Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life
You're coming with me
Through the aging, the fear and the strife
It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that moves you upwards
Embracing me with two hands
Right will take you places
Yeah maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell them now your pleasure's set upon slow-release
Hey wait
Great smile
sensitive to fate,
Not denial
But hey who's on trial?
It took a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, "Why can't we look the other way?"
we speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smart like all people
Feeling real tan
I could take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van
Hey wait
Great smile
sensitive to fate,
Not denial
But hey who's on trial?
It took a lifespan with no cellmate
To find a long way back
Sandy, "Why can't we look the other way?"
You're weightless, you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Sandy, "Why can't we look the other way?"
Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me lightly
Yeah you've come to hold me tight
Is this motion everlasting
Or do shutters pass in the night?
Rosemary
Oh heaven restores you in life
I spent a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, "Why can't we look the other way?"
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Sandy, "Why can't we look the other way?"
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way? - Видеоклипы
I just want to listen to the song as I browse the internet, but somehow I always end up watching the entire video. Every. Time. I think it's the puppet.
KipperTheArt Hahaha, yeah, same here. It really is a great video, I can't concentrate on anything else then :D
Me too! lol
so true
Exactly what I'm doing!
"why cant we just look the other way?" because that damn puppet has my eyes fixed on the screen.
"Rosemary.....
Heaven restores you in life..."
that line catches me every time.
zentofroez rosemary west
I wonder how many people have noticed that the audio in this one is sped up significantly
Same
Also the video has had the brightness increased and has been flipped
I also noticed it
Yeah
That doll, man. Right on the razor's edge between adorable and full-on uncanny valley. I can't not look.
+Threeleggedyoyo i'm afraid.
This song came out when I was 8 or 9.
I flipped to MTV back when they showed music videos at like 3 am.
I saw this, and it scared the shit out of me.I watched Who's the boss on Nickelodeon until the sun came up
Poisontype The Junglist I have such a similar moment. I was probably around the same age when I saw "Kids" by MGMT on MTV in the middle of the night, and I couldn't go to sleep. It terrified me. Haha
me to 😋
Same.
Poisontype The Junglist I love everything about your comment
Poisontype The Junglist still child..
"You are weightless, you are exotic"
Perfection
Grim Reaper rosemary and her husband fred west were real people, who raped and killed their own child. this song is about them.
Patron Saint of Fashion lol, yeah. And?
my point is kind of clear. when i learned that i thought of the song in a slightly different way.
Patron Saint of Fashion yeah its a fucked up song but im just thinking about the phrase itself and how it sounds so cool and whatnot. I was disregarding the meaning of the song when I typed that. But I know what you mean
Grim Reaper oh for sure i thought you meant within the context of the whole thing. but yeah its kinda fucked up but i like it. its a great song
when I was little, I used to LOVE this puppet. I would stand on the couch and dance like him.
wtf XD
+Nikita Harris even myself i loved it too.... i never get why some people find it scary!
For anyone who doesn't know what the song was supposed to be about: It's about Fred and Rosemary West, a serial killer couple who murdered several people and were eventually caught after murdering their own daughter. Fred West hanged himself in prison after his attempts at emotional contact with Rosemary failed to garner any reciprocation. The song is told from his point of view either right before he commits suicide or right after, that's something that could be up for debate, although it seems that this reflection was most likely meant to be taken as occurring after. The song is called "Evil," because it's about Fred West hypothetically reflecting on all of the evil things he had done in his life and subsequently becoming remorseful. Also; yes, the puppet is supposed to be Ian Curtis. However, the song can have whatever meaning you want it to outside of the intended meaning. That's the great thing about poetry.
No its about some dude named Sandy
Good, finally somebody finally gets the obvious references.
I wish I could get into the rest of Interpol's music, but this song caught me right away. Maybe it's the serial killer in me or the lover.
Ryan Terwillegar
The serial killer or the lover.. Beautifully said.
Happens to me every time I listen to Bonnie and Clyde reference songs.
You are amazingly well spoken for a lime.
For some reason when the puppet started dancing it scared the shit out of me, like when I was a kid watching this video at 1 am on MTV. Good old days.
The Guy MTV EUA?
The nostalgia hit me so hard i almost slipped into a coma.
Ñbuk
But what is nostalgia?
é porra kkk nostalgia
Mr Jim when u listen to a song and remeber a certain time in your life of happiness, I think..
