What’s crazy is that this would be an insane and exhausting whirlwind trip, and you still wouldn’t even have scratched the surface of what Japan has to offer. It’s so broad and diverse, it’s really a whole other world unto itself.
To be fair....many sights of Japan are copy/pasted from other areas of Japan. The temple architectures are very similar , the pagodas are virtually the same, Shrines are very similar. Japan has many seasonal events and local Matsuri during different times of the year.
My partner and I took this tour. It was totally amazing. We could only go up halfway up Mt. Fuji due to an avalanche. The guides were completely professional and kept us very safe. I would recommend this Japan; this tour to anybody who loves Japan. As we do even more so now.
There is a guy in northern Japan who is also a tour guide that does mountaineering, his channel is Go North Japan and he does some great hiking related content, great channel for anyone interested in exploring Japans beautiful scenery
While Tochigi prefecture might not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking of Japan, it's actually a great place to live! Nikko is undeniably famous for its breathtaking shrines and temples, but Nasu, where I call home, offers a different kind of charm. Known for its stunning natural beauty, relaxing hot springs, and charming villages, it also boasts the Imperial residence. As a former golf enthusiast, I can't forget to mention that Nasu is also one of the most affordable places to golf in Japan, which definitely added to its appeal for me.
Years ago I wanted to go to Japan no matter what, but since covid and IRL stuff, that dream was dying. Watching some of your videos is helping to rekindle it and I'm grateful for that. Definitely going there in the next years :)
It was the same for me - I had planned my first trip for beginning of 2020, had all my travel vaccinations and everything, and then Covid struck and Japan closed its borders. That dream had to lay dormant until only recently when Japan finally fully reopened for tourists again, far later than any other country, really. I've now got flights and airbnbs set and also a JR pass already, and am flying in beginning of April and will hopefully still see cherry blossoms! You can make your dream come true, also! :)
@@Beamin439 Haha, yeah - I did! I went for almost a month in April... it's crazy for me to say, but I actually didn't fall in love just like I had assumed I would... Despite me loving the culture and language and everything about Japan so much from the distance, for so many years. Tokyo overwhelmed me. In a good way, I really loved it and it's a truly awe-inspiring beast of a city. But it's prohibitive and somewhat closed - like Japan and the Japanese. I stayed 2 weeks, I think I should've stayed longer. Then I took the JR rail across the country for 10 days and visited Shikoku, Kzyushu und Kyoto on the main island, saw Nagasaki and Fukuoka and places on Shikoku. Here's the thing: Japan's infrastructure outside of Tokyo is crumbling. The country is bled dry financially and you see the wealth of a couple or three decades ago and that it's not growing now. Almost all Japanese towns look the same. It'd be hard to know where you are just by being in the center of town, aside from the resident castle or famous spot or mountain etc. I want to return and give it a second chance. I think it's a guarded place. It doesn't give itself too easily, or perhaps not at all. I would stay longer in Tokyo and perhaps only see one other town, also for longer then. Like, 3 or 4 weeks in Tokyo and 2 weeks in Kyoto, or something like that. Yes, it is amazing, but it might also be different than you imagine, it isn't all a magical place, it is a real place, with real issues, also.

I just finished taking down notes! My husband and I will be travelling Japan for the first time this December for 15 days and I'm cramming. Where to go, what to do, etc. But watching this vid made me realize to just take one step at a time. No need to rush things and as you said, "enjoy yourself & do things your way". Id apply the cost breakdown at the end of the video and times it by each person, there would be some savings based on who is sharing rooms but it should be pretty much the same
Left Tokyo in the afternoon and climbed Fuji, catched the sunrise, ran down, headed off to the monkey onsen in Nagano and got back to work the next day. Best way to spend a weekend.
I did shorter, but similar trip in 2019. Tokyo(3d)-Nara(0.5d)-Kyoto(2.5d)-Hiroshima(0.5d)-Himeji(0.5d)-Tokyo in one week. It was great albeit pretty tight, but I was agile enough as I travelled solo. And of course you need a most detailed itinerary worked out in advance. I’d say Tokyo-Hiroshima route is the easiest choice for your first 1-2 week long trip, cos there are so many places to visit. If Japan ever opens again, I am going for 2 weeks at the very least.
Japan is so close to returning to normal travel. They announced today you can travel to Japan solo, but only if you go through your travel agency. Its not perfect, but better than the group tours they were doing.

