Dutch band based in symphonic metal, but use influences and elements from multiple genres. Formed in 1996 by lead singer Sharon den Adel, and her partner , guitarist Robert Westerholt. Guest George Oosthoek (Orphanage) did the harsh vocals in this concert. Robert did them on the studio version, but those are a rarity in their music. Song is from their 1997 debut album, Enter. Their 8th album, Bleed Out" was released this past fall. They have done a lot of collaborations too, including Paradise (What About Us) with Tarja. Lulu mentioned their fashion sense. Sharon has a degree in fashion design, and designs a lot of her stage outfits herself.
Ladies, this is Sharon den Adel, another Dutch singer with her symphonic Metal band,Within Temptation. She is an amazing artist who you should check out further !!
Their live performances never disappoint. I was lucky to meet and talk with Sharon briefly after a concert back in 2013. She is very friendly and down to earth, just like Floor Jansen. That's where I heard Neverending Story for the first time and it's still one of my favorite songs mainly because of the lyrics, but everything about the song is beautiful. Sharon really sings like an angel and I'm glad you also like Within Temptation.
Great reaction ladies. First time hearing this Within Temptation song for me. Loved it. You got to see a small amount of Sharon's beautiful hand dancing. As a teenager she live in Indonesia for a few years (her Dad was a Dutch Diplomat stationed there) and modeled her hand moves after Balinese hand dancing that she saw. Lulu is spot on about Sharon's outfits although this one is pretty tame compared to most of them. Sharon has a degree in fashion design and creates most of her outfits for the band. I would recommend the official music video for Ice Queen next. There are lots great live versions but I prefer the music video because it has lots of her hand dancing as well as a gorgeous outfit. Also love her duet with Anneke van Giesbergen live from the Black Symphony concert. Most beautiful duet ever with incredible harmonies between the two ladies.
Just a little correction is needed. Sharon didn't live in Indonesia as a teenager, she lived there from when she was about 18 months old until she about 6 or 7. After that she lived in Yemen and then in Suriname before the family moved back to Netherlands when she was about 11. She lived all of her teenage years in Netherlands. Find some interviews with her and watch them, you will find out all the true facts about her that way.
Hi there great reaction again I'd love to see your reaction to the whole Black Symphony live concert, just take it on song at a time Greetings from Sweden
Another top singer from the Netherlands. Floor, Sharon, Simone (Epica) are exceptional vocalists. Another one to check out is Anneke van Giersbergen. In the past she sang in The Gathering. Look at their song Strange Machines at PinkPop festival. also a banger.
Wow, the last time I saw Within Temptation in a spectacular live concert with full symphony orchestra was "Black Symphony" in 2008. I was not aware of this one!!! I've gotta hear the whole thing now! Thank for doing this one! 🥰
My country does pretty good in the symphonic metal genre. Floor from Nightwish, Within Temptation. The Gathering. Epica. Four female metal queens. I always really liked Within Temptation's song 'Angels'.
Great reaction, ladies! Happy to see you listening to more Symphonic Metal. I never knew it was a music genre until a couple years ago. Now, it is one of my favorite styles.
Sharon had no singing training at the beginning. She made up for it after her first successes and today she sings much deeper and more relaxed. Together with Nightwish they are considered to be the initiators of the symphonic metal subgenre. There were other bands before, but they were the first to achieve their commercial breakthrough and were able to gather other bands around them. While Nigtwish focuses more on classical and Celtic folk, Within Temptation focuses on pop. Here is a current single: Within Temptation - Bleed Out (official music video)
Wow, what a song to choose as your first exposure to them! I highly recommend their songs "Angels" and "Faster". Brilliant songs. The lead singer, Sharon den Adel, also did a massively popular song with Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren, the song is "In And Out Of Love", the video has 301 million views on RUclips, it's one of the anthems from the Trance & Progressive genre.
Another great song to react to as a lot of others you reacted to. It seems to me (and I could be dead wrong here), that you have quite some love for great vocals. If that is the case I would humbly suggest another video, which would be quite different from what you have reacted to so far. Agnus Dei in my opinion is one of the most emotional pieces of music ever written and a performance by an orchestra is amazing. My recommendation (Agnus Dei - Samuel Barber LIVE by Vlaams radiokoor) is taking it to the next level as it is vocal only. It might not be a big hit with the youtube audience, but I think you will enjoy it and maybe feel it for some days after listening. If you ever seen the movie Platoon, you will recognize it immediately, they used it and very well I have to say. Wish you all the best and tons of fun doing these videos and exploring music.
I'm almost certain you're going to love Within Temptation's ' Ice Queen.' Great reaction ladies & cheers from tha Dutch Nation :) (and since Donna .loves the harsh vocals; try another Dutch metal band Epica (the sometimes perform together with Floor) The best thing is all these Dutch bands and metal queens are so incredibly nice and down-to-earth. Angelic vocals mixed with humility. It takes a cold, dark heart not to like these wonderful creatures.
In my eyes this is one of three I call "The three sirens of Avalon" You got Floor Jansen from Nightwish, Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation and the last ( which you haven't checked out yet hint, hint) Simone Simons of Epica. But that's just me you guys make your oun conclusion. Once again great reaction. There's alot more of Within Temptation you need to explore!🎼🌹🌹🌹
So glad you reviewed Within Temptation. Their live performances are absolutely awesome and several official music videos are cinematic in scope. Videos for Bleed Out (Sharon's response to the woman who died under mysterious circumstance following her refusal to wear a hijab in Iran) and Wireless (the band's response to military indoctrination and state run propaganda) are both AI generated. The video you played here is from their 15 year anniversary show and has numerous memorable performances including Iron, In The Middle of the Night, Titanium, Mother Earth. Other live videos from other concerts include Hand Of Sorrow, Somewhere, Ice Queen. I hope you have the opportunity to review more of their great music. My son introduced me to them and I have now introduced my grandson to them so we are 3 generation fans!!
This is great choise for a reaction! nice to see you reacting to WT. Welcome to WT world! :))) i suggest you another banger song, The Other Half of Me by Within Temptation!!! (Especially The Silent Tour Version)
Within Temptation are, alongside Nightwish, the grandaddies (grandmommies?) of that subset of symphonic metal once referred to as "female operatic metal" (self-explanatory label, right?). Both bands debuted in 1997, a whole six years before Evanescence - which is why certain die-hards get upset if you say either band "sounds like Evanescence", as I suppose you have noticed during your Nightwish reactions 🙂And to this day, even with the European scene overflowing with similar successors - Epica, Edenbridge, Visions of Atlantis, Amberian Dawn, Xandria, Eleine etc. etc. - Within Temptation and above all Nightwish remain the biggest behemoths of the genre by far. I have recently discovered a talented American act of the same sort, Everdawn, that is well worth checking out 🙂 The combination of lovely female vocals and growling male vocals is, understandably, known as "the Beauty and the Beast" vocals, and was popularized in the second half of the 90s by Norwegian goth metal legends Theatre of Tragedy and Italian dito Lacuna Coil - though only the latter of the two acts maintains this stylistic grip to this day. In the case of Within Temptation, the male growl used to be provided by guitarist Robert Westerholt, but these days he does not appear on stage even though he remains the band's creative force alongside his wife/the band's lead singer Sharon den Adel. And why? Because Robert is a stay at home dad, who takes care of the children while his wife is on tour 🙂
The link I sent was set to start right at the song when they played it during the 90 minute concert. I wasn't trying to sneak in a whole concert ;) The link I sent had better sound (this video is distorted), but you found the right show which was important. Nice reaction, though. George was a guest vocalist. He has collaborated with them on a few songs.
If the lead singer is a Dutch female you can't go wrong: Floor, Simone Simons, Anneke van Giersbergen, Sharon den Adel, Charlotte Wessels, Dianne van Giersbergen, Irene Jansen.
This is Gothic metal, not Symphonic metal. Not yet. Within Temptation started in 1996 as a Doom/Gothic metal band and this song is from that period. With their third and breakthrough album ‘Mother Earth’ they changed their musical style to Symphonic metal and left the growls behind them. Nowadays they are more power metal oriented. Sharon’s husband Robert, with whom she founded the band, played the rythm guitar and did the growling vocals in the beginning. Together they write all the music for the band. Nowadays Robert is no longer a touring band member since he takes care of their children at home. George Oosthoek (Orphanage) has often done guest vocals with Within Temptation live shows. His gutteral vocals are the best!
this has always been the song that hit home for me since I discovered this band this song to me is that flame in the night!...It's called Faster... ruclips.net/video/iQVei5C2N4E/видео.html
Great reaction to one of my favourites from WT. If you haven't listened to this, give it a go ... ruclips.net/video/nNdLYM1JSmQ/видео.htmlfeature=shared The song is called Enter and the best versions are live. It's great to hear three generations opinions and happy that newer generations are exposed to this as a result 👌