I like Norman he is a very intriguing well made and believably expressive puppet often times I can see him as a real person just going through shock
This song is almost 10 years old...I found it yesterday...I've missed good songs :(
I just found this a few days ago, too. Can't turn it off now.
Yeah, just heard their first album, I fell in love with PDA. I think Interpol will be one of my favorites bands :)
aljaca98 I'll go with Slow Hands and Obstacle 1. Hey, better late than never.
if you missed this then you missed lot of good things interpol was one of the last good band and music in the mid 2000's
IKurtC Yep, kinda sucks, but now I'm looking forward for "El Pintor". Can't wait until Sep. to be released. :D
I'm addicted to this song
From 2:50 until the end of the song is just pure masterwork. The best 40 or so seconds I have heard heard in a song
Morgan Stephens wrong. the whole song is perfect.
It is, that was just the most perfect to me.
Morgan Stephens they do really know how to close out a song. the ending is a life changing moment every time I hear it, still.
Morgan Stephens they do really know how to close out a song. the ending is a life changing moment every time I hear it, still.
Yes! I really love how they end NYC
oh the Indie... use to play Interpol songs with some friends in my friend garage , i miss the good old days of music
this song never gets old i love the bass tone and the way the full band can keep the full song awesome throughout the length of the song
interpol's first two albums were the damn soundtrack to many good nights. nothing comes close to turn on the bright lights and its atmosphere. i've started releasing a few songs on my channel inspired by interpol's sound, give them a spin if you're free x
I burst into laughter after the puppet jumped up and started dancing on the hospital bed. Not only that, but I couldn't keep my eyes away from its teeth lmao
Julie its because hes supposed to be fred west. Fred west had several head injuries and so when he went to hospitals he would become enraged.
It's a nod to ian curtis's epilepsy dance
Extraño esos buenos tiempos que tuvo Mtv :(
Siempre salía en Emosonica
This song was my intro to Interpol. It was on the radio and I was instantly entranced and was hypnotized by their music for abut 3 years straight. Only 2 other bands did that to me- the Clash and Iron Maiden. Interpol, you mean so much to so many people. Praise the gods for you musci
I remember watching this video on fuse and he doll creeping me the fuck out. It still does btw.
***** ikr
***** i watched this shit when i was about 9 on rage! awesome song but fuck me that thing haunts me
Rosemaryy, heaven restores you in life!!!
my dad used to play this song in the car when i was younger, after looking for it for ages i finally figured out the song, i'm so happy
Awww
Surprised this song is like 11 years old and I have never heard of it. I mean it's so good. I have been missing out!
same!
I can relate... :-(
Ana Davila Kind of reminds me of when I used to watch Nick at Nite lol. With like that Glenn Martin DDS.
if you making of the fella xx
***** I never really watched that lol. Maybe some Gwen Stefani but..
TE AMO INTERPOOL!!! TU LLENAS MI VIDA CON TU MÚSICA GRACIAS POR SER UNA DE LAS MEJORES BANDAS DEL MUNDO, ADMIRO EL ARTE DEL GRUPO QUE BUENA ROLA
Maybe I'm off, but this song to me is about guilt, crippling, overwhelming guilt about something you've done, that no matter what you do, you'll never able to rid yourself of it.
The song is called "Evil" because such guilt can make one feel exactly that, despicably and irradeemably evil. The puppet in that video feels that, from the car accident he caused.
It's about Fred & Rose West.
its about two murderers, but yeah, their story can be interpreted like that, i think
+HCH Millwall I'd forgotten that!
Just want to point out, I don't think that has been confirmed, though that is a popular theory...
it is a popular theory and there is another theory that it is about a situation of life and death, it is a really complex song and i like to think is a about Fred and Rosemary West.
Though I am not a huge fan of Interpol the Band.. I really like this song.. And the video is sort of embedded in my head now.
+mlawtone yup
+Kristian Watson-Noonan ñ
Dolls still scare the shit out of me and I'm a grown ass man.
+Micah Buzan dolls and clowns, and any old creepy victorian type toys.. yeah weird shit
too damn right
haha me too, I mean I'm not a man, but this puppet fucking scares me ^^
Micah Buzan handsome too
Micah Buzan i got the urge to say "that hair tells me your not a grown ass man" but then i thought id be liberal and put quotes on it as something I WOULD HAVE DONE....but didnt. Lets raise the bar a bit everyday. 👍
I always sing at the start "Roseeemarryyy this is the best bass line ever." Just a bad habit...
If you get time check out an album called Medicate the Howls.
I have just discovered this band and my god they're awesome.
