Pretty much all of it revolves around Rhaenyra and Daemon and both of those are Viserys’ fault. He killed his wife because he wanted a son to replace Daemon as heir. Then he made Rhaenyra heir hoping the daemon problem would solve itself, but instead Rhaenyra turned out to be a whore who is sullying the honor of their house and making him lose respect. Even the king right before Viserys, the old king named Jahaerys would’ve disinherited Rhaenyra and imprisoned Daemon in a heartbeat because he wasn’t a fuckin dumbass like Viserys is.

I don't know why this guy is struggling so much with the idea that Cole was in love. Love is not always clean or pure. People do fucked up things all the time out of love and related emotions like jealousy, etc.
The way I see it Cole just lost it......The way he so easily confessed to Alicent and asked for death is very telling of how he took Rhaeneyras 'rejection'.....He not only lost Rhaeneyra but also lost his honour as a Kingsguard which he clearly holds dearly......
@@rupinderjeetsinghhans The guy who made that comment is his brother Larys clubfoot strong. The brothers are important players for setting up the dance, you saw a little bit of it with Larys talking to Alicent in the garden.
The entire wedding I was so anxious and nervous knowing something would happen. Every time there is a wedding in this show I know something will happen but I did not expect that
Rhaenyra and Daemons scene was so fire. So much chemistry!! Look at the lives saved it they’d have run off. Or been allowed to marry in the first place!
I think Cole’s sense of honor was flipped on its head. Laenor’s lover is the antithesis of everything Cole stands for. The vows he’s taken mean nothing to him, while Cole’s vows meant everything to him. It’s a whole complex of reasons (love, loss of honor, unraveling sense of identity). He exploded, and Joffrey was his trigger.
Joffrey doesn't have vows of chastity??? He was just ribbing him about, "hey, welcome to the club, I'm laenor's boyfriend, how you doing boo?" He did nothing wrong omgggg
What a shallow and inaccurate analysis. Remember Laenor's boyfriend told him that they should guard the secrets of their lovers. Ser Criston followed his advice. He killed the BF and then tried to suicide to guard those secrets.
What Achara was saying makes complete sense! Sometimes love or an idea of love will make someone act irrationally even to the point of murdering someone else who would besmirch their lover’s name%
"a good man" mmm yea sure, Criston is a piece of work. He reacted out of a combination of things but this is him without the white cloak, this is probably what he was like during the war hes fought as well.
I loved the episode, the wedding theme which begins with Daemon ending his marriage by blood ( I rewatched the episode I feel like she falls on her own trying to surprise Daemon with her bow, tell me if i'm wrong ), and it ends with the marriage of Rhaenyra by blood.
I think he just startled the horse (maybe he even smelled dragon scent on him or something like that) while she went for the bow, therefore not holding on properly. She was not trying to surprise him, it was clearly well known fact that she's a good hunter. His only chance was to get as close as possible without provoking her to attack first (and still ideally make it look like an accident).
I love Lyonel, how he's always looking to the king to make sure everything is ok and will work out fine, ready to jump to actions but not to cut the king. Such a good hand
My favourite episode so far and u love the fact that it feels like GoT but its still different and has its own style it works so well whereas other shows wouldn't be able to pull this off George rr martin is an amazing man
I got chills when alicent came out in the green dress because that is very significant, and after seeing the promo for next week it looks like we're finally getting to the meat of the story.
14:16 You skipped the bit about the importance of the Green dress. One side has planted their flag. Team Green is here to be seen. Now we must wait to see if in response Team Black is formed. 24:50 You better watch out Jaby. There's a lot of Daemon stans simping over him and they are gonna be coming for you.
I don't think Jaby has to worry about much. Simps of a wife-murdering niece-fucker don't really have a leg to stand on. If they can't see why anyone would hate Daemon, they're delusional lmao
Ser kristen is emotionally unstable which can trigger him to do nasty things. Usually the quiet ones are dangerous. I wonder if this series will show his backstory after his role as a squire
"she broke a good man" he's a grown ass man sworn to protect her who chose to take her virginity, which DOES put her in danger too within a patriarchal society, nobility or not. More than catching feelings, he was trying to restore his own honor by marrying her. He even says it when he gets angry, he soiled his cloak, that's the pressing issue, not that she doesn't love him.
How is cole not punished for striking laenor ? That’s the part in the scene that makes no sense that he wasn’t attacked by the guards for doing that is a kind of weird thing. Attacking Joffrey is different from striking the prince consort .
Yeah, it doesn't sound right to me too, expecially because there were other armed people in the room. Perhaps, it's beacause he's a white cloack. I'm more surprised Viserys didn't give the order to stop it as soon as it started, but he was feeling sick, so...
He isn't anything yet regardless, normal guards don't have the authority to do anything to the Knights of the Kingsguard and in that chaos, I doubt anyone saw jackshit let alone Cole punching Leaner once.

