Best bloody reviewer on the internet, no messing just gets on with it.
Well done mate
Thank you for your kind words.
I think the sample with the ball that falls is the best because it could last a lifetime. Thanks for the useful video 😊🙏🏻
Totally agree!
Thank you for the video. I started eating soft boiled eggs again, from my childhood. Thanks to this video, I purchased the last one. Works like a charm.
Glad you found my video useful.
The third one is being used incorrectly. You're supposed to hold onto the top ball when dropping the weighted sliding ball. If you hold onto the cup and egg (like in the video) you dampen the transfer of energy of the cup rim to the egg shell.
Thanks for correcting me. I'll give it a try.
Great comment buddy, great detail and explanation!
All of them are being use poorly or incorrectly smh
@@clinthightowerclinthightow4950 How was the third one misused?
I love it when you come to the comments and the thing you came to say is already the number one comment.
Finally! Someone had to do it. Well done.
Thank you. 🙂
I like the esthetics of the long one. Great video! Very helpful.
And as a bonus, It works quite well also. 🙂
Great video. Fairly late in life I have discovered the pleasure of eating soft boiled eggs.
I'm old enough to remember seeing people using egg cups and dipping their toast slices into the soft boiled eggs. But today, at least here in the southern U. S. you don't really see folks eating soft boiled eggs like this anymore.
So with such a lack of people still knowledgeable about the practice. Videos like yours are a blessing. Thank you.
Glad I could help you with your culinary choice of kitchen tools.
My English partner and I live in the south and make them all the time!
Toast fingers, called sappy soldiers, it's been a long time, grew up in Scotland 😉
I might have to buy the 5th one. I do love some soft-boiled eggs!
You should!
Its not too shabby as they say.
The Grandkids love using it.
Thank you mate, you saved me a lot of money and spared me some frustration.
Glad I could help
Thank you. You’ve saved me some shopping time. Lately I’ve had a craving for soft boiled eggs but can’t recall what my mom used to cut the top.
No matter how hard you try.....
The way Mum made the boiled eggs you remember, they will always taste better, than the ones you make. 😀
Thank you very much. I had purchased by chance the last one but had no idea which one of the two options to get after my mother showed me a picture of the long tool at her friends place.
I'm sure she will be happy.
You're actually supposed to remove the top of the eggshell with help of the eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher itself, without reaching for the knife. And it's really easy.
Really liked your video. My mum just sent me the spring loaded egg cutter and I had no idea how to use it. Very informative and straightforward.
Glad it was helpful!
You rock!! We have the same favorite!! Though I've always wondered about the others. Definitely cool to watch somebody use them all to compare. Thanks Gary!
Awesome! Thank you!
Just received my set today, 1 topper 4 cups and spoons. I have the last one you reviewed. Can't wait to try it tomorrow morning. Thanks for the instructions, will update with results.
Hope you enjoy it!
Looking forward to what your thoughts on it.
I got the spring one, works like a charm
Glad to hear your happy with the egg topper you already own. 🙂
Thanks so much I was looking for some ideas and you made it much easier. I liked the spring loaded one as well.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks heaps, I have the last one and I had no idea how to use it and didn’t know it had a spring! Works perfectly!!
Glad I could help!
Great idea Garry. I have used the scissor-type for many years. It does not work if you don't whack the egg first. The egg shell is a wonder of nature and will resist the spikes unless it is weakened first.
I must have perfectly boiled soft eggs and you stop them cooking by whacking them on the head with a spoon to let the steam out. Chefs drop them in iced water so they don't have to crack the egg. I like the spring loaded one because it is an elegant addition to my elegant breakfast array. I shall buy one.
Thanks for the info.
I'll give that method a go for the scissor type Egg cutters.
Great video, quick & effective demonstrations of all the egg toppers types I'd been looking at. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for providing a very informative and helpful presentation. Your video is well made and a pleasure to watch. I've just started eating soft boiled eggs for the healthy fat soluble vitamins in the yokes. I've been using a knife to top the eggs and wanted a better way. I found it thank to your reviews. Thanks from New England USA!
Glad I could help.
Thank you!!! Have been eating soft-boiled my whole life and get on ok with a paring knife and an occasional crunchy egg bite. But that last one looks like a good one to try! Thank you for your video!
Glad my video was helpful.