Ha! You're probably really young, since you just discovered Interpol. To me, songs like this remind me of my youth, school, and stuff. If you like this type of music then try this: The Strokes, Hot Hot Heat, The Bravery. Search for their top hits. And keep discovering! :)
***** Already a huge fan of Joy Division, that's how I discovered Interpol.
mentuemhet or hes really old?
I'm 29. So what, you'll be old too someday.
mentuemhet omg.....almost 50 here.....guess I better stop working and wait for somebody to "put me down". NOT!!
These guitarist are just phenomenal together. I'm hooked!
I've never experienced a song that goes by so quickly every time I listen to it. This song is absolutely perfect.
I'll be seeing this puppet in my nightmares. Thanks Interpol.
My dad showed me this a LONG time ago, I think I was six or seven (I'm 12, Almost 13), and I remember I thought the puppet was so funny and I absolutely loved the song. I didn't know the song name, sadly. Once I got older and was allowed to use RUclips, I tried searching for the song, it took so long I forgot about it. Eventually, I found it (Once I was 12!) and I was so happy to hear the song again, then I saw the puppet. XD Nightmare fuel, right there, but strangely still funny. Thanks for reading and have a lovely day!
I remember when this song came out... I was pretty young but I loved it even then. It still holds up.
Everytime the guitar comes in before the chorus is just so amazing, Ive got to find others as jarring as this.
the puppet scared the crap out of me when i was little
Hahaha lmfao me to
The puppet is creepy as hell
caroline link x2
I'm 10 and im fucking scared
Were nostrils too much to ask??
Can people stop talking about Rosemary West? I am 99.9% percent certain that this song was meant to be ambigous.
+Morgan Stephens Exactly. That was an ancient fan theory that got blown out of the water years ago when Paul Banks, who writes the lyrics, said that the names (Rosemary, Sandy, Stella etc) were random and NOT related to anyone specific. Some weirdo fans set up a fake site pretending they had Rosemary West's "confessions" which were all Interpol lyrics....such BS can't believe anyone actually bought it. The site is gone now thank goodness. Interpol lyrics are always ambiguous, as they have stated multiple times. It's annoying cause it's a great song but people are probably put off by all these stupid claims that the song is about these British serial killers.
I had a conversation with Interpol and they said that the meaning about the song is about “looking the other way”
i have listened to this song over and over through seventh grade, i'm a senior in high school now. this song and it's band Interpol have been in my life ever since.
Sheer Magnificence!! Is almost impossible not to press replay about 10 times in a row - you cannot listen to it just once! And aside from Interpol, whoever did the production on Antics is a genius too - such sound quality!
I just discovered this song and now I'm obsessed with it,oh well.
Esto señores es música y lo de la actualidad se llama PRODUCTO
interpol forever!! ohh so long has passed but their music lives on me
Still one of my favorite songs after over 10 years
The first time I saw this video it made me so uncomfortable. Still kinda does
thats what she said
LokiTattoo yeah imagine that Lil ugly fucker in a dark corner in your house in the middle of the night😨😨
Aviad metuki Yeah, but not to you.
uncanny valley effect?
I can see what you mean... It's not scary so much as sad though, it's weird
2019 y el maldito muñeco me sigue atormentando por las noches.
this song makes me think of my childhood, listening to my moms music driving home at night. miss those times
Oh my god, I haven't heard this song in like a year! Jesus, I need to get back into these guys!
Who is here after the new The 100 Episode 🤔
Here for the epic use of this song in The 100, but an old fan of Interpol. Kudos to The 100 for an amazing cold open with Diazoa kicking ass to this song!
Yes worked well with the sence on the 100 great song
Best Opening in the 100 yet
MLB 2k6
Reminds me of the old Gorillaz puppets they used for some shows.
Carmen Xerxes
yep
true that
This is a great song!!!! Listening to the album reminds me of evacuating New Orleans right before Hurricane Katrina... it was the CD player in my car
Amanda Kiley SAME HERE so weird i saw them on the voodoo lineup and came here to relive that era. i had this burned on a cd and the first kings of leon album and a few others that really represent that time for me. crazy to see this comment
Greatest band of the 2000s period
the puppet is a tribute for ian curtis.
yes!
how is that
Yes it is
It reminds me of Rick from Rick and Morty. Sincere, that look.
JabulaniHeadTV FUXK YEAH
God, if I was trying to treat someone who'd just been in a car accident, them singing while I'm doing it would be really fucking annoying...
Lmfao! Just slap them!😂
Unless the song is great.