The crazy things people do in the name of love (Sir Criston Cole). Joffrey picked the wrong dog to bark on. Going to really miss Milly (Young Rhaenyra) and Emily (Young Alicent) for they really did a beyond fantastic job building the foundation up to this point.
What was the very FIRST thing that started the violence? There was a scream and a crowd of struggle, but we never saw what that initiating event was. What a great episode!
Ser Criston Cole was fixating on this moment he and Rhaenyra had last episode the entire time and there is no way to help him out of this situation. He dishonored his vow of chastity and in his mind soiled his honour for Rhaenyra who would like to keep him as her paramour but there's no future in that relationship and he knows it at this point. I don't think he has it in him to pretend that he's a virtuous knight but being named Kingsguard is a pretty big deal, the greatest honour bestowed upon a member of House Cole and so he feels everything is ruined. Noone else knows of this but he himself does and that's what is creating problems. Then when Joffrey Lonmouth made allusions to the fact that he figured out what had likely transpired (without any malicious intent mind you), Ser Criston Cole killed him because of the rage at his situation that he feels. When he suggested to Rhaenyra that they run off it definitely felt like the last hope of a desperate man who has trouble living with himself as he is now. Someone like Jaime Lannister takes his dishonour in strides because he considers that the vows don't mean much because you're breaking one vow to uphold another but Ser Criston does not see it that way and it's driving him to do terrible things. I shall note that Alicent does not punish him and is there for him when he is at his lowest point so at least he might feel that she does not judge him for what he did, even if I am sure that it's not just compassion that is keeping Alicent from revealing his secret at this point.
I'm extremely nervous for the next episode when Milly Alcock isn't Rhaenyra anymore. The chemistry between her and Daemon is working so well, I'm not sure it will still work the same with someone else playing her all of a sudden.
Alicent isn't a prude. She got mad because Rhaenyra lied to her face about that night and got her father dismissed as Hand despite having done nothing wrong, and since her father told her that she can't trust Rhaenyra and she'll kill Alicent's children to secure her own claim to the Iron Throne and that of her children, she now thinks her father may be right and for all their vaunted friendship and love for each other, she can't trust Rhaenyra's word that she would never kill her friend Alicent's kids, who are her own half-siblings, in the future. She basically learned that Rhaenyra is not who Alicent thought she was, and the implications for her and her children's future are very worrying. She doesn't know for a fact Rhaenyra would stoop so low, but she now fears she might and she has to protect herself and her kids.
Probably it's too soon to mention this, but this show is a way much better definition of "Game of Thrones" and dirty politics, than the OG show. Surprisingly I'm feeling that maybe I'm even liking it more than GOT.
@@lgt_jne Yeah that wasnt set up well at all. Why in the hell would she do that? Yeah she talks about being free and all that but she has never rejected her title as heir. Criston knows she always intended to sit the throne, where did he get the feeling that she would downgrade from queen to be.
the best part was the hand's son saying what colour does the tower burn when oldtown calls its banners to war? this episode is oddly reminiscent of the throneroom scene between varys and littlefinger, you see the cunning twisted characters, the manipulators come out of the background and the innocent characters get broken. OG GOT vibe very excited
I actually don't think Ser Criston loves Rhaenyra. Imo he asked for her to marry him as a way to regain what honor he had left, after she made him break his vows last ep. And then in his mind, Alicent, Joffrey, and who knows all know he sullied his cloak, leading to that outburst. Super tragic!
Totally agree, I think he probably was infatuated with Rhaenyra to a certain extent but not in love. He felt his "dishonor" more steeply than any rejection from Rhaenyra.
it can be both. He values his honor, someone who came from nothing, he values that title of kings guard. But also, he loves her too. From what I understood, his thought process was to eliminate both himself and the king consorts lover. I think his morality forces him to make the honorable choice as per the rules of the realm. He respects the notion of marriage and didn't want someone he loves be involved in an act of infidelity. Maybe I'm overreaching here, but we do know that he takes his duty seriously, and he really doesn't want to leave Rhaenyra's side. He would have left the duty as a kings guard post return to kings landing if that were true, his love for her kept him there as he was sworn to protect her.
That was calculated. Remember Laenor's boyfriend told him that they should guard the secrets of their lovers. Ser Criston followed his advice. He killed the BF and then tried to suicide to guard those secrets.
I mean, Ser Criston was basically getting blackmailed for the rest of his entire life on top of being extremely upset about his situation, and it turned explosive. And I think the new hand (Lyonel I think), is working with Otto as a man on the inside to get Alicents kid to be King. It was his son who basically told Alicent that the King gave her the tea and believes she banged and unjustly fired her father, so now everyone will turn on the king.
Remember Laenor's boyfriend told him that they should guard the secrets of their lovers. Ser Criston followed his advice. He killed the BF and then tried to suicide to guard those secrets.
I don't think we can put all the blame on Rhae. She's desperate to prove herself because no one wants to see a girl be queen, so took her uncle's silly advice that she can do her duty but take what she wants as well, as though that would have no consequence. I think she feels for Criston, but he feels like he spoilt his oath for nothing and was taunted by the idea of people knowing his secret.