Ooh the gothic metal old times of Within Temptation❤
the new songs are amazing😁
Sharon’s voice is pure ear candy! Cheers to her and the band!

I am proud of you three, musical adventurers with no fear.
Wow, the last time I saw Within Temptation in a spectacular live concert with full symphony orchestra was "Black Symphony" in 2008. I was not aware of this one!!! I've gotta hear the whole thing now! Thank for doing this one! 🥰
Lulu called it. Sharon designs her own outfits. Donna was also correct. George was a guest singer for this song.
We have been lucky enough to see Within Temptation 5 times now and can't wait to see them again. They have a great show
You should definitely check out the song that Within Temptation did with Tarja Turunen called what about us. It’s amazing and very powerful.
My country does pretty good in the symphonic metal genre. Floor from Nightwish, Within Temptation. The Gathering. Epica. Four female metal queens. I always really liked Within Temptation's song 'Angels'.
And Zora Cock. And Charlotte Wessels.

Within Temptation is the second symphonic metal band to be formed. The first symphonic metal band is Knightwish. Both bands are great.

The Dutch rollercoaster is on track! I've seen them 3x life (1x before Rammstein). Glad you like them
Got my ticket to see these guys at Leeds arena here in UK in November, really looking forward to it.
If you like Within Temptation you should defenitly see Within Temptation - What Have You Done ft. Keith Caputo.
Check out Delain another great Dutch band, I literally like every song of theirs.

The song is called Enter and the best versions are live. It's great to hear three generations opinions and happy that newer generations are exposed to this as a result 👌
Not the easiest song to start with.
Within Temptation have so many better songs and more mainstream than this. A better introduction to Within Temptation would be “ What Have You Done.”
Sharon den Adel and Within Temptation R O C K ! !. Don't know what is about Dutch women singers but holy smokes they're good
