The original Japanese version was a number 1 song in 1963. This version reached number 3 in 1981. The 4 PM’s version made it to number 8 in 1994. I think it is about time for another singer/group to cover this song and make it a hit again !
Yes. You should hear this Sakamoto Yuka.
Selena also recorded it in Spanish, I think in early 90s before she was murdered. Her version is awesome!
@@maggiejennings6399she recorded it in the late 80s for her 1989 album “Selena”
The original
Agree 100%!
it's 2022 and this song is still haunting me. Great version by two beautiful women.
this song has haunted me for years. it will always have a place in my heart.
You ain't kiddin...
I just found it. Tho, I've known it, subconsciously, over the years. Beautiful song.
A beautiful, beautiful song that haunts my heart with memories
Same me i remember the argila
I remember sitting at a bar in tiyland hereing the original
Love this and the original Japanese version by Kyu Sakamoto
Kyu sakamoto
何年たっても、心に響く寂しく、優しく勇気のわくメロディーですね。
Originally recorded in Japanese in 1963. I wish he could also have sung it in English, because the orchestra accompanying him is outstanding and does not miss a beat!
still listening in 2020.. wish we can go back in time when this song was out and have one last conversation/laugh with our loved ones we lost! beautiful memories growing up on this song
Japanese, English and Spanish versions of this masterpiece are simply awesome.
I perform this song in all those languages, but also in Norwegian. I love it!
I've always loved the original title, which actually makes sense: "Ue o Muite Arukou"
(I look up when I walk)
Still brings a tear...
The lyrics, the beat this song brings out the best in a true classic💜here in 2021.
I love this song. It leaves me in tears.
I dedicate this version to all of whom I loved that passed away!
I've always been intrigued at the beauty of the lyrics to this song. I just recently compared the lyrics of the original song to this version and wish I knew how the artist got to this version from the original. Whenever I hear "...Untouchable memories...." it always and I mean always puts a lump in my throat and my eyes well up with tears at the raw emotion these simple words capture.
Best version super awesome
Just mello and relaxing music for my lunch break
No matter in which language, this is a lovely song
You got that right
Alfred Wong God yes u took your luv from me I'm sad so sad
One of my favorites finally in English.
there is a japenese version by Rachel Reyes
Song don’t worry
You
What a Beautiful song...and done so well by this band. Sad and Haunting melody captures the pain and joy of love.... ~
Like the morning dew drops left by the cling-ing rain upon a spider's web .Thank you for this lovely song .Sayonara
Love this song still listening to it in 2022
Finding this production of this beautiful song with a female vocalist was/ is a treasure. Thank you!
You're welcome :-)
@@RachelReyesphiona14ph god bless you for posting the english words so we could finally know what he was singing about with a smile on his face the entire time. hugs,
bgordon, ames, iowa, usa
I want this to be played at my funeral, I love it so much, but prefer the Japanese version.
I don't mean to pry but why ? I'm listening to it right now and reading the comments and saw yours . It reminds me of my first love :(
My friend named kaori can sing the Japanese version
The Japanese Version is darker, more appropriate for a funeral. Taste of Honey did a good job with the lyrics. The reimagined English Lyrics are more of a love song then an expression of grief.
If they won't play it at your funeral, just refuse to go.
I guess I'm not the only one that had thought about it. It's a beautiful sad song. I cried every time I listened.
Absolutely love this song
Discovered it January 8, 2024. I love it
The version of my young manhood. Bittersweet like the lyrics and the melody.
I remember this from childhood, still don’t know Japanese language but it set in my heart a feeling of sadness that is recognized immediately
Old is gold, this song is so beautiful.
27 and love this song.
Actually, 10 and loved this song.
Lol
Atlast! I've Found this song!!! It kept on playing on my mind but with only the first few lines I know... and can't continue singing but just humming....
I love this song
It's so beautiful song. I love both version.
So beautiful. ❤️
Wow ❤️ so beautiful
So beautiful!
Beautiful
I loved original one whistling was fabulous
English version makes you understand 🙏🤗❤️
It's all because of you I'm feelin' sad and blue
You went away, now my life is just a rainy day
I love you so, how much you'll never know
You've gone away and left me lonely
Untouchable memories seem to keep haunting me
Of love so true, that once turned all my gray skies blue
But you disappeared, now my eyes are filled with tears
I'm wishin' you were here with me
Soft with love are my thoughts of you
Now that you're gone, oh, I don't know what to do
[Chorus]
If only you were here, you'd wash away my tears
The sun would shine, and once again you'd be mine, all mine
But in reality, you and I will never be
'Cause you took your love away from me, oh
If only you were here, you'd wash away my tears
The sun would shine, and once again you'd be mine, all mine
But in reality, you and I will never be
'Cause you took your love away from me
Oh, baby, you took your love away from
Me
[Outro]
Sayonara
Sweet memories 💖
I must agree with you thumbs up
What a treat 2 finally hear or in English be able to understand the lyrics....but I still love the original sung by the original artist...it was musical.
These are not the lyrics of the original.
Each version has a different theme, so the music is similar but not equivalent meanings of the songs.
Listen to the version by Susan Boyle - it is excellent too
Who ever you are..these videos are so very beautiful!!
Thank you :-)
OMG, OMG, OMG, what a beautiful song, what a beautiful voice, what a beautiful cover. 💓💓💓💓
Awesome 👍 beautiful ❤️ pure joy nothing but deep brain soothing thoughts, images, places and things 🙏 in your life that was great even if for only a split moment not a lifetime 🤫🕊️🙏👀!!!!