@@InakaAdventure I have had the opportunity to watch several of your videos and you have covered so much. I need to figure out now if I can fit in the Gifu region for this trip based off of your other YT videos on that area (or come back another time). I like to unpack and stay in places a bit if I can and IMO a place near historical Gion/Kyoto is now looking like 8 full nights. From that point experiencing the Japan train system for 5-6 days of journey's from 30 minutes to 3 hours away via train sounds fantastic to me. The problem is there seems to be dozens of journey's that fit into this category. This sounds magical compared to staying in the city of Osaka but since Osaka is so close by train we can go in and experience the world class restaurants/food of Osaka for lunch or dinner and get back to Kyoto to sleep. A video on staying in Kyoto and train traveling around might be awesome (but who knows it might be just because that is my preference for this trip) versus two days in Osaka, two days in Kurama, two days in Kanazawa, 2 days in Nara, etc the list goes on. Anyway back to watching more of your videos - HA.
Three yrs ago I spent 6 weeks traveling from Kumamoto in Kyushu to Sapporo, Hokkaido. It was obviously the trip of a lifetime, but I saved for it, & went first class the entire way. Had a Shinkansen pass, & just went wherever I felt like going, and I loved it. Hokkaido in December/January is my favorite place in the world.
@@InakaAdventure well, I had lived & studied in Japan for almost 6 yrs from the mid 1970’s. There was a lot of time spent on a very tight budget, but I had a great time even when I was broke. So this 2019/2020 trip was ME, REWARDING ME, for doing something COOL. My only regret is I should have used the opportunity to publicize the trip with one of the Japanese TV Programs that focus on this kind of stuff. Well, the next time I have $10,000 to blow I think I’ll talk it over with some experts.
Anything made in Japan have very good qualities, because Japanese peoples are very hardworking and seriously paying attentions to details of their products always. Most their products have long lasting, beautiful packaging artistically. Everywhere in Japan are very clean. If we have time, absolutely will like to visit Japan always. My mother was educated in Japan and my brother was born in Japan quite a few decades ago. I always love to visit Japan. Surely many Americans all love to visit Japan too.
I did this itinerary, like 90% of what he said to do. If I was to do it again I’d do it across 3 weeks and spend a couple extra nights in certain places (mt Fuji, Gujo hachiman and Kyoto) and also do extensive research on each spot to see whether I would like it or not. I did enjoy it all but there are some things I could’ve skipped and spent going to other places in Japan that weren’t on the list. All in all a good reference. Japan is beautiful

I have been in November, it is wonderful. In addition to what is mentioned in the video, you should check out Nikko, Enoshima and Kamakura. Those can all be day trips from Tokyo. Enoshima has wonderful winter illumination and you can see the sunset above the ocean and get a glimpse of Mt Fuji. Nikko is filled with temples and definitely warrants a visit, especially if you are not making it to Kyoto

this was so helpful, I am planning to go to Japan early September all on my own (First time travelling alone as well) and this video gave me a lot more confidence to plan out a good schedule of things I would love to do and visit. Very good recommendations and showed pretty much the cool hotspots I also would like to go to! In my honest opinion, Japan is THE most beautiful place in the entire universe! So clean, organized, and so friendly with endless array of natures and super-urban elements all around! Japan Forever!

Japan is overrated. I just came back from Japan 2 days ago. I expected every place that I go to being the best food I ever had. It wasn’t. All the good restaurants have a super long wait. There is a huge huge language barrier. Japanese aren’t as tourist friendly as media portrayed. They are very to themselves and very clique. A lot of the real Japanese activities are japanese only. I tried booking a private onsen but the ryoken said Japanese only. Japan are very conservative, the people aren’t as friendly as the stereotypes suggested. I took public transit everyday. You would see not always see young people offering their seats to the elderly or those in need. While Japan is clean for the most part, in the alley ways, you can find cigarette butts in the streets. Japan doesn’t have individualism, everyone is expected to go with the social norms. If you are a foreigner trying to date in Japan, lol good luck. Dating culture is just sad, Japan has a huge “host” problem, it is the only country that girls get into shady business to pay for male host. While japan is a beautiful place to visit, it is pretty overrated.
The best time to climb the Fushi Inari in Kyoto is early in the morning or right before the sunset. It is amazing! Barely crowded, and I do that every evening as an exercise when I stay in Kyoto! JAPAN = HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!
Can I ask if this JR pass link sells authentic JR passes? There are a few websites selling JR passes and I worry about which ones are authentic (no offence meant, just to be sure).
@@yancyjarquin4683 And you still have to get the metro card. JR Pass also does not cover all the Shinkansen lines. Sometime is actually cheaper and faster to just fly from one city to the next using smaller domestic airlines. For example, Hiroshima to Narita flight is less than $100 while shinkansen cost around $150 and takes 2 to 3 times longer to get there. For JR Pass, you may want to get the Green Class (reserved seating) otherwise all 5 of you may end up in different carts and rows during peak travel time. Believe me...I speak from personal experience. Also, you want to use the luggage delivery service from hotel to hotel as it is considered rude to be dragging your luggage on rail and taking up all those space (with the exception of N'EX: Narita Express train), just like eating, talking on your phone, and conversing loudly on train is frowned upon in Japan.
@@joyjoy534 I thought the luggage delivery services required about 2 days. How could you travel from one city to the next but not get your bags until 2 days later? Do the bags travel on the same train as you do? or are they delivered to your next hotel? Thanks for any info.
Wow this was great, So much information. My first trip to Japan was nearly 12 days and kinda similar (just much more simplified haha).... 5 nights in Tokyo 2 in Kyoto and rest in Osaka... While in Tokyo, I did visit Matsushima Bay (took a boat trip too :D), Asakusa, Sky Tree, Meiji Temple, Emperor's Castle (need to book months in advance, can't go inside the building, but worth it), Akihabara, Ginza etc... In Kyoto (Fushi Inari), some temples. While in Osaka, I went to Hajieme Jo and Nara. The best trip of my life haha