Funny, I have a scissor one like the first two you tested. For me it works a treat and I can remove the top in one go without having to get a knife. I gently press down on the sides of it with one hand while the other hand cuts. That bit of pressure lets the teeth get a grip to bite and then pry off the top fairly cleanly.
I think it depends on the size of the egg you use it on, I use large eggs only.🙂
Just what I was looking for. Thanks Garry
Glad my video helped you.
Brilliant concise and informative review, saved me from wasting money and now know what to buy. Thank you.
Glad my video was helpful!
Hi Garry, thanks for the great video. Where did you buy the last one from?
HI Gary thanks for that. the long one very good for me. I find however that the dropping weight may require a second drop however what I do is just give the dropping motion a bit of assistance by sort of pushing it down quicker than the normal drop and this works 4/5 times. eric perth
That one works as you have stated, with a few drops, it's topped the egg.
Just got an egg cup set with all the tools and thanks to your video I now know how to use them all. Oddly, my kit came with the last two toppers. I thought maybe the compact one you really liked was used for something else but it's basically the same tool. Wonder why it came with both types 🤔. But thank you for your video. Looking forward to trying mine out. 😁
Its always a good idea to have a redundancy plan in place. 😉
thanks. you've saved me lots of time and effort
You are welcome!
Thank you for the information! I have been looking at the different designs all day and couldn't even guess which would be the best one.
Your video was done very well!
Glad I could help!
I like your recommendation. It clearly works well but also has a nice sleek simple design. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome!
This video was a lot of fun to make, and I'm glad you enjoyed watching it.🙂
I have always cracked my egg with a spoon and end up with little bits of shell inside the egg which are fiddly to remove. I was in a shop today and saw an egg cutter for the first time. I didn't know they existed. The illustration showed a perfectly topped egg, but I was wondering how effective it really was. Thanks to your review I now know and can purchase one.
There fun thing to play with, and the kids love using them too.🙂
I use the one with the gravity ball. It seems to work fine.
That one is not bad at all, its reliable, and works as expected.
The only downside is its length for storage in the cutlery drawer.
very informative - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks mate, ill go the $5 ebay 1. Then hopefully upgrade to the last string one.
Please drop back once you get that egg topper, and let others know your experience with it.
Thanks! It was very good! So now I know which one to buy! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad I could help!
I have the first one, WMF brand. It works like a charm, if a bit messy.
Thank you for sharing your insights.
I wish on the first one you had held your hand done on the edge of the device instead of holding the egg.
Great video though. Thank you 🙂
굉장히 유용한 조언이네요. 다섯번째를 구매하겠어요. 감사합니다.
Ebay에서 판매하는 것을 찾을 수 있습니다.
great video going to buy the last one .thank u for doing the test .
Hope you enjoy it when you get the egg topper.
P.S. I'll have another video up on Tuesday testing three different Jar Openers.
Greetings Garry, from Alberta, Canada.
We just got the spring loaded (the one your grandkids use) as a gift. We like it too, but don't forget to tell your public that it is the combination of a very sharp edge on the inside of the "cup" and the "vibration" from the "spring loaded" , or the movement of the "dropped" weight, that actually does the cutting. Mine is quite sharp, so caution!! It also doesn't work as well on medium eggs.
Thanks for your feedback on the spring loaded cutter.🙂
I first saw the last kind at French laundry or guy savoy; had to to have it, fun little gadget when you need it!
Glad you agree with my personnel recommendation?🙂
Brilliant review Garry, and amusing at times too! I bought the last two shown, but haven't tried it yet, greatly encouraged by your review! Many thanks. (UK)
I think you will be pleasantly surprised at their performance.
awesome, just what I was looking for - should I invest in an egg topper gadget or not, and all three of the steel bell ones work well enough that I won't be concerned if I can't find #5 exactly
Glad my video helped you.
Great video and very helpful
Glad to hear it!🙂
Great review.
Glad you think so!
As liamp carps subscriber, I confirm that that stuff called "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher"
For those who don't use a Dutch translate program.
