As someone who has built a TJ from the base model... if you want the lockers and axles, and you don't mind the interior differences... just buy the Rubicon. The drive train upgrades will cost more than the price difference between models.
My solution to the storage issue is the same as always: Get a two door, and either tumble or completely remove the rear seats. I so rarely travel with more than one other person that I'd be fine with having the less than ideal rear seats for the lower cost. I'd get the Rubicon two door. I like the proportions a whole lot more than on the four door.
Right on, to me the 4 doors look absolutely ridiculous. Just goofy, awkward and scream soccer mom mobile. I'm a minimalist. Most men are or at least were. I never thought in a million years you would see guys needing all this extra room like women cramming all sorts of shit in their rigs. If you're going for a 4 dr luxury vehicle, good Lord, get a Grand Cherokee. I'm sorry, but Wranglers were never meant to be luxury 4 door vehicles. They're utilitarian. To me, the only true Jeeps are 2 door Wranglers. The rest how they get the Jeep badge is incomprehensible.
I'm also not a fan of all the tech that goes into modern vehicles. That's the main reason I intend to get a TJ rather than a JK or JL. I can drive the car without needing its permission.
MultiPurposeReviewer I have an 08 2 door JK. Only because I was driving my wife's car for almost two months and felt compelled to buy that day. Of course I wanted the 05 Rocky Mountain TJ. But the bank said too many miles and couldn't approve the loan. This 08 was me settling. But it's not too bad actually. I have it looking and driving almost exactly as I would like it. But when the time comes, I'll be getting an 06 TJ Rubicon. That's for sure.
Jeep Life71 to me at least I would rather have a 4 door Wrangler I like the looks personally(mostly because I like LWB vehicles longer and wide feels more planted so I wouldn't have to worry as much about the roll over risk). also i'd rather have a 4door jeep to carry my cousins and friends because they all love going for drives and having fun so I want to be able to bring them with me. Also I'm not gonna not take it off road if I get a jeep I'm gonna drive it how its meant to be driven so she's gonna get dirty although ill clean it off right after cause I love offloading but I love a nice clean jeep too. Is your jeep a soft top and does it sit outside? ive been in between a soft and hard top but idk how the durability of the soft tops are sitting in the sun especially since they are black and I live in Florida. im sorry for this long paragraph.
Shawn Prickett I have a soft top. My Jeep does sit outside since my family's stuff is in our one car garage. Looking to get a car port though. It can be noisy in high wind but I usually have the top down and doors off anything at 55 degrees and up. The wind isn't bad for me. I find it worse with the spider web shade. The safari nx glide top is much better wind wise. I'm in Virginia where the spring summer and up until Halloween, the doors and top are off. In Florida, you can have them off year round. Personally I don't like hard tops. They are difficult to remove and Jeeps were never meant to cocoon its passengers.
WE purchased a JL Rubicon 2018 with the 3.6 CYL. Hardtop 2 DR. It is fully loaded with every option, and even the steel bumpers. We did not get the smokers package so we saved the $30.00 The unit is a daily runner for her, and she loves her "girl truck" .Wonderful vehicle in all weather, and fun to drive. Highly recommend it!
The Rubicon was never cheap. My 2009 stickered at $38k* when new and I just did a similar online build that totaled $49k. After 10 years the improvements are well worth it, in my opinion. Still, I don't know too many new vehicles that you can nearly double the MSRP after adding all options (and then add even more upgrades when you get it home). * Back in 2009 Chrysler discounted Rubicons by $9k to just $29k to raise cash.
Well done! I just got my ‘18 Sport JLU w/ “Freedom Top”, 6-speed manual, anti-spin diff, & all-terrain tires. It was a new ‘18 still on the lot, so I got it for a great price! I love it so far!
I watch your earlier shows , bought myself a wangler unlimited sport 4 door model with hard top for 41k , end of January, love the my Jeep , took it to some long road trip , good gas mileage , very capable , comfortable ......will never trade it for any other vehicle
I've been obsessed over the gen5 4runner for a couple of years now. My wife and I drove a JL manual unlimited and then a TRD Trail right after, both of which were the 2019 model, and the 4R felt muted and uncompelling. I actually forgot that I was driving my dream car... it just felt ordinary and plain. That being said the ride quality was by far superior in the 4R. Less fidgety steering, quieter ride with more comfortable seats, more glowy buttons to press and still had a locking rear diff. At the end of the day, it still felt tamed and dull, lacking any personality and merely just getting us to where we needed to go without any excitement. Manual 4d Rubicon, cold weather package, soft top, all season mats, aux buttons and the rear cargo tracks.