We will be heading to Tokyo in October 2023! My wife's 50th birthday present,that she doesn't know of yet.. We have been talking bout going there since 2021 For my 50th birthday in November 2022,I took my family to Seoul,South Korea & we had an incredible time (3 weeks) over there Your video just solidified my desire to take my family to Japan this year...amazing scenery! We actually had a similar itinerary, admittedly we had three weeks but only because we stayed in Tokyo for so long xD From there we travelled to Kyoto to see the Fushimi Inari Shrine, then further to Himeji, to visit the famous white castle, then all the way west to see Hiroshima and the beautiful island of Miyajima and then further south to Kumamoto before returning all the way back to Tokyo for a few more days^^
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed your voice too. The only thing I would like to add is that you can organise pocket WiFi before you arrive in Japan. Some companies organise for you to pick it up from your hotel when you arrive. They provide a self stamped envelope so you can just return it via post when you leave Japan.
Good news! Apparently, Japan will be opening its borders to individual tourists starting October 11! I just posted on my channel our travel to Sapporo last 2020, a month before all the pandemic restrictions were imposed cause I really missed the country. Hopefully, if everything goes well, looking forward to our trip to Osaka this coming November

Glad this popped up as a recommendation! I've added Tomogashima to the (growing list) of pins in the Shikoku - Seto inland sea - Kansai area for a (hopefully) visit next year. Shiminami Kaido - I definitely agree. I cycled Imabari to Onomichi in one day, along the "Blue Line" It was great, but I should have taken a few days and explored more.

Thanks a lot. Very well documented. I am planning to go to Japan for 14 days. Sticking to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka as this is my first time. I was hoping to find some side trips from these cities and plan out the route. This video really helps and I could add few more places to consider into the list of places I want to visit.

As this is our first time visiting Japan, I was planning to stay in Tokyo and visit neighbouring places for 6 days, 4 days in Kyoto and 2 in Osaka, 1 day to travel back to Tokyo from Osaka and do something we missed out on that day if possible. I do not wish to fill up our itinerary with places and not get a chance to relax and appreciate wherever we are. So I was trying to figure what makes more sense and fine tune my plan. I have a question for you if you don’t mind. If we travel to more rural side of Japan, e.g Himeji castle, would not knowing Japanese be a problem?
Himeji Castle isnt rural at all, its about a 30 minute walk down the main street from a rapid stop, you can see it all the way from the train station actually, pretty cool little road. For Himeji you wont need Japanese at all, but in more rural parts yeah it always helps (but dont worry youll be able to get around alright)
Great video - wish I'd seen it before I visited Japan 3 years ago..! One immediate comment I'd make is don't go for 2 weeks - if possible go for a minimum of 3 weeks. I personally found that my two weeks was, by far, too short..! I will be visiting again soon and it will be minimum of 3 weeks to be able to soak up so much more of this wonderful country. My route was a similar one to your video - Tokyo - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka but you listed many, many places there which we either never knew of or lack of time prevented us visiting, hence I'm going 3 weeks next time. JR rail pass is a must - doesn't allow travel on some services but that never unconvinced us at all & the pass was well worth the money, particularly if going across Japan. We had mobile WiFi router as well - an absolute godsend & I'd highly recommend getting one. Only cost us about £35 for our 2 weeks & kept us in touch with relatives, Google, etc wherever we went. Hiroshima is a truly humbling experience & one I wanted to experience since I was a teenager all those many years ago. If you have always wanted to visit Japan - do it. You will never regret visiting this wonderful country.
Absolutely agree but 2 weeks is usually the max people can get away from work, ive seen people take 2 month trips and leave wanting more too. Cant recommend the JR Rail Pass more for just being able to explore the country as you like, I'm actually working on a video about the JR National Pass and some other regional passes for people coming to Japan that will be released in 2-3 days time to help people with this
Its crazy how much your recommendation matches our itinerary for next week. Ill see if our group is interested in exploring any of the areas you had that we missed.
Definitely takes more than 2 weeks to visit all those places. The only way to fit all that in and enjoy the visit if you have a helicopter and private limo on standby and there are no queue to get into all those places. Not to mention you won't be getting much sleep each day.
Great 2 week itinerary! I will be traveling to Japan this november and already got my JR Rail Pass. I plan to spend most my time in Tokyo but visit Kyoto and Osaka for a few days. I will most definitely be using the suggestions in your video when i'm in those cities.
I'm thinking of visiting Japan solo for 3-4 weeks this March, I'm looking forward to explore the ancient history and culture and it seems like you really can't go wrong with any of these options.
Hopefully youll be able to see some of the Sakura at that time, A great place for historical sights in Japan is Gifu if you can get out there. one of my favorite places to visit in fact

