexual teenager. Hearing that helped me come to terms with myself. I'll respect Kurt forever for that. He never forgot what it was like to "be different."
He wish he was gay so he wouldn't have to date someone who physically abused him in public and was hailed a feminist hero. Of course he never put in those words, but courtney love took the message. He put that in this way because feminism was never about equality and he never had a chance to complain.
Yep. I became a fan of the music as a child, but as an adult after reading books, watching interviews, quotes, etc. I also became a fan of Kurt as a person. He was a self admitted feminist, anyone doubting that should read or watch some of Kurt's interviews. He even played at Rock for Choice (pro choice benefit). He was against homophobia, racism, sexism, a lot of the issues important to so many today. Considering the amount of macho posturing bands did back in the 80s and 90s, I think it's awesome that Nirvana were so openly against that shit.
People are going to try to say “Oh well Feminism is different now” The same argument against the current wave of feminism has been the same argument FOR DECADES now. Just because people shape these arguments to be new doesn’t mean they are.
Yes, feminism, was never about gender equality (and I'm serious) that's why curtney is hailed as a feminist hero as well s kurt, even though she was frequently publicly abusive towards him and that she's recorded being sexually abusive towards people to this day.
I’m a firm believer in equal rights and treating not just women but everyone with respect. That’s my problem with the very extreme form that has transformed an idea of equality to an idea of superiority. In my opinion it tarnishes and disrespects the hard work done by people like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton, and Lucretia Mott. I dunno I just think we should be kinder and more respectful of others. It’s something I’ve been working on myself and I have to say it’s so much nicer
Mcfly Murderface no but those are rooted in fear, and fear is rooted in misunderstanding. The best we as people can do is help each other become more educated and stop reducing groups of people’s people into a single charicature
To all the stereotypical straight men in the comments : feminism --> women = men, NOT women > men. Therefore, Nirvana was a VERY blatantly feminist band. Now if you're not okay with that, you go against everything Kurt Cobain stood for, so maybe stop listening to his music and go find another random male artist who enjoys degrading women (trust me, there's a lot).

@@SonicJaneStooge Feminism is for men and women. That means yes, all the things you listed there are a part of feminist goals. It means fighting for equality, also in these (few) aspects where men are disadvantaged. You might not experience it (or just won't admit it) but men are suffering from toxic masculinity too. Now, the phenomenon of this toxicity explains why some men opress women, but it's not excusing it. "Hating men" directly translates to hating patriarchy. Feminism is not hypocritical. But some men are very pressed about being confronted with the flaws of their own perspective, where sexism doesn't play a role.

I do agree with you on the shaming though, that should never be okay or a part of feminism. The point of you, that feminism was only for women is also not true. My body my choice applies to us too" Feminists: "we're busy right now. call back later lol." Same with politics. Tons of feminists protested Trump for saying "grab em by the pussy". When Obama was deporting over 3 million people and bombing 6 middle eastern countries where was the protest? Again so much hypocrisy. Only talk about toxic masculinity NEVER talk about toxic femininity. Seom even deny it exists LOL. Hence why being a humanist > feminist.
Actually, legally, no they can't. Rape is the act of inserting a penis into an orifice without consent. Women can sexually assault, which is virtually the same crime, but they can't rape (bullshit I know). I think the focus is on women because they make up almost all sexual assault victims and are far more likely to be sexually assaulted than a male. Although yes I agree, men can be sexually assaulted to, and it is very hard for a man to come forward and report this. A more general approcah the subject would be great
Because that's so stunning and brave to take that position. I'd be very careful with people that overcompensate this hard. Not for nothing that a lot of male feminists are sexual assaulters or rapists.

But I'm so glad they weren't afraid to speak out, and just be a booming voice among the crowd someone that they couldn't ignore.
Thank u4 making this video. Kurt was so upset when the exact abusive men who he talked about started listening to his music & singing along. The song "In Bloom" was a song written about those men. The inside joke was meant to show how they sang along, not knowing that what they were singing about went against everything they were. Kurt's songwriting & strength in his beliefs should be taught in music classes everywhere.