I tried for a 53k Sahara with a retractable top this weekend, and there were 2 in the state. One was in transit sold and the other dealer had so many customers on it they wouldn't dealer trade it. My dealer has to order one, and after seeing this, he's ordering two.
Ahoohi Used Wranglers as of the YJ or TJ models and used JK models too seem to hold their value pretty well. If you see some old one selling for 10k or under it must've been pretty reliable and in good condition, because of their resale value.
Fruitableee YT Its just going to go up and up and up. 5,000 dollar price Jump from last years Model? No thanks!!! I really wanted one too. Just don’t feel like getting bent over for an “American” suv... If people keep paying they will just keep raising the price. Its just common sense. 🤷🏽♂️
@Earl Rogers This video is about Jeeps, not outdated Toys. Ya know, the 2019 Taco with rear drum brakes and the 4Ton with its heavy ass and 99s 5 speed transmission. Go watch videos of your Toyotas, troll.
We love our JL Rubicon! It goes everywhere off road we want to go. Locking dif front and rear help a lot. We have the 2 door Rubicon, wouldn’t want anything else. Take out the back seats, lots of storage for two people.
Tommy, great job on the buyer's guide. You just might have the coolest job in the world. My 2 cents FWIW: Jeeps have become so unbelievably complicated, that they are losing their appeal to us old farts. We fell in love with the elegant simplicity and the fact that they were so easy to work on, plus so capable off-road. I cannot deny the cool factor of the available front and rear Dana 44, 4:10 gears, lockers, and swaybar disconnect. However, the rest of it (modern - day Jeep with it's excess tech) is for the pavement pounder, soccer mom, business man who drives in traffic. Sadly, the Jeepness is lost.
Best video review on RUclips! Expertly done and independent. In the UK there is a Wrangler Overland model. Same price as the Rubicon at £48,365 (US$64,168) OUCH! Two engine options: 2.0 Liter lnline4, GME T4 Hurricane Turbo, petrol, 270 hp / 295 lb.ft. 2.2 Liter lnline4, 16V Multijet II Turbo Diesel, 200 hp / 332 lb.ft.
Pretty good video and of course the Rubicon yet already driving Dodge and Jeep SUV's. Really, I would get a four door automatic, Navigation, with heated steering wheel, and seats and towing package.
Well last October I bought a 2017 Willy’s 2 door soft top. Couldn’t be more happy with it for the money. Honestly if it were priced like these new JL’s I couldn’t have done it.
You didn't mention the Sky One Touch option. Granted, it was delayed a while but they are becoming more available now. My Rubicon I bought 2 weeks ago was one the first not specially ordered to be sold in Dallas with the Sky One touch. It's a great option if you live in the right climate for it.
Just bought an unlimited JL in Ocean Blue in the Sport trim and love the manual doors, mirrors, locks, window cranks etc. It’s the sixties and seventies again, yeahhh!!! Lots of power and quiet inside with the freedom hardtop. I did not watch one video before I bought mine. Took the plunge and I have never owned a Jeep. This thing hauls ass and has style like no other vehicle in the world, period!!!!!! The first time my wife drove it, she said , “We can take this on a long trip”. When do we leave, honey! Buy American.......Buy JEEP!!! Now I need a Wrangler ball cap to match!! Damn it!
I love the 8.4 screen, being able to lock, unlock, find my Jeep and start it with an app on my phone. I love the leather seats, I got the tan with the metallic crystal. Cold weather group, led group, all the warning systems for $56,000. Its worth every penny. Plus love the lockers. No way I’m going back to coach. First class for me from now on baby
Tie downs are standard. You don't need the Trail Rail Management system to tie down. It looks like it will offer dividers and other custom things, but again, tie downs are standard.
Very comprehensive review! You just condensed weeks of my own research into 15 minutes. Wish I would have seen before I ordered my Rubi. But thankfully I don't have buyer's remorse as this just supported most of my decisions. Keep up the great work!