damn the whole character arc of Ser Criston Cole is lost on Jaby :))) it's been established from his very first appearance that Ser Criston is someone who fights battles, not someone who plays games. So when Ser Laenor's lover came to him with a semi-threat of his secret, basically forcing him into the game, and Ser Criston was already under the tremendous amount of stress and guilt and heartbroke, you think he wouldn't spiral out of control and kill the guy? not advocating murder but that was the logical way for his character to go
I think Ser Jeffery meant well. Just trying to make sure Criston was chill since they were both fucking the royal couple. It's just that Criston was under so much pressure and paranoia that he took it as a threat
@@xainreaper6458 Ser Joffery thought it was a casual deal where Ser Criston Cole considered it casual blackmail and impingement on his honour and that means death.
@@xainreaper6458 I think it's also because of the different types of characters that ser criston and ser joffrey are. ser joffrey probably assumed that ser criston would be a player of the game and had agreed to be rhaenyera's secret lover, like he was to ser laenor. damn he probably thought he found an ally or some friend who would be in a similar situation. little did ser joffrey know ser criston wanted no part of the complicated politicking, was honest and honored to a fault, had been depressed as hell, egged to his limit by several people this episode and was ready to kill himself by the end of it. so of course ser joffrey's words came across as a thinly-veiled threat and the final straw for him. in that regard, ser joffrey was incredibly unlucky, or stupid, for making that assumption.
@@MrBrock314 I swear half of Criston's problems disappears if people just talk to him straight. Alicent: "Hey. Big C. Did Rhaenyra fuck Daemon?" Criston: "Don't think so." Alicent: "Aight cool." I like your theory about Lyonel Strong (the hand) maybe playing the long con. Ser Harwin was the knight that caught Rhae in Flea Bottom and let her go. No mention of this was ever made. You see the hand nod to him during the fight to save Rhae. And Larys Strong is the impaired lord that visited Alicent and told her about the tea. They are both the hand's sons. Not a book reader, but to me, you could be right about Strong playing the long game, or Larys is setting this up behind the scenes because as a cripple and 2nd son, he would not inherit much. So he's betraying his family's allegiance to Rhae in favor of Alicent's son. Super excited.