I'm wondering, how do the plum blossoms compare to the sakura? I know they're not as common in comparison. Would Shiga prefecture (Midera temple, Hikone castle, etc) have some plum blossoms, or not really?
Oh I used to live in Shiga, cant recall exactly for Miidera or Hikone-jo but there are definitely plum blossoms around, I think Ishiyama-dera has a grove of a few hundred Plums now that I think of it
One of the best Summer firework festivals is reputed to be the Anjin Matsuri in Ito. This is dedicated to the memory of Miura Anjin, otherwise known as William Adams, the English pilot who became shipbuilder and adviser on foreign affairs to Tokogawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the first Western Samurai. The festival starts on the 10th of August every year. It is definitely on my itinerary.
Thats a great one, but I think the best Firework festival in Japan has to be the Biwako Summer Fireworks, pretty sure its the largest in the whole country! (I Might be biased though because I used to live near Biwako)

I dont like driving inside cities in Japan, because parking and traffic is a nightmare and the subway systems are so good! But driving in the countryside is incredible and a unique way to experience Japan since most people that come over dont drive

Amazing guide, although all that in 2 weeks is only if your young. I need 2-3 day stays at each location, not a fan of the gogogo. Rather stop to smell the roses. Do you have patreon? I'm the kind of person that usually needs to take a break to relax after a holiday, but taking a long trip to appreciate and explore and immerse yourself in the country is also a great experience! The JR Pass has a maximum limit of 21 days for the longest option ( click.jrpass.com/SH5O ), but once inside the country there are also regional passes that can cover travel as well, such as the Tohoku and Kyushuu rail passes that are great value. So me and a buddy are planning to travel to japan sometime around October this year. He is returning from the navy and is fully vaccinated meanwhile I have never received a single shot and am not vaccinated. Obviously you cannot predict the future with how the pandemic will sway, but in your opinion will we be permitted to go by that point in time? Keep in mind we haven’t committed to any set plans yet, (havent purchased any tickets, made any arrangements). Also, we would rather not pay for a tourism package and would like to free roam the country ourselves for most likely two weeks, anything that comes to budgeting whether that be living accommodations, food etc would be planned much prior from day of departure.
A couple weeks ago I would have said that Japan would be open for sure at that time, in the recent weeks with abes assassination and a growing wave of infections Im not so confident of that day, Autumn / October seems like it could be open to non tour guided travel, but make sure any tickets you get are either refundable or flexible to move the date on since the country is going through a bit of drama in the last couple weeks
Japan. First thoughts: motorbikes! especially Kawasaki. I grew up riding them and always wanted to visit. I finally did in 2006 and it was more than I was hoping for. I hope to go again in 2023.
The Japanese north side of Hokkaido from Niigata is cold from October through April. Okinawa and Ogasawara islands are throughout the year summer heat.
I went to Japan in 2019 (just before COVID, so im grateful i managed to do it) but this is a well thought out trip. Probably need to squeeze in there a couple of rest days, but otherwise, i kind of done sort of the same tour, but starting from Nagoya. What would be really awesome is a mapped out trip but going north from Tokyo all the way to sapporo in hokaido.
Thank you for this video, it's really well put together. This video makes my planning a lot easier. I am still fighting with some things, like where to store luggage (takuhaibin, how to reserve etc), how easy/diffucult will be to get my JR pass at the airport, booking tickets for trains etc. But I think it's gonna be awesome trip in any case! And thanks for that tip for shimani kaido. I hope we can squeeze two day bike trip in it with stay near rabbit island and continue the next day.
Wow I think this is one the best Itinerary videos I've watched! Btw do you think Feb-March are good months to travel to Japan, I'm planning on going around those dates... if they ever allow tourism again haha
All year round there are things to do! The only time that might be bad in midsummer because the heat can be oppressive. Feb March is good if you like it a bit chill, can catch some snow in the mountains and maybe see some early Sakura in Southern Japan. Late March / April things get busy in Japan for the Hanami Season so it gets a little more expensive.
Hmmmm good video. Thorough insight, well done. This is a nice playlist to work your way through. However considering the different styles and themes of each of the areas in Japan it would be better, in my opinion, if the different sections of the video reflected their respective sections of the trip both in an auditory and visual capacity. This way views could both easily identify and associate each video section with the specific point in their trip and get a feel for the for the area of Japan they would be visiting on any given day, as opposed to simply being told. I am in no way saying you should film the trip yourself and realise it would be a hassle to make a video with my suggestions. This is just opinion. Hope you appreciate the insight.
Good feedback and certainly wish I could devote more time and specifics to each area. The balance between getting all the info in, while leaving enough out so that people can enjoy it for themselves and also keep the video short enough that people dont get bored is a challenge for every creator. Kinkakuji is beautiful, there is also a silver temple, Ginkakuji. Arashiyama is awesome...I almost ended up in the hospital though whenI tried to go up the mountain, I fell down the side of the mountain and the only thing that saved me was holding onto a small tree that stopped my fall off the cliffside onto the sidewalk down below. At night people wil lburn fires in barrels to stay warm. Arashiyama also has a cool bamboo forest..it was a favorite haunt of mine back when I lived in Osaka. Lol Nara deer will headbut you if you don't feed them....also go see Todaiji..it is incredible.