Tommy you forgot the optional sky one-touch power top $3995, its expensive but after driving one with the top closed and open on roads and the interstate I will get one with this top.
Cody Smith beautiful option. Bought a Sahara 2019 for my family and the kids love the top. Can’t wait for the weather to get better in California to take the kids to the beach with it.
The heated seat are really fast to heat with the cloth covering. The leather serves as a potholder between you and the heater. My wife bought cloth for this reason alone and they are really a bit nicer in hot weather as well. Just something to keep in mind if you are buying.
Proud owner of a new sting gray Rubicon! It's got the cold weather group which is quite handy here in Colorado! Thanks for all the great info! Now getting some new KM3s put on tomorrow!!
A Conneely It makes them fools. It’s a Wrangler. In 2006 a TJ stickered for 18,100. During the Chrysler LLC era that followed, slight increases in pricing occurred. The FIAT idiots went buck wild with pricing. They bought Chrysler for dealer network and for the Jeep brand. It seems people paying a premium for mall-crawling Wranglers is a thing, and Americans are dumb enough to fall for it.
Perhaps when the crash hits, there will be a lot of people unable to make the payments? Maybe a great time to buy a Jeep second hand with little mileage.
Kaleb : if you think $30,000 is insane, just come to France to discover our prices. The 2 doors sport model start at €46,000 (= $52,880) and you have to pay an additonnal environnemental tax of €10,500 (= $12,070) before leaving your dealer. So the wrangler start at €56,500 (= $64,950). Double price!!! CHEESE!!! And after that, each year you earn your jeep, you have to pay an additionnal ecological tax of €160 (= $184) because of CO2 emission is more than 184g/km. That is completly crazy!!!
Laurent Parcet haha I am from Sri Lanka this vehicle is over $150,000 - and v r a 3rd world (I mean developing) country!!! Pity I can’t afford one here
I've had my base model JL Sport 2-door for three weeks now and just love it. Only options I added were the Air Conditioning (I live in Central Florida) and the Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle. I can't believe the ease of removing the doors and putting down the top; which is something I need to do frequently when I'm in the field (my Jeep is basically my office). The windshield is easy to lower once you can get the wipers off - the wipers do not like to cooperate when you want them off! But just keep wiggling them and they'll eventually come off. I'm getting an average of 23 mph after three fill-ups. Great, great vehicle. It's already gotten me out of a few tight spots when I venture out further than usual!
$100 just for the hitch. Add another $40 for wiring. Then you still need the brake box, another $100. DIY and save yourself about $550 + with the brake box. You’ll need the brake box with the factory option too.
it's not just the hitch you get the 4 and 7 pin connector and the 4 bottom aux switch panel a class 2 or 3 isn't 100$ you'll be luck to get it under 250$ and thats with no wiring. honestly it's not so bad for all you get. if it was just the hitch no connectors wiring or aux panel yeah I would freak out.
The 91 XJ was my wife’s dream car back in high school. The Unlimited is striking her fancy. I’m partial to Toyota, and with our 4Runner approaching 270k miles why wouldn’t I be, but we will stop by the Jeep dealer for a look. My family has a place across the highway from the Hammers, but this vehicle will be about getting to, not over, the rocks🙂. We take the beater Suzuki Samurai when it gets really rough. But it’s nice to have extra capability when you’re traveling out there-I typically travel in 2wd, and drop into 4wd when I get a little stuck. If I’m thinking about pushing the locker button, it’s time to turn around.
My car was at the shop and I was given a 2020 Sahara at enterprise. Man I want this truck so bad 😂. I'm from New York and I'll probably never go off roading much. The Sahara is perfect for me I'm completely sold on this Jeep man I see why people love them now.
Its a brand new vehicle. He did his research on it and is comparing the new specs to old ones. Only the engineers who designed it know all the stuff without reading the new specs. Why you being a jerk? Get a life
The 4 door Sahara Version with Leather seats and colored hardtop. I currently have a 2017 like that I like the extra items that come with the Sahara version.
The 4Runner is a very capable vehicle, and does well off road... just not when its compared to a Wrangler. I wheel with new 4Runners, some pretty heavily modded. The capability gap off road is huge.
