It's not ever worth it to buy the t5 Trade Empire before you have 15-20 merchant men if you don't have other farms. This is because of how compounding works. You stop getting any more additional income for several rounds to save up for the trade empire and therefore lose a lot of potential income scaling. also getting discount villages for merchant man spam is crazy good. Favored trades is also a large damage buff (2x attack speed + extra damage), so it's very worth getting once you have 20 merchant men.
Favored trades also doubles the bonus you get from the trade empire, while any merchant men built after the 20th won't get the buff at all. They aren't really worth it without the 5th tier but once you have all 20 and the 5th tier they are super good. They can also be used with bottom path farms to get nearly 100% sellback on your farms, which allows you to spend all your money on farms when saving for big upgrades and then sell those farms and make more from the farms and selling combined than you spent, even if you only had the farms for a few rounds.

I'm still relatively new to the game and tried Merchantman(men) for the first time yesterday. Impressed by the cash they generated; and I only had 5 or 6 of them, if only I had seen your video prior. Did a mix and match of 2-0-4 and 0-2-4, with a 0-2-5, and I haven't unlocked Brickell yet, would have probably helped their damage since they're real weak (2-0-4 are popping more bloons than 0-2-4 by a significant margin from what I've seen). I managed to clear on Hard, and push extra rounds to about 160, thanks to all the extra revenue I generated early (though I wonder if there's a diminishing return past round 100, at a certain point it felt like I wasn't getting any extra cash) Great video, really like the different concepts and experiments, keep on the good work!
I thought this would be in chimps which is something I wanted to try, x-x-5 boat with x-x-4 boats in chimps and see how good they do, sad I didn’t get to see it here
That's cuz xx4 and xx5 are useless in chimps, as they don't provide any extra money, so it's just a subpar buccaneer at that point, making it a waste of money.
which is why i dont play chimps, i dont need this kind of aggravation when im done with work. impoppable is fun enough for me, and can still be difficult when you play with pick up groups of people, who generally are pretty terrible.

Aircraft is good but overrated, the other two paths are also really good. Plus they can hit all bloons if you don't go top row.
