Underrated channel Edit: I have just put my long forgotten Raspberry Pi 3 in my toolbox at work with a VGA to hdmi adapter. I'm not good with making videos but I may actually post something for once.
Thx Sarg really enjoyed your commentary , ya need to add 3D printing to the Pi’s attributes too.. its a beautiful little think tank :) .. subscribed too thx U
I have tested quite some Raspberry Pi OS. The one I use all the time is Rune Audio. With the Hifi Berry DAC on top of the Raspberry makes for a great hifi music player. I also test Volumio for audio, which was unstable here. Raspbian is kind of slow on the RP2, and I can't imagine video's play fluidly. Havent tried it on RP3. I tested Kodi, and I'm susprised by the great video quality. However, I can't get Netflix up and running, all I get is errors. That's a bummer, because from Netflix you're sure the stream is ok. Kodi is also very complex with adding respositories. You get lost easily, and many have bad streams in low quality or don't work at all. Kodi gives no insight in stream strenghts like torrents do. Live tv works great. The RP works best with a limited OS like Kodi or Rune Audio. There is a Windows 10 for Kodi but hardly to any use.
I have 2 RPi 3 boards both bought at walmart both have kano software i don't really care about the software looking to change them both out so learning my options
OpenELEC used to be the goto media distro, but the project leader sold out to vendor WeBox so most of the developers moved to LibreELEC. Now LE is the goto and OE is pretty much dead.
Hey there, im a 14 year old kid who has a workshop with an electronics lab section that i use arduinos and raspberry pis for projects. I have a selection of micro usb cards with raspbian, windows 10 and some open ones for a retropi setup
My favorite ways of using a Pi: 5. as a "desktop" 4. game emulation 3. as a remote-controllable web radio player 2. running a personal cloud server* 1. Using it as a VPN* *caveat: USB2 storage and 10/100Mbps Ethernet. Expect it to be slow on either or both.
For anyone who needs some ideas: I have OpenVPN (PiVPN) setup on pi 1 B+ (about 5Mbps good enough to remotely access network). NextCloud on pi 3 B+ (FreeNAS backup and family photo upload server) Intending on using Pi 2 as a smart home server (MQTT. OpenHABian is an option too). Just need to clean up and link my FreeNAS server up to NextCloud. That has a power switch that's currently remotely controlled via a NodeMCU via MQTT. A webserver could also be setup on a Pi if you wanted a website/blog (could do it easily with DietPI and wordpress ).
Thanks for video, it is very useful to me Please give me information about the operating system 3th in your video. Waiting for a reply from you.... Thanks
HEY! I am 72 (therefore a senior) so resent your implying that we are not familiar with computers. Don't forget that it was MY generation that bought the first Commodore or Atari or IBM PCs! You might have been right when referring to OUR parents but, heck, even my late mother was using her computers when she passed away in her 80s. (My father, well... not so much.)
Quite right - in fact my grandfather conceived the idea of cloud computing by using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data in 1964 when he was 97.
Some of you are vets lmao maybe he's refering to the ones that never touched a computer because its complicated. I mean the first time i saw a terminal computer i was like "cool an old tv" XD Terminals are pretty cool i always use them to kill my brothers internet because he's always downloading stuff And its slowing the connection so i got my self a raspberry pi on my 15th birthday and poof just like that im more interested in network security and CLIs.
I mean, in fairness most of your generation isn't. The minority of you all invented them as we know them today, but as a PC repairmen by trade I can promise you that just because seniors USE them these days, doesn't mean they are familiar with them. Most of my clients are elderly and need lots of help with basic things, which I GLADLY provide as part of services, but using and familiar with are not the same.
another boomer claiming to have done something first therefore they are better, despite the fact that your generation, boomers, are the least technologically cable since the advent of computers, yes it is true someone of your generation brought the idea of computers to the forefront, but thats a very small percentage, and you are losing in the long run, as technology leaves you behind due to younger and sharper minds coming up with new and unique ways of integrating computers into our daily lives, not your generation, you guys are sadly not capable of keeping up.
Raspberry Pi makes great sense for doing things like measuring sensors and controlling other electronics. But not so much for desktop computing or portable computing. Used old windows laptop with 4GB of memroy can be had for under $50, much cheaper than raspberry when you consider it already includes display, keyboard, case etc. And it can also run raspian desktop too! Also, old android phones are being practically thrown away. These old phones with 1GB or 2GB of memory also make much better portable devices than raspberry pi.
I'm 61 and have built more than 12,000 PC's since 1987. I also helped develop the Mozilla Browser. I've trained THOUSANDS of IT Technicians. I had input on the content of the A+ series of Exams. I was one of the first MS Technet Professionals. Seniors learning about computers? What would you like to know?
I want to play retro games, watch youtube and play movies from my NAS. What's my best option? I was thinking buying two Raspberry Pie systems. Install Raspian on the first, install Kodi and watch youtube through the browser. And to install Retropie on the second? Or is it possible to do it all on one system board?
You might consider updating this. I have a Pi 3 and even the Raspian OS which was recommended is no longer being supported. I can't even do little things like install VLC because the package manager wont update.
i has try 2 year now make my son retropie game console but if i add image no have any games, werte i can load all snes etc roms to raspberrypi3 ? and how boot to usb hard disk ? i has try many many yutube setting how boot but no work ewer. i not understand why retropie not working ewer. need games to usb stick and play. but how. i has try play ,kodi, retropie, emulation station, many different distro but ewer no can play ,were have all games ??????
Great information but the background music was so loud and distracting that I had a hard time to make out what you were saying, if you feel you have to have background music, make the volume much lower, and make sure that you choose a track that has no vocals, since the vocals will compete with your vocals and make listening to you much more difficult
In English, the way you stated it is pronounced does not match the way is spelled. Spelled the way you pronounced it would require the accentuation mark above the "e". I have used several distros of Linux with "Mate" and it is never displayed with the accentuated "e". Therefore, in English, it was pronounced properly in this video.
I use Raspian and it's way too slow! And you recommend that? And Android needs 'tweaking' to run correctly? Kodi is not a OS -- it's for watching 'TV'^! a.s.o.