[Eiers chal ensollbruchstellenverursacher] translates to [egg shell causing predetermined breaking points] 🙂
Thanks Gary!! I’m having a good laugh at myself. Just made soft boiled eggs to use my new egg shell cutter thingy (the one you like best). It was my second try at it and same thing happened. I couldn’t get the topper off the egg without collapsing the shell into the egg! Now, if only I had looked up how to do this earlier and found your video, I would have known to use a knife!!😂🤪 (I thought by some magic this cutter was supposed to crack and lift the top of the shell off instead of suctioning itself to the whole egg!) Maybe you should mention the knife part for any other dunces out there like me who don’t have a clue about proper egg de-shelling!
These egg toppers are surrounded by mystery haha😃
When you think about it logically, if the egg top was lifted with the topper, it would be a pain to remove from the device.
Thank you! great video!
Glad you liked it!🙂
I got the exact same last one and it was working great, then the ball broke off the top. Wasn't rough with it or anything, just held on with cheap welding.
Thats sad to hear.
The last egg-topper in the video - the spring-loaded one (from Lakeland) - works very well but I have had to return EACH one in turn to the shop because the shock of the egg topper's action eventually destroys the weld attaching the ball to the sprung-loaded rod. I thought it was a batch problem but having been returning them over the last 6 months to the shop I realize the problem is intrinsic to the engineering. A weld is not sufficient to secure the ball - it should be bolted in place. Oh well.
Thats sad to hear, but it's handy for others who read your comment.
Thanks for the warning.
P.S. I've not had that problem yet, but who knows what the future will hold.
i bought a gomco, works perfectly
I'm not familiar with the brand Gomco.
But pleased yours works as expected.
Hi, you asked for comments if you are using some of them "totally wrong".
You are indeed using the two scissor types wrong. And very wrong I could add.
The scissors work perfectly, and are the fastest and cleanest ones to use.
Just remember to (1) use the scissors on the pointed side of the egg, (2) secure the scissors onto the egg with the other hand while you are clipping, (3) keep the scissors closed so that you take away the top of the egg when you are lifting the scissors away.
That is: You never have to use your fingers to remove the shell.
Thanks for your comment.
I think those scissor types are for smaller eggs, and not the large ones I use.
Awesome !
Thank you! Cheers!
This great, thank you. Going to get the last one. 👍🏻
Glad my video was helpful 🙂
Fantastic real world review 5⭐️
Thanks for you comment.
I think a tea spoon works best. No gimmicks and gizmos, less cleanup. You could just use a knife with a similar great result. Thanks for the video.
The method you describe, is way I was taught, by my parents also. 🙂
very useful... Than you!
Glad to hear that!
Wholesome
Thanks for commenting.
I have another video that might help you, if your repairing a wall for the first time.
ruclips.net/video/JmcR9TW4mM0/видео.html
By watching both, you will get a better understanding as to how easy it is to DIY.
The first one, which you say: " chuck it in the rubbish bin, waste of time", works perfectly if you do it properly.
My wife and I have been using the exact same device for about 10 years or more.
It works just fine.
You use a slight amount of downward pressure to prevent the device from sliding up on the curvature of the egg as you squeeze.
The second one, which you also regard as useless, will also work exactly the same if you do it properly.
Thanks for your comment.
The egg toppers you use seem to be OK for smaller eggs.
The eggs I buy, are simply too large for the scissor teeth to get a proper grip on the egg shell.
Was the spring loaded one large enough for bigger eggs❓ It appeared to be the same size as the other spring back one which you didn't like because it was too small.
Theres not a lot of difference between them.
Thanks for your video. I bought the gravity style cutter (the last one you demonstrated and recommended), and my hot soft boiled egg exploded all over me. Just to clarify, I watched your video after this occured. I'll have to try it again. Perhaps I applied too much pressure?
Theres nothing like an exploding egg to brighten you're day, they make a big mess to clean up.
P.S. Don't be like me, and put an egg in the microwave. (It doesn't end well) 😆
I have always enjoyed soft-boiled eggs, when out to breakfast, but never attempted to fix one at home. All the recipes I read seemed like too much trouble.
While on a family visit, recently, we were discussing the differences between store bought eggs, and the fresh laid eggs, as my Daughter-in-law's 9 chickens are starting to produce more and more eggs. I mentioned, during the conversation, that I love soft boiled eggs and that if there were a simple way to fix them, I would enjoy them more often.
Well........making a short story longer, my DIL remembered my comment. Yesterday, for Christmas, one of my gifts from her and my Son, was an egg topper.