What’s crazy is that this would be an insane and exhausting whirlwind trip, and you still wouldn’t even have scratched the surface of what Japan has to offer. It’s so broad and diverse, it’s really a whole other world unto itself.
You're right there is just so much to see in Japan
To be fair....many sights of Japan are copy/pasted from other areas of Japan. The temple architectures are very similar , the pagodas are virtually the same, Shrines are very similar. Japan has many seasonal events and local Matsuri during different times of the year.
I was excited to visit until I saw the ukai fishing - looks awful 🙁

My partner and I took this tour. It was totally amazing. We could only go up halfway up Mt. Fuji due to an avalanche. The guides were completely professional and kept us very safe. I would recommend this Japan; this tour to anybody who loves Japan. As we do even more so now.

While Tochigi prefecture might not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking of Japan, it's actually a great place to live! Nikko is undeniably famous for its breathtaking shrines and temples, but Nasu, where I call home, offers a different kind of charm. Known for its stunning natural beauty, relaxing hot springs, and charming villages, it also boasts the Imperial residence. As a former golf enthusiast, I can't forget to mention that Nasu is also one of the most affordable places to golf in Japan, which definitely added to its appeal for me.

It was the same for me - I had planned my first trip for beginning of 2020, had all my travel vaccinations and everything, and then Covid struck and Japan closed its borders. That dream had to lay dormant until only recently when Japan finally fully reopened for tourists again, far later than any other country, really. I've now got flights and airbnbs set and also a JR pass already, and am flying in beginning of April and will hopefully still see cherry blossoms! You can make your dream come true, also! :)

@@Beamin439 Haha, yeah - I did! I went for almost a month in April... it's crazy for me to say, but I actually didn't fall in love just like I had assumed I would... Despite me loving the culture and language and everything about Japan so much from the distance, for so many years.
Tokyo overwhelmed me. In a good way, I really loved it and it's a truly awe-inspiring beast of a city. But it's prohibitive and somewhat closed - like Japan and the Japanese. I stayed 2 weeks, I think I should've stayed longer. Then I took the JR rail across the country for 10 days and visited Shikoku, Kzyushu und Kyoto on the main island, saw Nagasaki and Fukuoka and places on Shikoku.
Here's the thing: Japan's infrastructure outside of Tokyo is crumbling. The country is bled dry financially and you see the wealth of a couple or three decades ago and that it's not growing now.
Almost all Japanese towns look the same. It'd be hard to know where you are just by being in the center of town, aside from the resident castle or famous spot or mountain etc.
I want to return and give it a second chance. I think it's a guarded place. It doesn't give itself too easily, or perhaps not at all.
I would stay longer in Tokyo and perhaps only see one other town, also for longer then. Like, 3 or 4 weeks in Tokyo and 2 weeks in Kyoto, or something like that. Yes, it is amazing, but it might also be different than you imagine, it isn't all a magical place, it is a real place, with real issues, also.
This video made me cry!!! The urge to finally get back to Japan after now 12 years is growing more and more. Missing this country so much. I will propably watch this video many more times until I'll finally be back at Haneda. Thank you

Left Tokyo in the afternoon and climbed Fuji, catched the sunrise, ran down, headed off to the monkey onsen in Nagano and got back to work the next day. Best way to spend a weekend.

I did shorter, but similar trip in 2019. Tokyo(3d)-Nara(0.5d)-Kyoto(2.5d)-Hiroshima(0.5d)-Himeji(0.5d)-Tokyo in one week. It was great albeit pretty tight, but I was agile enough as I travelled solo. And of course you need a most detailed itinerary worked out in advance. I’d say Tokyo-Hiroshima route is the easiest choice for your first 1-2 week long trip, cos there are so many places to visit. If Japan ever opens again, I am going for 2 weeks at the very least.
Japan is so close to returning to normal travel. They announced today you can travel to Japan solo, but only if you go through your travel agency. Its not perfect, but better than the group tours they were doing.

@@InakaAdventure I have had the opportunity to watch several of your videos and you have covered so much. I need to figure out now if I can fit in the Gifu region for this trip based off of your other YT videos on that area (or come back another time).
I like to unpack and stay in places a bit if I can and IMO a place near historical Gion/Kyoto is now looking like 8 full nights. From that point experiencing the Japan train system for 5-6 days of journey's from 30 minutes to 3 hours away via train sounds fantastic to me. The problem is there seems to be dozens of journey's that fit into this category. This sounds magical compared to staying in the city of Osaka but since Osaka is so close by train we can go in and experience the world class restaurants/food of Osaka for lunch or dinner and get back to Kyoto to sleep. A video on staying in Kyoto and train traveling around might be awesome (but who knows it might be just because that is my preference for this trip) versus two days in Osaka, two days in Kurama, two days in Kanazawa, 2 days in Nara, etc the list goes on.