Dwealdric I used to off road every day in a 76 series Land Cruiser when I volunteered for the Red Cross in Uganda. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find a Jeep on that continent or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
Dwealdric that brings up another big point - mods. I think out of the box they are very comparable. Yeah, It’s easier to make a Jeep into a rock crawler but here in the dirty south most of the trails I’m gonna be hitting are mud and shale.
I'm a Jeep technician at a dealership and the only thing I guess I have a issue with is the disconnecting front axle no matter what trim level you get its going backwards in time where they had the vacuum disconnect now they have an electric actuator which really isn't much of any better
Wow... Just wow. So much useful information in this video, concise and no BS. I've watched it end to end 4 times as I make notes on the New Wrangler I want to get. Thank you so much for this. When will you being the 2019 models and features?
One very important thing for anyone wanting to buy a non Rubicon model. The base rear axle in the sport, sport s, and Sahara is the Dana 35, NOT the Dana 44. To get a Dana 44 you must option the rear anti spin for $595. This upgrades to the Dana 44 rear. Even though the "anti spin" trac-loc diff isn't very good, it is well worth it in my opinion to get the Dana 44
Just bought my 1st Jeep ever and drove. Don't know much about them at all. Found a 2018 Unlimited Sport V6 Purple color. Hoping to learn more about the Jeep world.
The 2 liter turbo engine is a good idea, at least for the Japanese market. Many people in Japan, ( myself ) included, were looking into buying one. The problem here is that road tax is calculated by engine size. A 2L engine costs $398 a year, while a 3.6L engine is about $1000 a year. I haven’t checked yet but will go to the local Jeep dealer to see if the 2L is available now in Japan.
I have always owned base models- roll up windows are good cause they don’t break, and you don’t need the keys to power the windows. Always could use it as a bargaining chip
This is not the first time a full time four wheel drive system has been available. In 1976 - 1979 the CJ was available with the Quadra-Trac full time four wheel drive system. Although I will give you that they didn't start calling them the "Wrangler" until after the CJ, but common, it's still a Wrangler.
Great job! Me, the Sport 2-door with the manual transmission, anti-spin rear diff, A/C, and a hard top. Living in Houston this would be the perfect vehicle for going from fishing spot to fishing spot.
The jk and the new jl 6 speed transmission are vastly different- I drove both new, the jk 6spd and then the jl 6spd and noticed a major difference in smoothness, less vibration and a shorter shifting pattern in the Jl's 6 spd. If you fancy a manual transmission over an auto, I would go with the JL no doubt.
As for seat options, once you go leather, it's hard to go back. So much more luxurious, comfortable, and so much easier to clean. Totally worth it IMO.
I wish you could get the 4cylinder with manual transmission. I get that it cost Jeep money to alter the assembly line and that very few people would go for the four cylinder manual but I think that would be a nice set up.
That is a very nice 2 door Rubicon. I agree with you, there's nothing like a 2 dr Wrangler. I have a family and still could not bring myself to buy an unlimited. My sons are young and climb right in the back with no issues. Especially during the warmer months when the doors and top are always off. Of course, my wife only likes my JK when we go to the Obx and drive on the beaches. Yes, storage is a bit of an issue. Which is why I bought a versa hitch with a dual post cargo rack that holds up to 300lbs. And with the weather proof jumbo storage bag. That won my wife over, well sorta. But I made it work and won my argument. 2 dr Wranglers forever for me. Great video Tommy!
Jeep Life71 did I hear myself talking? Jejejeje your right bro. I had a two door 2012 sport and it was a blast. It was rough having a baby one year after I bought it, but I manage to live with it until my second one came in. Sold it and bought myself two family sedans, but in two more years I'm going for the classic two door again. This time with a soft top, manual trans, right there you'll save like 3 grand plus another $3500 for being a two door and being classic is a $6500 savings. People don't get that this an off-road vehicle and not Mercedes.
mextijuas5 I hear ya. There's nothing like a 2 door Wrangler. It's a love hate relationship. One day she's going great, the next it's what's wrong with this thing now? Usually after wheelin'. It's just something minor I can fix in my driveway though. I wouldn't drive anything else. Well maybe a '69 Chevelle but then again I can't take a Chevelle off road.