Folks, I am here to tell you! If you are looking for the right egg topper this, is it. As I indicated, I have never tried preparing a soft-boiled egg at home because it looked like a pain in the butt, and when it comes to cooking, I like things simple!!
Being a virgin soft-boiled egg chef, you can imagine my surprise and delight when I produce two perfectly cooked and topped soft-boiled eggs. I even used one store bought egg and one two-day old eggs.
Listen, if you enjoy soft-boiled eggs, do yourself a favor and go out and purchase the 'EPARE" premium egg topper set.
I have no idea what they cost, but whatever the price, it's worth it!! It even has a "Limited Lifetime Warranty"!! Beat that!!!!!!
Hey, just my experience and my opinion!!!
Have you ever tried "Spatchcocking a Turkey or a Chicken"??????????
Glad you have discovered soft boiled eggs.
The brand you recommend, and my personal favourite, are are basically the same, apart from the brand name.
To answer your question:
Have you ever tried "Spatchcocking a Turkey or a Chicken"
No I haven't, I tend to butterfly the fillets, due to it being easier, than doing the process required for Spatchcocking, but might give it a go to see if I can.
A soft boiled egg is too much trouble?? It's a one-ingredient recipe!! :D
Yes, chicken. It was wonderful! The only drawback is a messy oven.
I have the first scissors one. It's not great but if I hold it down while sqeezing it it will bite and cut. It works fairly well like that but I am looking forward to something better like you showed.
I found the scissor types were no good for larger eggs, but worked "sort of" on smaller ones.
Regarding the first one shown, I had the plastic version for about 7 years and replaced it recently with the stainless steel model.
Quite right it was too small and discarded it. I never thought to file out the opening as was suggested.
Thanks for confirming the plastic egg topper is too small.🙂
Thanks for this video. I won't waste my money on any of them. Non of them cut the egg in the middle where it counts in order to easily scoop out the egg.
These are Egg toppers.
I don't know of anything that will split a hard boiled Egg in the middle.
If you find one, please drop back and let me know, I might do a video about it.

I believe the scissor ones are supposed to be used circularly, activating the teeth and turning along the horizontal to scratch into the shell
Thanks for the info.
I'll give it a go.
Yes, that is correct you have to press to activate the sharp teeth then turn to the left or right. Works just fine. No problem at all.
good on ya thanks
Glad you liked my video.
Nice video. But I think you used the first 2 crackers the wrong way. You should apply some pressure on the cracker, in order to not let it slip off the egg surface. I have been using the first one, the metal one, for about 5 years, without any problem. But now the spring inside is broken, and I decided to buy No. 4, see what it will bring me. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the tips!
Re the first ones being too small: I had the same problem when I first got them a few years ago, the solution is to use a half-round file to make the seat on one side of the teeth bigger so it fits further onto the egg. Just file at a 45 degree angle to avoid scaping the teeth. Voila, they are perfect! I love them and I mostly use them on uncooked eggs as a sure-fire way to avoid breaking yolks.
Thanks for sharing this fix.
I'm sure it will help those who bought one of the scissor type egg cutters.
Thanks mate great review👍
I recently bought the 2nd plastic one and it is indeed crap and destined for the recycling bin🤣 I wish I had watched this video before buying. I going to get the last spring load version 😀
Hindsight is a wonderful thing 😃
I have the 2nd one which was purchased from betterware a few years ago. It works perfectly if you put downwards pressure onto it whilst squeezing it. The way you show it, it will not work that way unless you put downward pressure onto it.
The first one works beautifully with large chicken eggs.
Thanks or that feedback.🙂
very useful! Thanks :-)
Glad my video was helpful.🙂
I’m usinf the 1st one with no problem. You’re supposed to press the tool harder into the egg.
Thanks for letting me know.
Can they be used with raw eggs
I'm not sure why you would want to top a raw egg.
But I'd expect the result would be similar to soft boiled eggs.
Thanks for the video. What is the brand of that last one?
The spring loaded egg topper I assume your referring to.
They are basically generic names, and can be found using the eBay Links Below:

Glad you took the time to comment, thanks.
What is that puck shaped thing you're boiling with the eggs?
That's an egg timer I use, it uses water temperature to determin cooking times for eggs.
ruclips.net/video/I1yHAhlB0Ak/видео.html
Can someone please tell me why you would use one if these abd what the next step is after you crack the top off the egg? Theres still pieces of broken shell along the edges. I dont understand
The eggshell is broken more constantly, so it's less likely to get egg fragments into the soft boiled egg itself.