Nice, informative video. Thanks, and keep up the good work. I'd really like to see a tutorial on how to, step-by-step, set these projects up.
I threw CentOS on it and use my pi 3 as a mini test server. Such a fun little project
Marcello silva are you kidding me I love it so much especially the emulator
Your video is excellent. It took me a while to grasp the concept, but I get it. R Pi is cheap and versatile. Your video clarified it.
R-Pi is a brilliant device, so much fun.
Guess what! The raspberry pie 3 can now run psp and dsi games. It's in the experimental emulators area
Nash Anderson RetroPie
Nash Anderson No shit xD

Berkin Tasli Wow, it feels like it's at normal speed! Thanks for the advice!
Marcello Silva you talk really slow but good video bro thanks
Berkin Tasli yeah dude, that's what happens when you try to do the video without guidance
Woah
I went to 1.5
I'd put "computing learning" on the very frst place. And industrial control application is also awesome :)
I use plex (free version) instead of kodi. My pc is the server and the pi is the home theater. Btw great video :)
Thx Sarg really enjoyed your commentary , ya need to add 3D printing to the Pi’s attributes too.. its a beautiful little think tank :) .. subscribed too thx U
I am so ordering a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ right now...

I use my Pi for Pi-Hole (network wide ad blocking), PiVPN (to get ad-blocking and geolocked content of my country anywhere) and DNSCrypt
I put my old raspberry pi 2 to turn my friends dumd hd tv into a smart tv to a degree.
Can u use a rca exit from the jack in pie to a rca socket on old crt tv ?

i think your points are much more valid in my opinion
Libreelec is not another name for Kodi. It's a minimal Linux OS to run (the included) Kodi.
Also u can Install kodi through retropie 2in1
I won a Raspberry Pi Zero in a contest that Arrow Electronics held recently. I can't wait for it to arrive!
Yes, I know it is only $5 retail, but heck, I will take anything free! LOL!

Thank You for bringing this to my attention. I haven't really been digging through the Pi community in a while so it's something I'll look into.

Sir Please Can You Give Me Best Android OS Link For PI 3, And Give Some Best Instruction too..

Mate is pronounced "Mah-tay". It's a Spanish word like all the other tools in the Mate desktop like Caja, Pluma, Engrampa, etc.
As a native Spanish speaker I'm really confused right now hahah
