Hey guys thanks for watching. I hope you found the video entertaining and if you did please make sure to like this video so RUclips will share this video with others and subscribing would be a bonus.
I worked at the Lockhart/Hinkley/Abengoa solar plant in 2011 and had to live in Barstow. Hated the lowlifes but in actuality it is an interesting area in regards to history. I remember I went to a Dollar General and asked the young lady how long has she lived in Barstow and she said all her life. She also told me many people go missing, there are thousands of abandoned mines in the desert and if someone does not like you they will dump you in the mines never to be found again. The actress, June Lockhart, had a farm off of Harper road off of Highway 58, that where Abengoa Mojave is. The road during the times we were heading toward the plant being constructed was a madhouse, some people did die from accident from driving like loons trying to beat each other to work. Trucks would turn over but I made sure I got there earlier than the rush and slept for 1 hour before getting out of my truck. The desert is beautiful as long as you have plenty of water but most water in desert has been contaminated by mining, the toxic plume has reached the main aquifers years ago and contamination at Hinckley is still an issue even though Erin Brokovich the big time lawyer went to bat for them kinda sorta.
Oh wow very I threshing about the people going missing in Barstow. And smart of you to get to work early to beat everyone and be able to take a nap. Also had no idea about June Lockhart having a farm out there but I guess that's the idea to get away from all the craziness of Hollywood and escape to where nobody can find her. Thanks for the comment and sorry it took so long for me to reply, I normally get beck to my comments with in a day.

Interesting finding brand new homes never lived in out in the desert and abandoned! Such a shame. Something fell through on that development!! Thanks For sharing
@@909Adventures I'd guess that financing was frozen during the sub-prime crisis back in 2008. I'd guess that was when the work was halted. The ownership of the development probably reverted to a bank or other financial institution. It is remarkable that they have managed to prevent much vandalism. Also remarkable is how long they are willing to sit on property without doing anything with it.
Oh wow. I haven't been by in a while. I have yet to see the RVs. I will keep an eye out for them the next time I am in the area. Thanks for letting me know.
I've always found this unfinished neighborhood fascinating. It's not quite in the middle of nowhere as Lenwood is only a one minute drive away, but it just feels like it is. I don't remember when exactly when the houses were constructed, but if I remember correctly it was the late 2000's so maybe the recession was the reason they were never finished. For a period of time I believe there were squatters living in a couple of the houses, as there were a few beat up vehicles usually parked outside and you'd occasionally see someone outside as you were driving by. For many years these places didn't have the garages boarded up (don't remember if the doors and windows always were, but I don't think so). Just figured I'd share what little I know since I've drove past these houses for like 15 years at this point.
Oh wow very interesting for sure. But yeah I wouldn't doubt that squatters took over some of these houses. But thank you for sharing this with me and sorry it took so long to reply, I'm bot sure how I missed this comment.
I don't know that much about construction, but as far as I can tell, before you start to build, you first bring in the utilities and build some decent access roads. Maybe water is already there - hydrant at 5:45. That power pole is only for temporary use. In modern construction you usually bury the power supply lines. With so much space, why are these homes so close to each other? Call me crazy, but I actually like Barstow. It's on Route 66 and it has that dry heat that I like so much. I already had enough cold, dark winters to last me lifetime. Give me that dry heat. ☀😎
There was a Barstow stop on the way to las vegas when I took the greyhound back in the day. It stopped at the train car McDonald's even that little section felt very depressing and is in part why I only fly to las vegas now.
my house is a mile from that location and I have never seen anybody there during the day. I do see off road bikes during the night and roughly a month ago, i have seen some vehicles there.
Yeah I know I keep wanting to go back to do a better Explorer on the place. But they have a trailer out front and when I drive by at night the lights are on inside so i'm assuming that there is somebody there keeping an eye on the place.
I knew a guy who bought the 1st house of a new housing track well over 20 years ago when the aerospace industry moved out of CA and nobody else bought in. He had to move losing everything because it started getting scary with squatters and druggies moved in and started ripping out all the copper out of the houses
Same thing is happened in hinkley there was so many more houses other there, including my grandparents house. But due to squatters pg&e bought the 40 acre lot just to bulldoze everything.
80s? I don't know why someone would maintain them for 40 years and not bring them up to a sellable condition. My guess is these were early 2000's and the real estate meltdown caused the developer to go bankrupt.
Very interesting. It's a shame those places have been left idle. Is there a Real Estate agent that can be contacted for more information? From outside the places seem to be very nice. JRH Hatboro, PA
Those houses are on the other side of Grandview, i lived there as a baby. Given the city itself, i'm surprised they aren't gutted and COMPLETELY destroyed at this juncture given they've been there for almost 15 years
I'm surprised as well. One of the houses have been knocked down since the recording of this video and there is now security on site posted up in a little trailer behind some chain link fence, so that might be a little deterrent.
Born and raised in Barstow. Got out in 1987. It was never Beverly Hills, but it's really sad to see what it's become since then. 108°F with humidity, you're a big guy, and you're wearing a black T-shirt?? You're just ASKING for heatstroke.
Yeah I know don't know why I choose to wear black on such a hot day and a t-shirt at that ugh it was miserable 😩 I can still feel the heat of that day whenever I watch this video. And yeah Barstow and the surrounding ares have taken a bit of a nose dive.
Yeah normally when you find something like this it's just a shell of what it once was. I'm sure these wont be in this condition for to much longer unfortunately.

I lived in a spot where I could see all the houses and I always wondered why they never finished them or if they would.