We like to think that the 2-door Wrangler is small because it traditionally has been. I ordered mine under that frame of mind, but once I started checking on the dimensions, I saw that the overall length is only 0.3" shorter than the 4-door XJ that I used to own and I most definitely did not consider that "small" back then. Even with the back seats on the XJ in their normal position, I always had enough room for carrying luggage for 2 people when going to the airport or all the groceries when we went grocery shopping. Originally, I was thinking that I would be removing the rear seats on the JL that I ordered just to have useful carrying capacity for daily driving, but I'm not so sure that will be necessary. I'll still probably do it since I hardly ever carried more than 1 passenger in my Ram 1500 QuadCab (that I sold to make room for the JL that I ordered).
+Kuel Smaller and more nimble... Like the difference between a Cayman and a Panamera... Also, the 4-door has that whole soccer mom image thing that some like to avoid... :)
I have a '15, 2-door Sahara that's given me no problems whatsoever, yet I'm still thinking about an "upgrade". I like the 2-door, but as you pointed the 4-door has a bit more "trunk" space that would have come in handy more than once since this is my one-and-only vehicle. The problem for me is the price of all the upgrades that it would take to get a JL with the same features as my JK.
Good evening I've just purchased the 2018 jl .its my first jeep and I'm in love all over again .i don't like the grill .i want something more aggressive .but it's all good
Ordered my '18 jlu Rubicon today, some of the costs on options you spoke of are a bit lower. Still an awesome vehicle and the options I chose only enhance it's capability for the offroad. Very much looking forward to taking possession and heading into the Colorado mountains for a lot of fun.
Excellent video. Your advice, Tommy, is also that of an expert because of your knowledge about the new Wrangler in all its guises. The one point you might consider in the future would be to tone down what something is worth and what it may not be worth. I say this because folks with enough money will not mind spending $2,000 for a body colored hard top, while folks who are on a far more limited budget may not be able to afford that. (This would also apply to many other options.) In my case, I'm 70 years old and retired but with an excellent Roth IRA for additional income we don't pay taxes on, my wife and I can afford any Jeep Wrangler with any of the options we want on our car. My wife doesn't like the "body colored hardtop." She, and this again is a matter of personal preference, likes the "contrasting color." When we ordered our JK Unlimited Rubicon in February 2012, we got it without body color fender flares. (This was my wife's idea.) Deb has finally arrived at the idea that she likes the body colored fender flares, so that's what we'll order on our JL Rubicon. We're also going to order the dual top group. (I note what you said about the better quality soft top IS worth paying extra for, so thank you for saying so!) Your videos are always excellent. I got deeply interested in 4-wheel drives before turning 16 in 1964. My first car was a Series IIA Land-Rover. I drove L-R's for a little over 30 years, beginning in 1964. I've owned at least half a dozen Land Rovers and one 1982 (gray market) Range Rover that my business, McKane's Rover Imports of San Diego, imported at that time. These days, and since about the time we took delivery on our 2012 Rubicon in April 2012, I can assure you Jeep Wrangler's are every bit as much in my blood as they appear to be in yours! Thank you very much for such outstanding advice! You know your Jeeps and you've done your research. This is very much appreciated by a guy whose friends used to call him "Land-Rover Andy." For now, call me "JK Andy." But in less than a year we'll change this to Rubicon Andy when I have a JL Ruby in Utah and our JK Rubicon on Molokai in Hawaii. I dearly loved the "car" business. It's a wonderful way to make a living. (For about the past 30 years I've been doing serious research on Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into WWII.) Andy McKane, Springville, Utah and Ke Nani Kai, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.
Good video. I'm thinking of buying a Wrangler Sahara for my next vehicle. Some guys my age buy sports cars but I want a Wrangler. One big take away from the video is your choice for a value based Sport model, whereas I'm a little (lot) older with a bit more money so I know to ask for a Sahara rather than a Sport or Rubicon for the comfort features and lack of serious off-roading. Thanks for helping with my purchase decision!
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on RUclips describing the myriad choices you can get in a Wrangler. I would have to go with the Rubicon if I was to buy one. Something about that red dashboard grabs me.
i took one out on a test drive. i think it was the turbo engine. i don't like the new interior over my jk, but all the mechanical bits are way better. one thing you didn't talk about in the video is that the engine turns off when you are at a full stop and your foot is on the brake. the engine turns back on when the brake is released. this is good for a city jeep, but i would hate to have it on the trail. but the fine folks at jeep put a button on the dash that lets you turn off this feature.