The last one is literally the same mechanism as my most used center punch. Funny having a workshop tool in the kitchen 😆
All those work fine AFAIK, you just need to weaken the egg shell by breaking it as someone else said
Do you have any recommendations for raw eggs? I would like to retain nice egg shell for artworks
You can put a pinhole at either end of the shell and blow the yolk and egg white out through the holes.
The first type are dangerous. I had one, but the spring mechanism inside forced it's way out and shot like a bullet across the kitchen. To this day, I still haven't found where it landed. I'm lucky it didn't shoot towards my face.
Yikes, sounds like you had a lucky escape.
Glad your OK.
@@GarryPurcell Thank you. It happened so fast that I didn't fully process how lucky I actually was at first. I now got a decent spring loaded one now. I can have air fried soft boiled eggs in safety now 😂
Thanks for sharing your experience, with me.
All the best.
P.S. Don't do what I did many years ago when Microwaves first came out.
I put an egg in the microwave and took it out after 30 seconds at full power, and it exploded in my face. (Not a pleasant experience, and not to mention how much mess i had to clean up after the explosive event) 😀
@@GarryPurcell That was a lucky escape too. Unshelled microwaved eggs are time bombs. Lucky you didn't get scalded or worse.
have you tried it on raw eggs?
No.
I have a feeling it could get messy if I tried that.
Have you tried the cutters on a raw egg?
No I haven't.
Not sure if any work because you have to use the knife in the end. That's what we want.to.avoid is using the k.ife which creates shell pieces in the egg.
The egg toppers cut the shell better than any knife. So the knife is only used to cut the egg white, and lift the shell.
Non of these would work on quail eggs, you can get quail egg scissors for 1€ that do a great job. The last one, yep cuts the shell. But it is supposed to lift the shell off completely, which it doesn't do on hot/warm eggs. If you have to use a knife after, there is no point paying 10€ plus just to cut the shell. Decking mental! Please save your money.
Thank you for your comment.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and most can make up their own mind, if these gadgets are worth buying.
9
You scored my video 9 out of 10.😅
Number 1 + 2 are for small eggs I think.
I think your right.
But those egg toppers don't state that, in their online adds.
@@GarryPurcell Yes, unfortunately. Lots of lies around these products.
Why on earth do you cut the top of the egg off with a knife? You NEVER do that!! My grandmother kept doing that to my eggs when I was a kid and it was annoying! All of that egg white in the cut-off part going to waste!
You use a teaspoon to scoop out the cap.
the first one was just pushing its self off and you couldn't of used it wrong because you used it every way it can be used
I came to the conclusion, it is meant to be used on smaller eggs.
you might want to flip the egg and crack on the top side instead for all.
Thanks for that suggestion.
Made to fit Chinese eggs
Hahahaha Best Comment I've read so Far 😆
I thought these were for opening raw eggs without the risk of dropping pieces of egg shells in the omelette.
Most are for hard boiled eggs.
You used boiled eggs, but non-boiled eggs. 🤔
Soft boiled is the term you're looking for. 🙂
@@GarryPurcell Thank you, but I mean you should try it using raw egg or uncooked egg.
Exactly, the ad videos for them show raw eggs cut perfectly, but I wonder if it's trick filming!
Somehow I can't imagine a raw egg being hit with force and the shell perfectly cut with no egg spilt like on the videos.
omg, for the 1-st cutter you have to apply some pressure, not just lay the opener on the egg. I had such cutter for many years when I was young and even as a 5-year old child I had no problem with opening an egg...
The size of the egg is a determining factor, and those cutter types are better suited to smaller quail eggs.
Absolutely! I've had the first one in plastic for decades, and it works perfectly. But if you're going to rest it on the egg and swirly gently around, of course it won't work, silly!!!
dont wanna insert mine into the 1st and 2nd one
Haha.😂
I just don’t get why these are needed at all, can’t you just bash the egg on the head with the spoon? 😄😄
Toppers are suppose to give a clean cut, as opposed to jagged edges.
Thanks for the comparison but it's done without any delicacy, sir.
Interesting comment.
One needs to learn properly use the tools.
If you say so.