This song puts me in its unique mood
Masterpiece of a song! Love it!
I've loved this song ever since it came out. But the video unsettled me so much, I cried the first time I saw it, such a vivid memory. I was a fan of creepy stuff as a child, but this was too much for me. Now think it's adorable, and I love it even more because of it's serial killer themed lyrics.
LOL i remember just suddenly turning so uncomfortable even by just listening to the song without watching the video
YES SAME BRO
why the fuck did they give it teeth?
+Spildo Because Uncanny Valley.
Why not?
Souls take a lot of chewing.
This song will never get old. Its coming with me... through the aging, the fearing, the strife. its the smiling on the package, its the faces in the sand, its the thought that moves you upwards embracing me with two hands....
i just love this song its my favorite of all times
Honestly, the puppet is creepy as fuck. Welcome, Nightmares....
+Michael Franklin XD
+jazmine shaw off subject but you have an amazing name haha
+Jasmine Shaw
Thank you, your name is quite beautiful as well! Hahaha we have the same name XD
I agree
Right!
I think i'm only one who loves that puppet.
+Nato you're not
+Nato this song gave me strange feels when i was younger and after loads of years came back listening it and found out that puppet looks so freakin much like me so i cant not like it
He is cool! :D
we're two xd
It's gorgeous~
I remember watching this back when I was like 7 on the computer and I remembered loving the song, but couldn't remember anything about the song, but the puppet. So I'm currently taking my after school shit as a 17 year old and I looked up puppet in a crash. I'm glad I found this song again
Most likely the very best song of Interpol... Thank you very very much guys!
This video used to terrified me. In the wee hours, as a scared shitless 14 year old, I would find myself awake by this song playing on TV. Though I loved the song even then.
I understand the song now. It's EVIL because there is no explanation for it. You listen to it more and more trying to figure it out because it sounds like it should make sense somehow but it's impossible to put together. It's the audio version of an MC Escher print. You wind up obsessed with the song, that's why it's evil.
i think they said its about rosemary west and her husband fred west. serial killers/extremely evil people. when Fred west was set to be executed after serving in prison he wrote to rosemary about finding forgiveness in religion, he was clearly terrified. his perspective in this song is one of fear and desire for his judge after death to look the other way.
The lyrics about "taking her there" might be about how he "recruited" rosemary when she was a teen cuz she had problems at home with her rapist father, so she had that psychological need he could exploit.
oNYAANo I never considered it was about the west's but I understood it that this song was about a child killer.
I always thought the victim was called rosemary and the killer justified his actions by believing that rosemary would go to heaven.. Your explanation makes sense too!
oNYAANo That's the theory, but there are too many illogical phrases that don't fit. He's talking to rosemary, saying "why can't we just look the other way" that would mean him and rosemary looking the other way, NOT a third party like god looking the other way from the writer's crimes. Plus he says Rosemary is the religious one. "Heaven restores YOU in life" which also means she is still alive. And if this is based on a letter he wrote while in prison, how is she coming with him? how is he leaving her 'waiting in the van'? How is she weightless or exotic or semi-erotic the first of which is definitely impossible. "sensitive to faith not denial"? that doesn't mean anything. Faith is not the opposite of denial. And being sensitive doesn't say whether you ARE faithful or not. Being sensitive to fire doesn't mean you specifically are 700F. Who's Peyton and why's she on trial? A lifespan with no cell mate? Who's born in prison? wouldn't rosemary have been fred's cell mate if he was speaking figuratively? long way back from what to where?
Its about Fred And Rosemary West.
GregMHouse part of it is about dreams he has in prison....death row prisoners don't have cell mates. Heaven is eternal life. Peyton is another word for rumers or gossip. But I.d.k. that could explain some of it.
Today I will be listening to mainly Interpol, maybe half the time!
Oh lord this music video scared the hell out of me when I was younger. It still does, but I love this band.
If anyone cares, I'm currently trying to restore the puppet from this video.
Instagram: Norman_is_evil
Heroin is a helluva drug, I wish you the best!
Me encanta el bajo c:
Mr Blossom you like gorillaz like me
Always my favorite from Interpol
First heard this on Dutch Radio two years ago, coach tripping to Amsterdam, first trip abroad on my own and loving it. Good memories.
Am I the only one who is more bothered by the fact that puppet doesn't have eyebrows?
Or nostrils
or lips
or eyelashes
Goobli bloo! give him a break. he was in an accident after all
Goobli bloo! poor norman, leave the creppy puppet alone
it's such a nice song until you find out it's about serial killers. okay.