Recently became aware of the JL, therefore glad I happened upon this video. THX! Wife is keen on the four door & I'll tell ya she is not at all keen on manual windows, so we may look into the upgraded Sport model. Now I'm unclear if previous models offered a back-up camera or the 2018 JL will be the first it's available.
We bought our first wrangler in '99 A Saraha manuel, came with the dual top option. My wife loved putting the soft top down in the summer and the hard top for better winter protection(INDIANA). 2012 ordered our JKU Rubicon auto, also w/dual top option. I built A 2dr JL Rubicon on line the other day and the dual top option was not available. "WHY NOT"? I agree with all of the options you suggested except I would get the navigation on the jeep because i'm old and only use my IPHONE to call people. I would only ever by A Rubicon but never "LEATHER seats" yuk! My wife loves her JKU but misses the maneuverability of the 2dr. Great Review I watch all the TFL reviews the TFL team is awesome THANK YOU.
I have had a 2012, and now the 16 JK Rubicon. my opinion. Jeep has made the JL a very functional product, by has Modded it out to the point of nothing left to do but drive. I like the JK Rubicon better.
I've read a lot of negative reviews about their reliability. Is it because of the off-road capabilities? Is it because of the wear and tear from trails? What about for those owners that use it strictly as a family vehicle and stick to pavement. Do they experience the same reliability issues?
Steadily trying to figure what I want to trade my ram ecodiesel in for. The Unlimited Rubicon or the 4Runner TRD Pro. The Toyota holds it's resale a lot more and the powerplant reliability is solid. Having dealt with FCA, it's amazing they still function as a company. Problem I have with going Toyota, they're only 15 years behind in anything involving interior, plus it doesn't have a front locker.
I had my heart set on a nicely trimmed Sport S or a Rubicon, but you pointed out some cool things about the base Sport. I think I'll go for that. I don't need power locks, windows, or mirrors, my doors are gonna be off 24/7!!
Did you guys know that ALL the European specification JL Wranglers get the Selec Trac transfer case and not the Command Trac like in the States? Furthermore this includes the Rubicon too! Which means Rock Trac and Selec Trac at the same time!!!! The Alfa Romeo 2.1 turbo diesel also takes the place of the 3.6 too.
I have seen the video and am now very well informed, as I ordered the Rubicon unlimidet version. Great video and great description of the Wrangler for us in Europe.
I would buy the unlimited Sahara. With retractable pano roof. As my BMW lease comes to and end this year. The jeep, VW atlas, highlander, and f150 are all being considered.
"I don't have any friends because all I talk about is jeeps" love it
Me too 😂😂
Lol
Same here
As someone who has built a TJ from the base model... if you want the lockers and axles, and you don't mind the interior differences... just buy the Rubicon.

Do you still love it? That had roll up windows then or is it the sport S with power?
Tommy and his father have made the choice to buy a new Jeep a easy choice for me. Thank you for all the great videos and hard work you both do.
Saying that he doesn't have any friends, because he spends too much time talking about Wranglers was such a turn on. 🙈😍😂💕
Ummm 🤔
I just got the 4 door 2018 Unlimited JL Rubicon manual transmission. Your site was very helpful. Thanks so much.
He’s gotten so much better at reviews , so awesome to see him keep progressing. Keep up the good work guys !
2-Door rubicon, upgraded sound, premium soft top, LED headlights, manual transmission, 3.6L
I tried for a 53k Sahara with a retractable top this weekend, and there were 2 in the state. One was in transit sold and the other dealer had so many customers on it they wouldn't dealer trade it. My dealer has to order one, and after seeing this, he's ordering two.
Selling like hot cakes got 2019 Sahara for the wife!
As a Mopar guy I love the new Wrangler the pricing is just a bit overkill. Otherwise awesome vehicle.
SwaggyFruitable YT Even used wranglers are overpriced. But that was all i could afford.lol
Ahoohi Used Wranglers as of the YJ or TJ models and used JK models too seem to hold their value pretty well. If you see some old one selling for 10k or under it must've been pretty reliable and in good condition, because of their resale value.