Three yrs ago I spent 6 weeks traveling from Kumamoto in Kyushu to Sapporo, Hokkaido. It was obviously the trip of a lifetime, but I saved for it, & went first class the entire way. Had a Shinkansen pass, & just went wherever I felt like going, and I loved it. Hokkaido in December/January is my favorite place in the world.
Sound amazing, I traveled from Kyushu to Aomori by cheapest train so just about the opposite of that, but had fun all the same
@@InakaAdventure well, I had lived & studied in Japan for almost 6 yrs from the mid 1970’s. There was a lot of time spent on a very tight budget, but I had a great time even when I was broke. So this 2019/2020 trip was ME, REWARDING ME, for doing something COOL. My only regret is I should have used the opportunity to publicize the trip with one of the Japanese TV Programs that focus on this kind of stuff. Well, the next time I have $10,000 to blow I think I’ll talk it over with some experts.
Anything made in Japan have very good qualities, because Japanese peoples are very hardworking and seriously paying attentions to details of their products always. Most their products have long lasting, beautiful packaging artistically. Everywhere in Japan are very clean. If we have time, absolutely will like to visit Japan always. My mother was educated in Japan and my brother was born in Japan quite a few decades ago. I always love to visit Japan. Surely many Americans all love to visit Japan too.

I did this itinerary, like 90% of what he said to do. If I was to do it again I’d do it across 3 weeks and spend a couple extra nights in certain places (mt Fuji, Gujo hachiman and Kyoto) and also do extensive research on each spot to see whether I would like it or not. I did enjoy it all but there are some things I could’ve skipped and spent going to other places in Japan that weren’t on the list. All in all a good reference. Japan is beautiful

I have been in November, it is wonderful. In addition to what is mentioned in the video, you should check out Nikko, Enoshima and Kamakura. Those can all be day trips from Tokyo. Enoshima has wonderful winter illumination and you can see the sunset above the ocean and get a glimpse of Mt Fuji. Nikko is filled with temples and definitely warrants a visit, especially if you are not making it to Kyoto

this was so helpful, I am planning to go to Japan early September all on my own (First time travelling alone as well) and this video gave me a lot more confidence to plan out a good schedule of things I would love to do and visit. In my honest opinion, Japan is THE most beautiful place in the entire universe! So clean, organized, and so friendly with endless array of natures and super-urban elements all around! Japan Forever!

Japan is overrated. I just came back from Japan 2 days ago. I expected every place that I go to being the best food I ever had. It wasn’t. All the good restaurants have a super long wait. There is a huge huge language barrier. Japanese aren’t as tourist friendly as media portrayed. They are very to themselves and very clique. A lot of the real Japanese activities are japanese only. I tried booking a private onsen but the ryoken said Japanese only. Japan are very conservative, the people aren’t as friendly as the stereotypes suggested. I took public transit everyday. You would see not always see young people offering their seats to the elderly or those in need. While Japan is clean for the most part, in the alley ways, you can find cigarette butts in the streets. Japan doesn’t have individualism, everyone is expected to go with the social norms. If you are a foreigner trying to date in Japan, lol good luck. Dating culture is just sad, Japan has a huge “host” problem, it is the only country that girls get into shady business to pay for male host. While japan is a beautiful place to visit, it is pretty overrated.

The best time to climb the Fushi Inari in Kyoto is early in the morning or right before the sunset. It is amazing! Barely crowded, and I do that every evening as an exercise when I stay in Kyoto!

Can I ask if this JR pass link sells authentic JR passes? There are a few websites selling JR passes and I worry about which ones are authentic (no offence meant, just to be sure).
This one is authentic, there are a lot of places you can buy them from though yes.

@@yancyjarquin4683 And you still have to get the metro card. JR Pass also does not cover all the Shinkansen lines. Sometime is actually cheaper and faster to just fly from one city to the next using smaller domestic airlines. For example, Hiroshima to Narita flight is less than $100 while shinkansen cost around $150 and takes 2 to 3 times longer to get there. For JR Pass, you may want to get the Green Class (reserved seating) otherwise all 5 of you may end up in different carts and rows during peak travel time. Believe me...I speak from personal experience. Also, you want to use the luggage delivery service from hotel to hotel as it is considered rude to be dragging your luggage on rail and taking up all those space (with the exception of N'EX: Narita Express train), just like eating, talking on your phone, and conversing loudly on train is frowned upon in Japan.

