I can definitely say they are great for shadow boxing. You'll gain endurance at the same time as developing technique, without really tiring you out too quickly. They really feel like weapons, rather that they turn your hands into weapons, and with any weapon you swing at another living person, you have to be determinate of what amount of force you want to connect with. If you're sparring, always be sure to remember the damage that you can inflict and treat your partner with respect!
Yeah I spared whit one guy and he almost knocked me out , well to be fair at that point it was more like a fight rather then sparing , it messed up my hearing on my left ear for some time , so spar lightly , don't hurt people
Same when I was starting muay thai, my sparring partner kept kicking one of my leg so hard I felt like my leg was clotting with blood for weeks after, no need to spar that hard as a beginner, there's literally no reason to.
I prefer 16oz because in my opinion it's better to be throwing around more weight. When you fight you wear 10-12oz. It feels like I'm wearing just wraps when I slip them on. I am also 200lbs as well and the trend tends to be heavier guys wear the 16s.
I use 14oz, but it's a little heavy for me, i think i'll go for 12oz next gloves. But yeah, go light is the most important, some poeples hit realy heavy in sparring, i took a punsh in the jaw that was close to knock me out (and hurt) that wasn't intensional at all, but it hurt (especialy from a man heavier than me). On the other hand i sparred with a guy (boxing sparring) super light without mouth piece and hitinh realy light and none of them was hurt. So go light, more fun.^^

I know I am not a victim I might have come across as I am better than them but I want to know your thought on how people perceive you when you are trying to live your purpose.
People show their true colors over time, and when you are growing and developing as a person and at your own pace, you tend to lose that connection with old friends. Those who should be in your life supporting you will reveal themselves on your journey to a professional athlete, and those who should not be around you simply won't be. The strength you must gain is found in accepting this reality and finding new friends who share your interests. I understand what you are going through, but hang on to the thing you love most, and it will always treat you well.

What do you think of Rough N Rowdy? In case you've never seen it, the premise is average joes who hate each other lace up and duke it out. Makes for interesting looking fights. Boxing rules only.

The ibjjf punch and mma eyepokes are 2 different things. In mma, you dont know if the eyepokes are accidental, so for the benefit of the doubt, youre given a warning. As for bjj, you cant accidentally strike someone.
Greetings, Coach. I am looking to getting into a combat sport when society eventually gets back to normal and gyms reopen. I train at home every day, including shadowboxing, general flexibility and strength training, as best I can with my limited equipment. I've always loved boxing, the sweet science, and feel like I'd be better suited to it because of my quick feet and hands, but I understand that boxing alone would leave me at a disadvantage in MMA. I however am unsure about anything involving kicking, as I injured my groin playing football (soccer) when I was younger and it's always been vulnerable since, and I just generally would fail at head kicks. What would you suggest; that I take up boxing or somehow figure out a way to improve my leg/groin/hip dexterity without aggravating old injury? Or maybe try some form of grappling/wrestling? Cheers for the regular videos, it's really appreciated given the current state-enforced boredom 🤣
Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth: Find a heavy bag somewhere that you can beat the crap out of. Work on developing the power in your punches with it. When it comes to throwing kicks, they aren't entirely necessary for the sport of MMA, where yes, there have been some very successful fighters who employ them(Mirko Cro Cop, Conor McGregor, so on and so forth), but the most used type of kick in MMA is low kicks to the leg, which damage the posture of the other fighter and may limit what strikes they try to throw. If you can confidently develop the strength in a low kick against a heavy bag, as well as comfortably mix it into your shadowboxing and light sparring, you will have the necessary tools to be successful, absolutely. As for grappling, if you can get into a gym with a BJJ or wrestling coach, take full advantage of their knowledge and learn the grappling arts available to you - those are more useful overall than kick-based striking for MMA. I hope it all works out for you!
@@BeamMonsterZeus I will add the following to your suggestions. If he doesn't have a garage to hang a heavy bag in I would suggest what is called a free standing bag assuming he has the money to buy one. I have one they are full size heavy bag (you can strike from legs up to head) but have a base on them rather than need a metal bracket/wall to hang off. The base of my bag is filled with sand. I will warn though they are quite expensive if you want a good one and in my experience best not to buy cheap things that you are going to hit hard as they don't last.
If you're making a living with your hands you want to protect them at all cost. For boxing you should only train in winning brand and get the biggest size glove the offer.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see ground n pound only matches. No standing strikes. Must have a knee or 3-points on the ground to strike or from a grappling position. Punches mostly, limited kicks and knees. But only in grounded positions. Let's say for both training and as a competition.
As weird as that sounds I helped a dude about ten years ago who told me everyone avoided him because he bust his face surfing and expected jaws 2 fishy vendetta
I weigh 63 kg and went for a pair of muay thai 14OZ gloves. But I asked the customer service for a good soft pair of gloves. So with that in mind and Ramsey's tip on open hand inside the glove sparring I am not at all concerned. I even took that tip with me into the martial arts club I help run. I am one of the biggest proponent of safe sparring in there. To the extent that I will probably be annoying xD But I am fine with that.
I agree controlling your punches is the most important thing, BUT the softness of the glove still makes a huge difference when you happen to touch your partner on the jaw or on the nose, or in the face in general. It's so much more comfortable for your partner to get hit with soft gloves. And unlike Ramsay says your hands will never get damaged in sparring, unless it's hard sparring. So in sparring the gloves are there protect your partner, not your hands. What are the softer gloves available for sparring?
Did I say your hands will get damaged in light sparring? I don’t believe I did. It has happened to me, and recently, but I don’t recall saying that in this video.
My sensei says that my MMA gloves will start cutting people when I start punching opponents well. Do MMA gloves have a greater propensity for cutting, and if so, why?
Yep. MMA gloves have a smaller surface area, they are rock hard when you make a tight fist, and they have a bunch of seems and grooves on them. If you are punching with any level of power, you’re going to mark up your training partners and possibly cut them. Stick to light contact sparring only in MMA gloves.

Ramsey, I have a question. How, if at all, do you adjust your posture and footing when light/touch sparring? With "proper" posture there's an inherent weight behind my punches. Even if my hand isn't moving, and my partner runs into it, there's force imparted from strong balance and posture.
I'm neither Ramsey nor a coach by any means, but I can share a bit of experience I've had learning to box. A few coaches have taught me that one of the first steps to developing technique, as a foundation for other things, is to practice throwing certain strikes slowly and methodically, and after figuring out where and how to move my body/feet, speed it up gradually. Spending time on a heavy bag is pretty mandatory, in my opinion, so that you may employ that strike with proper form at about full power. All that is to say, you should spar with a person to develop technique, NOT to employ the technique in a damaging fashion - that is what the heavy bag is for - so in that sense, you want to go slowly on all your strikes and your partner should do the same. Ramsey actually has a video very well demonstrating what this looks like, and you can find it right here: ruclips.net/video/dEewKBBDXEM/видео.html
More or less no. If you use your gloves for both the heavy bag and sparring they will get worn out. Maybe if you need to break them in. Yet eventually they will get too worn out for sparring.