Great video man. It's great to see someone focusing on these issues that were so important to Kurt. This was super interesting. I’ve never been much of a Nirvana fan and you’re completely right that it gets swept under the rug. I had no idea Cobain felt so strongly about these issues, absolutely radical.
Well, it did make me feel disappointed as it showed (beautifully, btw, nothing against the video itself) Cobain truly did believe in what's now become a big pillar of modern feminism (which I heavily dislike even as a left-leaning person).

This is why I love Nirvana so much! Kurt Cobain was too smart & sensitive for a world like ours. His views were so ahead of his time & everything he said still holds true today. Sad that he had to take his own life!

A lot of Cobain's work is still applicable today, if not moreso with the advent of social media. I'm sure if he was still alive now, he'd be disappointed with how many people fit the bill of the person he's singing about in "In Bloom".
Nirvana changed the world for the better, throwing out misogyny and fascism from the mainstream. Anyone in the comments claiming feminism is cancer have a twisted idea of feminism, feminism is equality for men and women, ridding of oppression and misogyny.
ive been a big fan of nirvana and only recently found out about bikini kill (oddly enough), and it JUST clicked that tobi vail is THE tobi vail from bikini kill
"he also said sell the kids for food" and "It's okay to eat fish 'Cause they don't have any feelings" not every song lyric was meant to be taking as a literal personal opinion you fucking weapon
Ah, the 90's. Back when you could just be a feminist without a bunch of people telling you how wrong you are. Just look at the responses to this comment. Lol. I must admit I didn't know this. I guess I was one of the ones who liked all their pretty songs and liked to sing along, but I didn't know what it means.
Maybe I should take this opportunity to point out that there definitely is a more extreme feminist presence that a lot of people think of when you say "feminist" that I don't wish to identify with. It's all very complicated. I guess the easiest way to say it is that I admire Christina Hoff Sommers. aka The Factual Feminist. And I tend to agree with the things I've heard Cobain say on the subject.
So what you're saying is that it's like an agenda or like a conspiracy to get more feminism into the public? This is where all the RUclips anti sjw's and I part ways. I tend to agree with a lot of what they have to say but I don't think there's this vast conspiracy to pussyfy the world or whatever.
@ that's not 'today's feminism', it's performative feminism. There are still may organizations that are actually trying to tackle the bigger issues like rape, feminzide, the fact that in many countries woman are still seen as their husband's property, the fact that in many countries it is still allowed to rape woman on the streets, legalizing abortion, Getting rid of the wage gap ect... Just because most of the shit you see on Twitter, buzzfeed, Facebook or where ever you get your Information about feminism from is kind of ridiculous, doesn't mean that's all there is to it.
@ yeah see that's what I'm saying. That's not feminism. Feminism isn't 'hating men' it's wanting to be seen as an equal to them. Also feminists help with men's issues too. Like the fact that many male victims of SA are often looked down upon or told that they 'should've enjoyed it', like that's a thing that directly stems from the patriarchy and feminists are also against. Or that men's suicide rates are so high because they were always taught to supress their emotions. That's all things that feminism wants to stop, so it's not only for women's benefit, but for everyone's. Feminism isn't trying to take anything from men we just want the same things that men have for woman all across the globe. It's simple really, and beneficial to everyone. There'll always be extremists that are saying that they hate men, but every large movements has people like that. It's not what real feminism is though

@@dennisdebro5444 True. That extremists ruined the name of the “feminists” that leads to hate actual ones.

@@hwfq34fajw9foiffawdiufhuaiwfhw i assume you were ironic, so, no, people who consider themselves "normal" usually don't do this.
Kurt lost his virginity by raping an autistic girl. The man was a perfomative feminist . Look up some of his history.

When Nirvana came to Argentina in 1992, they brought with them a band made entirely with girls called Calamity Jane.

Openly just sitting there on the sidewalk and the kid looked up at him and smiled saying
"Hey, Kurt Cobain, Nirvana ! !
They have a very right wing leaning ideology and yet they seem to LOVE NIRVANA.

you forgot to add this as one big one.