SwaggyFruitable YT
Im looking to get a Jeep for the wife and damnit they are expensive
Fruitableee YT Its just going to go up and up and up. 5,000 dollar price Jump from last years Model? No thanks!!! I really wanted one too. Just don’t feel like getting bent over for an “American” suv... If people keep paying they will just keep raising the price. Its just common sense. 🤷🏽♂️
@Earl Rogers
This video is about Jeeps, not outdated Toys. Ya know, the 2019 Taco with rear drum brakes and the 4Ton with its heavy ass and 99s 5 speed transmission. Go watch videos of your Toyotas, troll.
This guy is pretty straight forward and honest, I like that.
Always come to TFL for Jeep news!
Who *doesn't* come to TFL for Jeep news/stuff?
I'm an purist and hate the new Jeep unlimited. It is an SUV in my eyes now and priced crazy.
I just bought a 2016 JKU Sahara - best buy ever.
How many kilometers or miles were on it?? I am about go get 2014 Sahara
Best video review on RUclips!
Expertly done and independent.
In the UK there is a Wrangler Overland model.
Same price as the Rubicon at £48,365 (US$64,168) OUCH!
Two engine options:
2.0 Liter lnline4, GME T4 Hurricane Turbo, petrol, 270 hp / 295 lb.ft.
2.2 Liter lnline4, 16V Multijet II Turbo Diesel, 200 hp / 332 lb.ft.
I had a 2004 Rubicon, it's undercarriage armour could take any trail safely.
Slingsomelead
Count your blessings for Joe inexpensive your cars are generally in the USA. Even compared to Jeep UK for example.
They are just going to keep going up in price lol. SAD.
You didn't mention the Sky One Touch option. Granted, it was delayed a while but they are becoming more available now. My Rubicon I bought 2 weeks ago was one the first not specially ordered to be sold in Dallas with the Sky One touch. It's a great option if you live in the right climate for it.
How's road noise w the sky roof
Also looks like it robs you of cargo space if you actually use it...
I have a 2018 JL Sahara 3.6 it rides smoother on the highway than my ram Laramie.
The pricing is totally NUTS!
Actually, I think it's quite reasonable.
@@desertpair2
$50k for a Jeep?
Agreed. Not worth it. Why people pay these prices, I have no idea.
@@Dawgator One idea is that they have more money than you do !
Just ordered my JLU Rubicon! Much thanks to TFL for all their help in my purchase 👍
Still rolling it?
Great job Tommy thats what this channel needs ! information that's why we come to TFL to get that inside information
$30,000 with manual windows & locks? I mean I know it's a Jeep but c'mon that's crazy.
Perhaps when the crash hits, there will be a lot of people unable to make the payments? Maybe a great time to buy a Jeep second hand with little mileage.
The doors come off, are you going to re-wire them every time? Duh
Pity I can’t afford one here
Dharmesh Unnithan wow that sucks.
8:08 $795 for a class 2 hitch? Aftermarket Class 3's are only about $100.
Base sport 4 door is best value for THE money. My choice too. Good job explaining all options Tommy! You know your stuff when it comes to Wranglers!
Its a brand new vehicle. He did his research on it and is comparing the new specs to old ones. Only the engineers who designed it know all the stuff without reading the new specs. Why you being a jerk? Get a life
No car in the price of wrangler have this performance and capability off road ...Good job FCA
Fadi Jiha ☺
Excellent review! I tend to be a top of the line kind of buyer so go big or go home!!!
The 4 door Sahara Version with Leather seats and colored hardtop. I currently have a 2017 like that I like the extra items that come with the Sahara version.
I bought the JL Sahara. After deployment I will am the cold weather group and LED group.
2 door, manual, 2.0l. all simple because id like to keep one long term
Waiting for the pick up. Nice video
Just bought a 2018 Rubicon and it is my 5th Jeep. Always wanted a Rubicon, but love all Jeeps! Your video was awesome!!
Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! I just bought a Sahara w/nav-alpine, cold weather, LED, better soft top and auto trans
Oliver Brown pentestar?
I went to the Jeep dealership to buy a JLU, once I saw the price tag I went to the Toyota dealership next door and bought a TRD 4runner
chad tague damn straight
Great decision.... until you actually go off road. If you're only doing mild wheeling, than you'll be set.
Spot on. The 4-door Sport is the best-priced Wrangler. I was pricing 2 doors with AC and they cost more than the 4 door.
