@@dpconcept8553 not a good idea to not prime the filter. Starving the high pressure fuel pump of fuel is also starving it of lubrication. If you have a BMW scan tool (Schwaben/Foxwell NT510 or similar), you can activate the in tank pump to prime the filter.
Still not as bad as having to remove the entire right front fender (body panel) just to change the battery like you have to do for the Pontiac Soltice or the Saturn Sky.
100%. The 100 screws needing removed is 1 thing, but the fact they didn't use an easy-in/easy-out filter setup (as in cartridge type like is used for the oil filter), is inexcusable. Terrible engineering here by BMW. I've owned numerous turbo diesel pickup trucks & non of them required 1/10th the time / effort it takes to do this job. This is a gift to dealers. It's not that it's technically hard, it's that the length of time it takes to do a fairly routine maintenance item is way too long & the filter setup is unnecessarily crude & beneath German engineering.
@@loseerich493 I have had 3 tdi before my x5 and the fuel filter change was so simple. This is a very stupid and unnecessarily complicated job. I wanted to just let a local shop change this for me and they wanted CDN 150 for labor...
Thanks for showing. Probably should keep my mouth shut, but feel compelled to say the soundtrack you chose is plain horrible for what is supposed to be a teaching mechanical video. Maybe appropriate of some sinister desolation, that's about it. Bayerische Motoren Werke would not approve ! Neither would they approve of not priming the filter before firing up. : (
Thanks for the video. It might be better to check for leaks during a short test drive before you replace the covers so you can see any leaks.
Perhaps start the car before putting all the panels back, check for leaks and only if no leaks put the panel back on ?
Great idea 😃
Shouldn't you check leaks before replacing the panels?
driver side Europe or UK? Thanks
Check for leaks before fitting all the covers. Edit : and then read the many comments saying the same😊
Do you have to prime filter or release any air?
M C no need of any tricks, just follow the steps shown in the video and you be fine .
Good luck 👍

I followed this and I guess because I didn’t prime the filter the car takes multiple cranks to start.
@@manicbikesandcars6909 It takes or took multiple cranks to start?
@@arfetherussian for the first time it will take 2 or 3 attempts to start and then subsequent starts will be normal.
Nice work! May I ask if this technique is the same for 2013 X5 Diesel? Thanks in advance!
This is the diesel.
You fuckin idiot read the title
Is the guide the same for 2008/2009 E70 gas 3.0?
Electric guns are nice
I can’t believe anyone would do all of that without power tools
What a completely ignorantly unbelievable comment.
@@93dakman For real what the fuck everyone is complaining how many screws and all for fuck's sake this such an easy job
The fuck kind of stupid ass comment is this? Removing 8mm screws with power tools? What an idiot
Which side is it located
Left
My gad it's a pain in the ass to change this filter you have to unscrew like 100 screws to get it out
Yikes you complain at removing basic 8mm screws?

Lolll I was gonna say the same. Had to mute the sound.
