    Nice video! I just bought the same thing only in black. And you may have realized, that cage is supposed to be higher up, the pins on the bottom snap into the holes on the side. You should be able to open the door without taking off the wire cage, I had to look at the owners manual to figure it out LOL. I'm gonna go out in my garage and fire mine up for the first time right now!

    With my unit I've found that you want the electric ignitor to just touch the top of the wick and it will light right up. You are probably doing what most people do, myself included, and have it hitting lower on the wick so it just sits there and smokes. It's why I prefer the ones that lift the burner up for you as you press in the ignitor button so you can turn the knob at the same time to line it up with the wick.

    Just picked up a 10000 btu Radiant Kerosene heater. Last winter, here in the Catskills, we had power outage after power outage and nearly froze to death. Almost impossible to get anyone to put in a wood stove or an electrician up here with the building boom that's going on, so, I'm hoping this will do the trick. Kerosene is almost 60 bucks for a 5 gallon container at the cheapest big box store - Tractor Supply. I haven't checked out the local NY gas stations yet. Thanks for this video.

    Kerosene is by definition a " combustible " liquid, having a flashpoint [ temp. at which vapor production will ignite ] of greater than 100 F. It will burn freely, as you can see, but is much more stable than gasoline. It has been used for lighting and heating for over a century. If you have any questions about it's use, consult your local fire dept.

      Walmart and the big box hardware stores sell a commercial purified kerosene in metal cans. I use K-1 kerosene from a nearby by fuel depot. It works well and burns clean. They have a dedicated kerosene pump. Some gas stations sell it from a pump for about $6.00 to $6.50/gal. Just take note that they legally cannot sell it to you unless you have a dedicated blue colored kerosene can so you don't accidentally put gasoline in your heater.

    Mine works fine except I am not able to get the wick low enough after the start up period. The know "bottoms out" before I get the wick to the correct lower height of the wick. It still heats great
    but I wish this wick adjustment problem could be solved. I am just wondering if this was a defect in the construction of this particular unit or if others have noticed a similar problem.

    • @Inflec
      @Inflec Год назад +1

      I've experienced this. The solution is to hold onto the knob and press the shutoff lever at the same time. This will cause the wick to drop partially as the wick mechanism ratchets down a few notches. Release the shutoff lever and you should now have a range of adjustment with the wick lowered sufficiently to find the best setting for proper flame height. The best solution is for manufacturers to increase the normal adjustment range on these heaters.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 Год назад

      Yes but that means the wick is not installed correctly. A perfect flame should be in the free roll range of the knob. Take it apart and raise the wick on the roller.
      You get an ideal flame with good blue tip, no visible smoke and almost no stink....the best flame height, the unit advises is shown on the side of most heaters with a drawing.
      You don't turn it up or down to make it hotter or cooler. The knob is for different air conditions on wet or dry days, high and low air pressure.
      I typically advise using room doors as a "thermostat". Close doors till the room gets hot, then open them to let excessive heat spill into another room....then close the doors again if your room gets cool.
      Real hot....extinguish it...then light it again.
      Modern HVAC systems don't turn down the hidden burner or heat pump....the thermostat turns them on and off.

      Shouldn't matter if the wick is raised or lowered. It has "tails" which reach all the way to the bottom of the tank, so it will definitely soak up kerosene (after all, that's how these things work). If the wick is fully lowered you won't see it. VERY important to keep the handle swiveled down against the side when it is operating. Then lift the handle to carry, put it back down once you have relocated it. Heat goes up. The handle will get flesh-burning -hot if you keep it in the up position for too long. Just like a Coleman or a kerosene lantern.

      The safety tumbler is likely extinguishing the flame as you move it. There's a plumb weight connected to the extinguish trigger. If it gets bumped hard, rocked or the unit falls over....it is designed to retract the wick (roll bang).
      Light it. Wait for a stable flame (usually under 2 minutes) pick it up by the pail handle and smoothly bring it inside. Same in reverse to extinquish.
      Only warm wet kerosene stinks. When burning the kerosene is boiling to gas on the wick tip. Therefore worst smell is start and stop of the combustion.
      Smoldering hot wick stops stinking and smoking after 5 minutes.
      Stay warm. Be safe.