+Kerrine Riley yeah my friend did the same and its about two serial killers who killed teenage girls check genius.com
I believe you can safely assume he just liked the tune and didn't read into it too much. Either that or, well, you know, death.
I was really shocked when my son told me this...isn't it meant to be about Fred and Rose West?...
Kerrine Riley
I remember when that story broke..... the Wests..it was only 40 odd miles away..it was like a horror movie made real.
Every few years there is a ghastly story like this that emerges..in the 1980's, it was Denis Nielsen with a houseful of corpses, and in the 1970's the Yorkshire Ripper, and in the 1960's the Moors Murders.. makes you wonder what is going on now.......hidden away [for the moment anyway]
such a great song, I never get tired of it.
5 yrs later still haunting me with this tune randomly!
idk when it came out in was just using the published date.sorry ahead of time
I fucking love this song and have no clue why lol
Yo, we're a beginning indie rock band. We'd really appreciate it if you take a listen to some of our songs.
Idk why u all tripping saying the puppet looks creepy. I think he's quite the handsome young man ;o
fantastic band.....beautiful video
Forgot about this song I love it. Taped it on fuse on VHS loong time ago . Used to play it all the time before I had a computer even . Just greeeat
the puppet reminds me Jared Leto in Requiem for a Dream
The puppet reminds me of Bernard Sumner from The New Order
Considering how much Interpol tries to be Joy Division in later albums/songs, you might be on to something there zombiekid209 :)
The puppet reminds me the Muppet Show (???) I love it :3
cosmoinstant cierto!
same,
Love how no one seems to notice this video is sped up. I realize it's an attempt to avoid a copyright take down, but it ruins the song...
I like it better that way
+zGunner the video already ruins the song...... are you not seeing what i am seeing
+zGunner u r so right its like a 1/4 time faster or something i like original heaps better
Not only that, but the uploaded flipped the video to avoid copyright and put ads on it
oh goddammit. you just ruined it. I cant unhear it. and im on a 3g network, so this shit takes a while to buffer. xD
I have been listening to this song since it was released and have never gotten sick of it
Brilliant song and great video. ☺
this song is awesome. I think it is about pretending when you are alive and pretending you won't die.
i think it is about him getting into a car crash and hitting some girl Rosemary then he gets charged with vehicular manslaughter and goes to jail since he sings about "a sentimental jury" and "it took a life span with no cellmate" and "why cant we just look the other way" this song always gives me shivers down my back at the end
+Lone flint2000 it's about fred and rosemary west serial killers in England in the 90s
It's about a pair of psychopaths
puppet definitely made to resemble ian curtis
it's the eyes :D
Yeah, it looks like him. Still a horrible video
+orion k who?
+NEG Toxic3Dcats the singer from Joy Division
The Dance....
Dayum, I forgot what a melancholic song this is....I thank god i heard it again.
absolute CLASSIC.
I have the puppet....I bought it on E bay. But it won't stay in its damn box! Every morning its out of its box and its ALWAYS looking the other way. : ( I'm a little worried:( :( :(
Hahaha
Buy it a friend
"hey puppet just stay in that way
Hey why can't you stay in other wasy
Why can you stare the other way"?
😅
onenotused Shit son, i'd buy it from ya. I'd love to see how they made the puppet's face so expressive.

Im 16 and this song is a big memory of my Childhood, i remember thinking the puppet is real when i was like 4 or sum and always until i found out its a animatronic, Great Memories
This is the first time I've ever heard this song or seen this video.
And now I have it repeating.
Did anyone notice that the whole video is mirrored?
Of course it doesn't matter that much because it's the music that's the most important but still.
Qqaasrc tree a Youngblood Orinoco ultimate in the morning. I have a good time to time. Ig
its for the copyright i think
Its for copyright reasons see the flipped M-tv-2 ?!
Did he die in the end??!! :( This video always made me cry. He was just in a bad accident and everytime I hope he makes it alive. Then I get to the end and remember he will never make it. :(
I've been looking for this, for such a long time!
Wonderful song and video. It is so bizarre and brilliant!
that doll is creepy as shit
need to point out the obvious
Kristina Martines point point point! look the other way
+Kristina Martines i'm afraid.
I could be wrong, but I think Interpol has a fan base like the Smiths, and Joy Division. You have to be decently intelligent to enjoy them. It's great.
Light Buzzkill and depressed
love interpol!
I love this video.
I used to watch this on mtv video.
I wish I had this album
