Tamara Miansarova won the VIII festival of youth and students in 62 with this song and then the international song festival of Sopot in 63. The way the short film conveys the horrors of war is so detailed; around 1:41, the focus transitions from the soldier shooting to the one in the background, with a horrified / shocked expression. Even the shooting soldier's expression seems to change during the transition, from a look of anger to regret.
This trailer showed how that German kid was all excited for war on the truck and then when he was in battle he was stunned. crazy man. The horrors of war.

@@Fulcrox Yeah. That was the case a lot in WW1. German POWs would help out American/British as much as possible on the Western front. They’d carry wounded, cook, and provide medical aid. They were friends with the soldiers and would hang out with them at night. But by WW2 everyone hated each other so much it wasn’t very common. Really the only people that had some sort of civil encounters were Americans and Germans.

There was a book written many years ago about the Algonquin Regiment of Canada - called Warpath, from when the boys of Northern Ontario were trained, sent to the east coast, stole a train and went for a joyride, went to England then to fight in Europe. Amazing book. Worth a read if you can find one.

The way the short film conveys the horrors of war is so detailed; around 1:41, the focus transitions from the soldier shooting to the one in the background, with a horrified / shocked expression. Even the shooting soldier's expression seems to change during the transition, from a look of anger to regret.

If only it wasnt an ideological conflict of extermination and that actually happened, Russians and Germans hated each other at this point in the war, cause we're talking....44 or 45 because of the T34-85s, "German" was the most vile thing you could call someone in Soviet Russia at this point, and Germans were indoctrinated to see these people as nothing but barbarians at this point, which led to LOTS OF WARCRIMES on both sides throughout the 4 years of war.
Its depressing when you dig into this conflict and realize things like that didnt happen often, if ever on that front

@@Fulcrox Yeah. That was the case a lot in WW1. German POWs would help out American/British as much as possible on the Western front. They’d carry wounded, cook, and provide medical aid. They were friends with the soldiers and would hang out with them at night. But by WW2 everyone hated each other so much it wasn’t very common. Really the only people that had some sort of civil encounters were Americans and Germans.

Also there were Soviet and German generals, who allowed the enemy soldiers captured by them to look for their fallen generals and bury them with respect and military honors.

See, this just makes me think whoever was in charge of these things just wanted to make a piece of art, so they made a pact with the typical mobile corporation.
There was a book written many years ago about the Algonquin Regiment of Canada - called Warpath, from when the boys of Northern Ontario were trained, sent to the east coast, stole a train and went for a joyride, went to England then to fight in Europe. Amazing book. Worth a read if you can find one.
