My mother taught me that when one part of the sleeve is shorter you put the short piece over your hand then put the larger piece over that. Because it is over your fingers the bigger piece will ease over the shorted piece. Use straight pins.

Put a couple of small elastic tubes on the back to draw it up to the our waist in the back I bet that would look purdy!! 🤗💚
I think the pattern pieces are for interfacing. It helps the collar and button areas lay flatter and makes the button part stronger.
