KPIX took a look into its news vault and found some real gems from an epochal year: 1969. Major stories involved campus unrest, teacher strikes, minority student demands and a sexual revolution in society. Allen Martin reports. (7-18-19)

I was here then. Protest almost daily. Vietnam was the catalyst. The hippies were living/traveling in VW BUSES and vans. People were living in communes and trying different ways of living. SF was a magnet a utopia people came from all over to escape the establishment.

And in just 3 years Playland at the Beach would be no more 😩

Yeah, that hurt!!! I so remember my grandmother taking us there quite a few times. How I miss it!!

Blue purse Yes, my grandparents took me there also. I remember that sometimes (because they weren’t rich) they would take me and my brother to Playland and we would just sit on the benches inside the merry go round building and watch it run around with all the wonderful lights and listen to the music coming from the band organs playing. And when they did find extra money, they would treat us to dinner at the Hot House for great Mexican food. Wonderful memories of growing up in SF in the mid 50’s

Houses didnt evolve at all from the 1969 to 2019 still ugly the only thing that evolve is tech car and ugly house become expensive that even look the same in 1969