If Kurt was alive today, he would still be a feminist.
He'd probably still be shooting smack too. Most feminists are dysfunctional, most drug addicts are dysfunctional. Makes sense he was both.
Can you blame feminists? They have to live in a world with boys like you that were breast fed tell the age of 5.
He would probably be a SJW who gets offended by everything.
Fantastic video, Jesus Christ, the respect I have for Nirvana and the messages they wanted to spread will never stop growing
Just to could piss off homophones?
Just homophones or all homonyms generally?
99 Bottles of Bleach what's your point?
He wish he was gay so he wouldn't have to date someone who physically abused him in public and was hailed a feminist hero.
Of course he never put in those words, but courtney love took the message.
He put that in this way because feminism was never about equality and he never had a chance to complain.
Sexuality is a capitalist lie
NIRVANA SAYS GAY RIGHTS
P E R I O D
@Gupster 23 Wokka-wokka
@Gupster 23 we’re already the gay lefts
As a trans bisexual fan of nirvana this just makes me fucking euphoric
Quite literally lol 7:15
There was not a drop of toxic masculinity to be found in that band. One of the reasons why they’ve never stopped being a favorite of mine.
People are going to try to say “Oh well Feminism is different now”
The same argument against the current wave of feminism has been the same argument FOR DECADES now.
Just because people shape these arguments to be new doesn’t mean they are.
Mr. Ouija They are though lmao, new problems cause new arguements.
Feminism is just as reactionary and backwards now as it was when it was first coined.
You need to do one for ELLIOTT SMITH
Yes, and Jeff Buckley maybe together with his dad, some tortured guys.
Toasty Cabbage Waffles Smith is a genius who is always overlooked
its hard to understand elliott smith, one video wouldnt do him justice
i love elliott smith
Yessss Elliott is so underappreciated
To all the stereotypical straight men in the comments : feminism --> women = men, NOT women > men. Therefore, Nirvana was a VERY blatantly feminist band. Now if you're not okay with that, you go against everything Kurt Cobain stood for, so maybe stop listening to his music and go find another random male artist who enjoys degrading women (trust me, there's a lot).
Humanism > Feminism. Same equality stuff but without the hypocrisy of feminism being for equality but doing nothing about divorce rights, fathers rights, circumcision etc.... also no man hating which is great. Kurt was a feminist in the sense that he lied alot and married a abusive racist lol.
@@beyondtheheadrush3863 Feminism is full of hypocrisy. Also it's for women and women only. Feminists say all the time "I could never be friends or date a guy who isn't a feminist/shorter than me/broke/*insert any preference here*". One dude said "I could never date a feminist" (not even agressively btw) & he trended cause all these feminists started insulting him calling him a "fat fuck" (body shaming). "probably living in his mom's basement" (shaming someone for not being rich enough to get a mortgage).
@@SonicJaneStooge this point of view is very narrowminded. Dating preferences have nothing to do with equality. I myself would not date someone that would believe that I am of less worth than them. Saying that fighting for human rights (feminism) and preferences for height, status etc. are the same thing is very harmful and ignorant. I do agree with you on the shaming though, that should never be okay or a part of feminism.
The point of you, that feminism was only for women is also not true. It is also for everyone that doesn't fit into society's gender norms and patriarchy and gets opressed for that.
@@beyondtheheadrush3863 That's the hypocrisy I'm talking about. Feminists be like "body shaming is wrong". Some dude: "I'm not a feminist". Feminists: "you probably have a small penis" LOL. There's so much of it. With abortion feminists be like "my body my choice". When men say "hey what about circumcision? My body my choice applies to us too" Feminists: "we're busy right now. call back later lol." Same with politics. Tons of feminists protested Trump for saying "grab em by the pussy". When Obama was deporting over 3 million people and bombing 6 middle eastern countries where was the protest? Again so much hypocrisy. Only talk about toxic masculinity NEVER talk about toxic femininity. Seom even deny it exists LOL. Hence why being a humanist > feminist.
Hey dude, cheers for including that "No means no" bit. That's awesome of you.
so like everyone is tough anyway seriously you need some guy on the internet to tell you this stuff
A more general approcah the subject would be great
Chongo Power I completely agree.
Except when you are kurt cobain, than no only means no when you shot your own face instead of living through it.
Because that's so stunning and brave to take that position.
I'd be very careful with people that overcompensate this hard. Not for nothing that a lot of male feminists are sexual assaulters or rapists.
do a video on joy division and how they influenced indie music and mad chester
Yes PLEASE
Now that I've heard of him, I would be more interested in a video on Mad Chester. Sounds like an interesting fellow!
its a genre of music from the city of manchester. manchester had a thriving indie scene and included some of the most influential bands of all time like the stone roses, oasis, the smiths, the happy mondays, the inspiral carpets and new order