Viserys is such a Good King. He can't tolerate what is happening around him Fight for the Throne , Doubt on Daughter Character , Putting out his favourite Otto Hightower out of Kings Landing , Arranging Marriage for His Daughter to strengthen the Kingdom , His wife Silent behaviour , etc
I think Sir Criston killed the guy because he basically threatened to expose not only him but Rhaenyra if they didn't help maintain their own secret. The dick-tap was more of a gloating move as if to say "See, now you're going to do as you're told or else". So I think killing him was out of desperation and fear for Rhaenyra's safety but then it exploded out with anger and frustration from everything that has happened to him. Whether he loved her or not, his duty was to protect her and he did
Everyone is mad at Ser Cristen for dry snitching on himself but they forget that he didn't know about Daemon. If Alicent had said she heard a rumor about Daemon being with Rhaenrya, Cristen would have just denied it and that would have been the end of that. As far as Ser Lyonel Strong goes, he got the Hand position because he kept giving Viserys good advice. If anyone should be accused of poisoning Viserys, it would be House Hightower and the maestors because they are both based in Oldtown.
I think that as much as ser criston was very emotional, i think that Ser Joffrey’s and his conversation made him realize that too many ppl knew about him and the princess. He can’t kill ser laenor or the queen because that would be severely punished, but he did the next best thing and eliminated a person that could have ruined the princess’ reputation…..idk I’m reaching!!! The fact that this random guy just came out of nowhere telling him that he knows this life-threatening secret, in a coy and smug manner, pushed him over the edge.
The red head dude should have kept his mouth shut. He was an idiot for provoking Cole. He pretty much threatened him by saying that he knew his secret and had something over him. He was an idiot for that. Could've been completely avoided by just keeping his mouth shut.
Cole is a fanatic in his beliefs. He will turn completely. Emotions guide him - pride, grief, rage, revenge. Not a guy who stops to think befire he acts.
From what I gather, See Criston will be loyal to the Queen now because he felt violated and used by Rhaenyra. Can't wait for the next episode. Will be more intense and bloody like GOT!
Otto was the one who enlisted the help of the maesters to slowly kill off the king...whereas the new hand offered a "better" herbal medicine and was snubbed by one of the maesters.
Ser Criston was probably in edge in this episode. He felt shamed...lost his honour, his love and compassion. Man pressed the wrong button and he put it out on him ..
Otto hightower is telling her the truth if you don't seize the throne her children and her will die because there can't be alternate claimants to the throne
Daemon is one of those characters that you can't really hate but like him more of less. I liked him less in this episode but can't really hate him as well. Even though it's HOTD, it's still a GoT after all.
I think Jaby may be underestimating the degree to which Joffrey's little "conversation" with Cole affected him. Joffrey was not subtle. It was a near-overt threat of blackmail and further disgrace, an attempt to extort silence and protection of Cole's status as the Princess's lover (which no longer exists and which Cole feels rage and disgrace about). Joffrey also thought he could threaten Cole into protecting his OWN relationship with Laenor. All of this was a huge mistake by Joffrey, who comes off as a rather amateurish schemer. He thinks he's dealing with someone like himself - someone cynical about courtly honor and customs, who views them as obstacles to be navigated in order to live his life. In fact Joffrey's dealing with someone who takes those things deathly seriously (Cole), and who is at rock bottom and completely lost because he feels he has abandoned every principle he once had. Joffrey then tries to blackmail this person, not realizing that Cole has already confessed his secret to the queen, and is no longer Rhaenyra's lover, and feels disgust at the memory of the fact that he was. Cole, already highly emotional, feeling completely lost and full of rage and self-loathing, is then threatened by this guy who actually has very little leverage over him, and from Cole's perspective would seem to be an arrogant, spoiled, foppish, decadent, and unserious man. Que Cole beating Joffrey to death in a fit of rage. Morally repugnant, but it makes perfect sense once you understand Cole's emotional state and worldview.
I believe the reason ser Criston beat the guy to death is because he knew his secret; if he were to be left alive, he'd laud that over the Princess and himself. It was like a slight blackmail. In my opinion, Criston's action was to protect the princess's dignity AND the authenticity of the Crown.
What's interesting is I think if Rhaeneyra had received the type of offer Cole gave a few yrs ago she may have seriously considered it. The kind of offer he gave was once her dream. However too much time has passed. She is heir of the realm and must consider not only herself but what was good for the kingdom. Cole's offer simply came too late. Rhaeneyra tried to explain it to him and make him realise that the throne was bigger than her and even her family. She was trying to explain to him why a Targaryen must be one the throne without actually sharing her family secret. She had a duty to the kingdom. Cole wasn't raised like this and he doesn't understand. He also has forsaken his vows to be with her so he feels used which is true even though he had ample time to say no. So even if though the arrangement she made was so she could be with him and still perform her duty as princess it's not good enough. I think this scene is the perfect depiction of how one's class and upbringing can affect one's perspective. For Cole, his vows are everything because he has nothing beyond that. For Rhaeneyra, her duty as heir is everything because a Targaryen must sit on the throne so the realm can avoid destruction. I wonder if she ever shared with her own heir this knowledge of their duty.
Marrying Laenor no one would question her virtue, it’s a smart move as she knew when she was given the choice to wed him, she obviously knew of his orientation anyway.
A little note all the maesters(Doctors in the show) all come from and learn in Old town which is ruled and funded by the Hightowers. Also you might want to think about the scene when Viserys is getting treatment and the senior doctor regrets a younger doctors remedy to help Viserys better and then told him to give him a drink to ease his suffering.
As Emergency Awesome pointed out, Viserys is dying of leprosy which is incurable at the time of the events of this story. Nothing the maesters are doing is helping or hurting on purpose. They couldn't save him if they wanted to.