The locker and sway bar option is invaluable
Just bought my 1st Jeep ever and drove. Don't know much about them at all. Found a 2018 Unlimited Sport V6 Purple color. Hoping to learn more about the Jeep world.
I bought the JLU Rubicon with painted fenders, premium soft top, cold group, no keyless, no safety, regular bumpers, premium cloth and in black.
Almost bought a sport s yesterday. The base model has no power accessories. It's 2018
ted101975 right?!?! I couldn’t be happier with my new 4runner I got for the same price of a base JLU with 4wd
ted101975 pp
chad tague yes I was looking at the Tacoma also.
I have always owned base models- roll up windows are good cause they don’t break, and you don’t need the keys to power the windows. Always could use it as a bargaining chip
Got a 2016 Unlimited Sahara - 75 Anniversary Edition with 17K miles and love it.
This is not the first time a full time four wheel drive system has been available. In 1976 - 1979 the CJ was available with the Quadra-Trac full time four wheel drive system. Although I will give you that they didn't start calling them the "Wrangler" until after the CJ, but common, it's still a Wrangler.
Man I'm crying when he say the base US price for all the models, up in Canada it's much more!
Come down here and buy your vehicle
TheVeganBerkeleyBeauty there are some international rules cus he’d technically be importing the car and that costs a good bit
What, no Hellcat engine option ☹️
I like your thinking
damn.. this be awesome
Sami Anttila hellcat engine was only for trailcat concept car (sadly):(
lol. worst idea ever.
Wrangler wheelie would be awesome lol
Not a Jeep person but you can't go wrong with a Jeep, they are well made and touch & comfortable at the same time!🌵✌️🍻
Wow! So much appreciation for this 4wd.
Great video. I am closely watching the JL roll-out. I am going to stick with my JK as Jeep works out the kinks.
I'll still probably do it since I hardly ever carried more than 1 passenger in my Ram 1500 QuadCab (that I sold to make room for the JL that I ordered).
why is a 2 door better than the 4 door?
+Kuel
Smaller and more nimble... Like the difference between a Cayman and a Panamera... Also, the 4-door has that whole soccer mom image thing that some like to avoid... :)
I’m happy Tommy is back! Hopefully he enjoyed his trip abroad.
I'm going with base Rubicon Unlimited plus a few upgrades - tow group, premium sound, all weather mats, tint.
I am not into Jeeps 🚙 but your video was so well presented and informative that I watched until the end.
I'd get the Sahara! I love the look. I don't rock climb or off-road but the stereo is awesome. SOLD!!!!!
You made a lot of Jeep enthusiasts sick by saying that.... but I reluctantly agree, I do like the Sahara.
Thank you so much for that great break down. I could never get a straight story when I tried to order the exact JL that I want.
love it or hate it,i love this car
the last real offroad icon
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on RUclips describing the myriad choices you can get in a Wrangler. I would have to go with the Rubicon if I was to buy one. Something about that red dashboard grabs me.
Error at 4:25. Sport and Sahara models do not get the D44 AdvanTek rear axle unless you pay $595 extra for the limited slip option.
Great video. I'd like to see more of these buyer guide videos. Great work Tommy!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
i took one out on a test drive. i think it was the turbo engine. i don't like the new interior over my jk, but all the mechanical bits are way better. one thing you didn't talk about in the video is that the engine turns off when you are at a full stop and your foot is on the brake. the engine turns back on when the brake is released. this is good for a city jeep, but i would hate to have it on the trail. but the fine folks at jeep put a button on the dash that lets you turn off this feature.
Looking at getting a Rubicon myself. That is, as soon as I get rid of my 2010 JKUR.
I love the extra footage in that old town with the jeeps driving around behind each other. Clever ;)
On the dyno. The v6 has only 4 more horsepower than the 2.0T. 237 compared to 233. The turbo also had way more torque made 270.
I have seen the video and am now very well informed, as I ordered the Rubicon unlimidet version.
Great video and great description of the Wrangler for us in Europe.
Fun fact: the only way to get a manual 3.6 Pentastar engine is in the Wrangler.
I would buy the unlimited Sahara. With retractable pano roof. As my BMW lease comes to and end this year. The jeep, VW atlas, highlander, and f150 are all being considered.
If I buy another Jeep it will be the rubicon. For sure
