It's a testament to Jim Broadbent's portrayal of Slater that, despite only appearing in three episodes, he is such a memorable character, bringing a very different, much darker dynamic to the show. All three Slater episodes are momentous in their own way, and I really wish he'd had more appearances. Slater truly is Del Boy's nemesis.

Incidentally, "pounding the beat" = "walking the pavements". The constable's "beat" was his patrol area, and policemen were proverbially heavy-footed.

When I was a kid watching this episode and I saw Trigger offered his car it made me so sad. He is such a good friend and they always make fun of him, I thought.

Could Rodney not see Del's cards from where he was sitting? Surely he noticed he had 4 aces, and would have made Rodney believe they had every chance at winning - he must have thought there is no way Boyce would also have the exact same cards, which is unlikely in itself, so he has no need for concern! Also, I find it hard to believe they had 500 quid, all that time without spending a penny - they must have ran into many life or death situations over the years, certainly the way Del lives his life, which I assume Del got around 25 years ago if it was given to him before his mum died, no way he still has all that left!
And also he would have to have gotten it out to change it when we changed from old money in 1971
Even though Del got away with it, could Slater have gone after Rodney still, he could have forced Del to give up the name or Rodney will go down, there was still a deal to be made from slater? Unless I've missed something?
Try do more of the Christmas specials. Start with Frog's Legacy, continue the 96 trilogy then finish with the 3 00s episodes 👌
