With the release of barrows gloves, it finally gave mains the advantage over Pures, besides just their armor. People found out they could get them with only 41 def. (RFD was about a month before pest control, so void didn't exist yet either). So getting 45 def for the helmet + gloves was the clear choice, thus the "Zerker" was born. Barbarian assault came out 9 months later giving them Torsos, solidifying the build and the rest is history. Basically they were created to decimate pures with their new bonuses that gave them the advantage damage wise AND defensively. Not just defensively like it had been before Bgloves/RFD release.

I was 90+ atk maxed zerk in old rs2, now I stay 42def 50atk and I like it much more. 60atk might be best if you plan to stay 41/42def forever, but I'm thinking 50atk rigour tank 70def and enjoying 50/60/65 def along the way