I loved the episode, the wedding theme which begins with Daemon ending his marriage by blood ( I rewatched the episode I feel like she falls on her own trying to surprise Daemon with her bow, tell me if i'm wrong ), and it ends with the marriage of Rhaenyra by blood.
He did something to the horse. The whole horse fell on her. She was probably taking her bow for protection.
Loved the way Daemon grabbed Rhaenyra's face in the middle and the way they converse in Valyrian. They have a fiery chemistry.
I love Lyonel, how he's always looking to the king to make sure everything is ok and will work out fine, ready to jump to actions but not to cut the king. Such a good hand

How is cole not punished for striking laenor ? That’s the part in the scene that makes no sense that he wasn’t attacked by the guards for doing that is a kind of weird thing. Attacking Joffrey is different from striking the prince consort .

It was an incredibly intense episode and I loved it!
16:58 Jaby says ser joffrey is dangerous.
Joffrey : dies 10 mins. Later
😂😂😂
Fabien absolutely killed it! That explosive rage!

I think he broke his vows because he was already in love with her.
it can be both.
He loved her, but rhaenyre doesn't. He's like church boy got good laid then all he can see is love and fairy tale
I mean, Ser Criston was basically getting blackmailed for the rest of his entire life on top of being extremely upset about his situation, and it turned explosive. And I think the new hand (Lyonel I think), is working with Otto as a man on the inside to get Alicents kid to be King. It was his son who basically told Alicent that the King gave her the tea and believes she banged and unjustly fired her father, so now everyone will turn on the king.
i doubt that. his son Larys is master of whispers so he’s just doing his “job” i feel. Lyonel sincerely cares for the king imo
Remember Laenor's boyfriend told him that they should guard the secrets of their lovers. Ser Criston followed his advice. He killed the BF and then tried to suicide to guard those secrets.

Well u know nothing about larys.

I like your theory about Lyonel Strong (the hand) maybe playing the long con.

Lmao I love how they built up to his imminent death but he's literally in the preview for next episode, which is after a major time skip.
@@MrBrock314 EA is one of the worst sources out there for anything. They won’t have that scene in if it didn’t mean anything. And some book readers have said after Mellos passed someone else came in and during that time his condition improved drastically
Poor Criston. Also Daemon I think is impotent cuz there is a lot of hints towards that if you pay attention but we'll see if the show will really point it out.
If you are named Joffery never go to a weeding
I think Criston did not want to be blackmailed by some random guy. Criston already felt horrible about doing the dishonorable act. I don’t think Criston should have killer him though. He was filled with rage