I can assure you Joy Division were not fascist. Sure, they had a Hitler Youth on one of their EP covers but that doesn’t automatically imply that they’re Nazis. Read into it, I’m sure you’ll see that they weren’t.
the jam oasis were not apart of the mad chester movement, oasis were apart of the brit pop movement. Madchester ended in the 90s
Let's be totally honest. If Kurt Cobain were alive today, angry young misogynists in Reddit, Twitter, and RUclips comments would be calling him an SJW.
Actually at this point, feminists would be calling him a misogynist just for being a man.
Only a couple obscure people on Twitter would call him a misogynist

@99 Bottles of Bleach But that is true. Feminism equals equality
I am glad a man voiced it (because so the anti-feminist movement has one point less to criticize) . Shared it on social media. Well done.
No wonder he shot himself, he felt like no one of his fans understood him and his messages failed to reach them
Bruv he shot himself mainly because Courtney Love was abusive.
None of you have a clue about why Kurt killed himself. He killed himself because he became what he feared the most, a famous mainstream artist of his time.
Movere Ergo Sum If by “he shot himself” you mean Courtney Love shot him then you’d be correct.
Movere Ergo Sum no.. he shot himself because of how bad his stomach problems got. He used to take heroine to help treat it

i love contain dude, seeing people like andrew tate made me lose hope but i come to this video for comfort to know that men like kurt exist
I loved this video, just about as much as I love Nirvana and their music. Nirvana was a band ahead of it's time, yet made it a whole generational movement. I feel like definitely the messages got lost among so many fans they had, and I can't claim that some of these songs meanings didn't miss me either.
I've noticed the people least receptive or sympathetic to Nirvana's 'feminist' leanings tend to be the most passionate floaters of Courtney killed Kurt conspiracy theories.

Could this be similar to The Beatles not playing segregated audiences?
The Beatles didn't play segregated audiences because they are British. It wasn't progressive of them, it was regressive of the U.S culture.
@@Pheatan I never said it was progressive. I was comparing Nirvana's actions to The Beatles.
The Beatles refused to play in segregated concerts because of many factors, like not being from the U.S., being influenced by many soul artists of colour (that's why they called an album rubber soul), and other factors. Either way, they did a good thing

Dave Grohl appeared in 2 of the 3 albums by Nirvana (the 2nd, Nevermind, being the best-selling), went touring and hung out with Kurt and Kris. He was really in Nirvana all the way in the end. Sure he joined late, but Ringo joined the Beatles late and he's considered part of the band.

Great video man. It's great to see someone focusing on these issues that were so important to Kurt. I was just old enough that my own views on the world were being shaped when Nirvana broke out into the mainstream. I gravitated heavily to them and picked apart kurts lyrics.
I think this is how he would want us to remember him.
This world needs more Kurt Cobain's.
Dude these people getting upset over women deserving the same treatment as men is fucking funny

This video is gonna make some people mad, I can already feel it
Well, it did make me feel disappointed as it showed (beautifully, btw, nothing against the video itself) Cobain truly did believe in what's now become a big pillar of modern feminism (which I heavily dislike even as a left-leaning person).
I really hope it doesn't because it shouldn't
I mean, mad at the channel, people should be mad because it's been fucking 30 years and people still don't get that being an asshole is not a good thing in general

How can you be truly punk rock without questioning gender roles?
So many people in this comment section are so mad for no reason. Like they clearly don't know the definition of feminism and it SHOWS.
@ that's not 'today's feminism', it's performative feminism. There are still may organizations that are actually trying to tackle the bigger issues like rape, feminzide,
the fact that in many countries woman are still seen as their husband's property, the fact that in many countries it is still allowed to rape woman on the streets, legalizing abortion,
Getting rid of the wage gap
ect...