Wow this was great, So much information. My first trip to Japan was nearly 12 days and kinda similar (just much more simplified haha).... 5 nights in Tokyo 2 in Kyoto and rest in Osaka... While in Tokyo, I did visit Matsushima Bay (took a boat trip too :D), Asakusa, Sky Tree, Meiji Temple, Emperor's Castle (need to book months in advance, can't go inside the building, but worth it), Akihabara, Ginza etc... In Kyoto (Fushi Inari), some temples. While in Osaka, I went to Hajieme Jo and Nara. The best trip of my life haha

We actually had a similar itinerary, admittedly we had three weeks but only because we stayed in Tokyo for so long xD
From there we travelled to Kyoto to see the Fushimi Inari Shrine, then further to Himeji, to visit the famous white castle, then all the way west to see Hiroshima and the beautiful island of Miyajima and then further south to Kumamoto before returning all the way back to Tokyo for a few more days^^
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed your voice too. The only thing I would like to add is that you can organise pocket WiFi before you arrive in Japan. Some companies organise for you to pick it up from your hotel when you arrive. They provide a self stamped envelope so you can just return it via post when you leave Japan.

Good news! Apparently, Japan will be opening its borders to individual tourists starting October 11! I just posted on my channel our travel to Sapporo last 2020, a month before all the pandemic restrictions were imposed cause I really missed the country. Hopefully, if everything goes well, looking forward to our trip to Osaka this coming November

Glad this popped up as a recommendation! I've added Tomogashima to the (growing list) of pins in the Shikoku - Seto inland sea - Kansai area for a (hopefully) visit next year. Shiminami Kaido - I definitely agree. I cycled Imabari to Onomichi in one day, along the "Blue Line" It was great, but I should have taken a few days and explored more.
More people need to see Tomogashima!

As this is our first time visiting Japan, I was planning to stay in Tokyo and visit neighbouring places for 6 days, 4 days in Kyoto and 2 in Osaka, 1 day to travel back to Tokyo from Osaka and do something we missed out on that day if possible. I do not wish to fill up our itinerary with places and not get a chance to relax and appreciate wherever we are. So I was trying to figure what makes more sense and fine tune my plan.
I have a question for you if you don’t mind. If we travel to more rural side of Japan, e.g Himeji castle, would not knowing Japanese be a problem?
Himeji Castle isnt rural at all, its about a 30 minute walk down the main street from a rapid stop, you can see it all the way from the train station actually, pretty cool little road. For Himeji you wont need Japanese at all, but in more rural parts yeah it always helps (but dont worry youll be able to get around alright)

Great video - wish I'd seen it before I visited Japan 3 years ago..! One immediate comment I'd make is don't go for 2 weeks - if possible go for a minimum of 3 weeks. I personally found that my two weeks was, by far, too short..! I will be visiting again soon and it will be minimum of 3 weeks to be able to soak up so much more of this wonderful country. My route was a similar one to your video - Tokyo - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka but you listed many, many places there which we either never knew of or lack of time prevented us visiting, hence I'm going 3 weeks next time. JR rail pass is a must - doesn't allow travel on some services but that never unconvinced us at all & the pass was well worth the money, particularly if going across Japan. We had mobile WiFi router as well - an absolute godsend & I'd highly recommend getting one. Only cost us about £35 for our 2 weeks & kept us in touch with relatives, Google, etc wherever we went. Hiroshima is a truly humbling experience & one I wanted to experience since I was a teenager all those many years ago. If you have always wanted to visit Japan - do it. You will never regret visiting this wonderful country.
Absolutely agree but 2 weeks is usually the max people can get away from work, ive seen people take 2 month trips and leave wanting more too. Cant recommend the JR Rail Pass more for just being able to explore the country as you like, I'm actually working on a video about the JR National Pass and some other regional passes for people coming to Japan that will be released in 2-3 days time to help people with this

Definitely takes more than 2 weeks to visit all those places. The only way to fit all that in and enjoy the visit if you have a helicopter and private limo on standby and there are no queue to get into all those places. Not to mention you won't be getting much sleep each day.
Everyone travels differently, dont stress about doing everything just do what you want to. I like to get up early and see as much as possible
Great 2 week itinerary! I will be traveling to Japan this november and already got my JR Rail Pass. I plan to spend most my time in Tokyo but visit Kyoto and Osaka for a few days. I will most definitely be using the suggestions in your video when i'm in those cities.

I'm thinking of visiting Japan solo for 3-4 weeks this March, I'm looking forward to explore the ancient history and culture and it seems like you really can't go wrong with any of these options.
Hopefully youll be able to see some of the Sakura at that time, A great place for historical sights in Japan is Gifu if you can get out there. one of my favorite places to visit in fact

I'm wondering, how do the plum blossoms compare to the sakura? I know they're not as common in comparison. Would Shiga prefecture (Midera temple, Hikone castle, etc) have some plum blossoms, or not really?
Oh I used to live in Shiga, cant recall exactly for Miidera or Hikone-jo but there are definitely plum blossoms around, I think Ishiyama-dera has a grove of a few hundred Plums now that I think of it

One of the best Summer firework festivals is reputed to be the Anjin Matsuri in Ito. This is dedicated to the memory of Miura Anjin, otherwise known as William Adams, the English pilot who became shipbuilder and adviser on foreign affairs to Tokogawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the first Western Samurai. The festival starts on the 10th of August every year. It is definitely on my itinerary.
Thats a great one, but I think the best Firework festival in Japan has to be the Biwako Summer Fireworks, pretty sure its the largest in the whole country! (I Might be biased though because I used to live near Biwako)

I went to mainland for the first time last week while stationed in Okinawa and just found it amazing from the small area that I was able to go.

