- Cheap rifles - are they worth it? Tim Pilbeam says yes, as long as you look out for a few key aspects of the rifle you want to buy. He talks through the possible pitfalls in a cheap rifle. Meanwhile, the Jack Pyke Pro Sporting clayshoot attracted 800 people last week. That's an incredible figure for a shoot that isn't a major classic. What's the secret of its success? We meet up with shooters including Andy Crow to find out. News Stump has a poaching case and more anti action, while wild boar lead the charge on Hunting RUclips. It's essential weekly viewing: #FieldsportsBritain

Great show. Tim's report was excellent...and fun to watch...him chewing the cud.
Might ye do a video on optics with the same concept of a cheap optics buyers guide would go well with this video ?
Only one step in that guide:
1. Don't
Honestly, spend what you can on an optic or get good with iron sights.
SWEmanque I agree to put as much as you can into a good optic just thinking to make a video on some good picks on the lower end of the budget
Don't go with hawke. That's my advice. 2 scopes broken 1 looses zero on a .22 air rifle, other has had the elevation turret gone completely mushy.
I had one of these in 223 Rem and the factory extractor blew off in 3 shots and ruined a hunting trip. Now have a tikka t3x and love it !
Ryan Porter Ya tikka you can't go wrong with them. I got a 270wsm in SS for 650$ Canadian. First 3 shots with cheap fusion ammo, where at .6 moa. Best rifles for the price out there. Plus it's rare to hear about getting a lemon rifle, compared to Remington, etc. If I buy a rifle. I don't want to be hoping I got one that the guys making them put it together in a rush on a Friday afternoon.
I don't know if this was mentioned but it can be overlooked as well are the scope rings and mount. Don't be cheap on those either. Thanks for the video.
A cheap sight on a bow is a false economy too 😆
A fun and interesting show. ....very enjoyable.
hello u done bigger rifle caliber kits deals, how bout did one on 22lr kit deals or 17 kit deals? coz always give good fair opinon.keep up gd work🖒
Seems like you read the comments Charlie, i mentioned the Ruger 30-06 American when Tim mentioned the 3K rifle was a working mans rifle and i rip it up him. 😁 in the nicest possible way of course. Also, my wife wants to know why
Worzel Gummidge is hosting Fieldsports this week......... 😜 time for a mop chop me thinks!. Cheers Moose.
This week Charlie's stylist is on holiday so we brought in "Crazy Meg" who was allowed out on a day release..he'll go through the normal grooming process for next week. D
Wish we could use moderators here in Australia, that really tamed a 22 250 !
Can't go wrong with Jack Pyke!
Can I have your opinion please, I tried partisan through my Howa .223 stainless which I use for foxes, and got three primers pierced, is this an ammunition fault or the mechanics of the rifle, is there a particular ammunition that suits Howa? I would appreciate any help you can give me, I have owned the rifle from new and it was put together by dealer and set up with laser bullet!
I find Tim's assessment of cheap rifles is dead on target! The Ruger
American (or in my case the Savage Axis) are inexpensive tools that do
the job they were designed for. I'm not a paper puncher. I use my 223 to
put down the coyotes harassing my livestock. A solid head shot at
100yds and a heart and lung shot at 200yds with 1MOA is almost
guaranteed.
great show again
Must agree, Jack Pyke is good quality kit.
I picked up a savage axis a few years back it's been a very accurate and deadly rifle for 275 bucks I couldn't ask for more
275 bucks mate? wow, that is a bargain. I will look into that. I am running a Ruger American 30-06 i paid 700 AUD for it, love it to be honest. Cheers Moose.
MOOSEDOWNUNDER it's a 7mm08 and yeah I'm not a big fan of the stock but it shoots great
MOOSEDOWNUNDER I have two Savage Axis rifles. $269 each. One in .223 and one in .22-250. They are good affordable and accurate rifles. I liked the .22-250 so much I got one in .223. I put a Boyds CNC machined laminate tight fitting stock on the .22-250 and it shoots awesome. I left the .223 a factory plastic stock rifle but I did some work to improve the stock with an aluminum brace in the forestock and epoxy bed the action area. The strengthening and tight fit stock modifications and good ammo should improve bullet groups. The Axis shoots better than I can and there are plenty of videos on its good out of the box accuracy. They are hunter accurate out of the box but I would not call them precision accurate out of the box and that has to do with the trigger and the stock. I also did a DYI trigger job on both rilfes that initially had six to seven pound trigger pulls. The .22-250 is now about four pounds pull and the .223 is now about three pounds pull. As with most rifles, the better quality the ammo is the better it will shoot.
Axis .22-250. Nikon Buckmasters 2 4-12x40mm BDC reticle scope. 1 in 12 twist barrel.

I know that the best scope objective lenses in low light conditions will be 32mm and above. The larger the better. I just settle on the magnification factors for the intended ranges I plan on shooting the rifle and the rifle caliber's "effective" accurate range. That is how I pick a scope for a particular rifle.
This was a good video on the Axis.

Update. I ended up putting a Boyds CNC machined stock on the Axis .223. It is now capable of one inch groups at 100 yards with factory ammo. Probably even better with handloads.

Nice video
Cheers again guys 👍😉
I bought my Remington 770 for $275
You guys in Europe are getting screwed. They only cost about $300 in the US. I don't know if I'd pay that for an American Rifle
Indeed, I feel sorry for the poor limeys, thinking 600 pounds for a rifle is cheap. At least they can make up for it with suppressors though.
Stormin' Moorman yeah even in Aus you can get this for around 550.. definitely a closer conversion
A six pound trigger is rubbish.
Man am I currently glad to be an American
1 moa is shit, these days if you cant get .5 moa dont buy it
