- I love this one! They split up the strikers and grapplers into different brackets with the winner of each side meeting in the finals! Great idea for the time

I watched this live on PPV and still have my recording of the event on VHS!
I remember seeing this once as a a small child I would find it again till I was in high school

Spikers had people calling Gracie's hotel room all night in an effort to get him in the ring with a lack of sleep. It was deserved.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 He also said in the pre-fight conference that Gracie's eyes reminded him of his girlfriend and wanted to do something sexual to him during the fight.
I recall reading an article in Black Belt magazine years ago that said Spikers made insulting sexual remarks to Gracie during the press conference which wasn't the best idea!

I love Erik Paulson.
Dude was very disadvantaged by the hair grabbing. Crazy Wearing just hung onto it for about 10 minutes.
28:50 - Paulson is fighting his instincts. In a regular MMA or even the old SHOOTO rules match, he would have triangled the guy.
It was also just dumb that they kept yelling "no submissions" even when he was just controlling the guy. I think the two rule sets idea was interesting at the time, but badly thought out, even then.

In an ideal world, it would have been Renzo against Spijkers, Vale, and Paulson. For the mid 90s, that would be an impressive list of fighters to beat.