I dont like driving inside cities in Japan, because parking and traffic is a nightmare and the subway systems are so good! But driving in the countryside is incredible and a unique way to experience Japan since most people that come over dont drive

Amazing guide, although all that in 2 weeks is only if your young. I need 2-3 day stays at each location, not a fan of the gogogo. Rather stop to smell the roses. Do you have patreon? I'm the kind of person that usually needs to take a break to relax after a holiday, but taking a long trip to appreciate and explore and immerse yourself in the country is also a great experience! The JR Pass has a maximum limit of 21 days for the longest option ( click.jrpass.com/SH5O ), but once inside the country there are also regional passes that can cover travel as well, such as the Tohoku and Kyushuu rail passes that are great value. So me and a buddy are planning to travel to japan sometime around October this year. He is returning from the navy and is fully vaccinated meanwhile I have never received a single shot and am not vaccinated. Obviously you cannot predict the future with how the pandemic will sway, but in your opinion will we be permitted to go by that point in time? Keep in mind we haven’t committed to any set plans yet, (havent purchased any tickets, made any arrangements). Also, we would rather not pay for a tourism package and would like to free roam the country ourselves for most likely two weeks, anything that comes to budgeting whether that be living accommodations, food etc would be planned much prior from day of departure.
A couple weeks ago I would have said that Japan would be open for sure at that time, in the recent weeks with abes assassination and a growing wave of infections Im not so confident of that day, Autumn / October seems like it could be open to non tour guided travel, but make sure any tickets you get are either refundable or flexible to move the date on since the country is going through a bit of drama in the last couple weeks
Japan. First thoughts: motorbikes! especially Kawasaki. I grew up riding them and always wanted to visit. I finally did in 2006 and it was more than I was hoping for. I hope to go again in 2023.

The Japanese north side of Hokkaido from Niigata is cold from October through April.
Okinawa and Ogasawara islands are throughout the year summer heat.
I went to Japan in 2019 (just before COVID, so im grateful i managed to do it) but this is a well thought out trip. Probably need to squeeze in there a couple of rest days, but otherwise, i kind of done sort of the same tour, but starting from Nagoya. What would be really awesome is a mapped out trip but going north from Tokyo all the way to sapporo in hokaido.
Ill get around to one of those in future, but I havnt traveled that much in northern Japan yet

Thank you for this video, it's really well put together. This video makes my planning a lot easier. I am still fighting with some things, like where to store luggage (takuhaibin, how to reserve etc), how easy/diffucult will be to get my JR pass at the airport, booking tickets for trains etc. But I think it's gonna be awesome trip in any case! And thanks for that tip for shimani kaido. I hope we can squeeze two day bike trip in it with stay near rabbit island and continue the next day.

All year round there are things to do! The only time that might be bad in midsummer because the heat can be oppressive. Feb March is good if you like it a bit chill, can catch some snow in the mountains and maybe see some early Sakura in Southern Japan. Late March / April things get busy in Japan for the Hanami Season so it gets a little more expensive.

Hmmmm good video. Thorough insight, well done. This is a nice playlist to work your way through. However considering the different styles and themes of each of the areas in Japan it would be better, in my opinion, if the different sections of the video reflected their respective sections of the trip both in an auditory and visual capacity. This way views could both easily identify and associate each video section with the specific point in their trip and get a feel for the for the area of Japan they would be visiting on any given day, as opposed to simply being told. I am in no way saying you should film the trip yourself and realise it would be a hassle to make a video with my suggestions. This is just opinion. Hope you appreciate the insight.
Good feedback and certainly wish I could devote more time and specifics to each area. The balance between getting all the info in, while leaving enough out so that people can enjoy it for themselves and also keep the video short enough that people dont get bored is a challenge for every creator. Ideally, I wish to make videos of each of these locations, then I can link those videos into this one so if there was one spot that people enjoy the most I they can see the video about that area.

Kinkakuji is beautiful, there is also a silver temple, Ginkakuji. Arashiyama is awesome...I almost ended up in the hospital though whenI tried to go up the mountain, I fell down the side of the mountain and the only thing that saved me was holding onto a small tree that stopped my fall off the cliffside onto the sidewalk down below. At night people wil lburn fires in barrels to stay warm. Arashiyama also has a cool bamboo forest..it was a favorite haunt of mine back when I lived in Osaka. Lol Nara deer will headbut you if you don't feed them....also go see Todaiji..it is incredible.