Beautiful song 🎵

Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu October 6, 2020. Farewell from Hawaii !!!!
awesome

feeling...in love? thank you so much.
Yessirrr ooohhwwee 💯😎 best original version of that song fasho 🙏💯 listen to the percussion sound effect ❤😁👀!!!!!
Timeless
There are so many versions, but this by far is the best. .Awesome.
bob harrison One version never anticipated: contemporary Christian, I mean, many secular melodies have had artists of this genre, such as the song Lovely Day, Wendy Green (Chill Out/Lounge Worship) and Out Of Eden made that song actually better by repeating the melody in different forms and also replacing certain lyrics to make it into a Christian song.
bob harrison Selena version is better
This is one of the songs where the original trumps them all.
Kyu Sakamoto's version is still the one that gives me chills, and I wasn't even born when it was released in 1961.
bob harrison I like the Sokomoto version best I think. The words are a bit different. I always loved this one, but after hearing that one today, it really got to my heart more.
❤ love this song ❤
Reminds me of every relationship I ever had.
Beautiful song..thank you
Nita Buena Belgica You're welcome :-)

I love both versions equally.

Mil millones de estrellas , por ser tan bella ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜♥️💜💕💔💔
Seen to keep haunting me
I was just dumped by someone really important to me, and this lyrics definitely show my feeling now. Sayonara...
untouchable memories.........
For the love , I hope you have a good life my time is near & yet it's hard to say the words to you or family but I lived a good life & to you all have a happy & wonderful life , remember me in yours prays , always a guardian watching over you & family ,Love You with All My Heart ❤️❤️
Some songs get in printed in ones heart reason cause of a soul that left your soul but just forgive n let them be happy
This is gonna sound totally random, but watching Wano in the anime One Piece brought me here & made me think of this song🥰
Hikaru Utada is the artist who sings this song
This is not the same song as sung by Kyu Sakamoto. While I like song its not a translation or the original.
I agree, nice, but not the real thing
I dont agree when my love never be, it should ever be
..omg 😱 Domo TY Mahalo Merci Gratsi Gracias 😅 ty
Every time I hear this song I think of a special girl name NaNa
This songs haunted me of my first girlfriend with my first love, kiss and hug my girlfriend NJET RUIZ your still in my heart.
I to lost my first girlfriend, but that was back in 1976.
See, even old guys have one true love that will always be in their hearts. Her name was Diane, and I will keep her there and wish her a full and happy life. Guys, don't loose your Diane as I did. Keep and adore your lady as much as you can or you will regret it the rest of your lives. Or you will run across a song like this, and she will come back to your mind again. You may smile hearing this, but you WON'T have her.
A beautiful song ifrom taiwan
this version is just plain sad unlike the translation i saw yesterday it's cute and sad! 💔💔💔TT
Missing sons
In the original they whistle..and it's a song about students in Japan protesting American soldiers still there..it's not about love...
That's close. It's not about the students protesting per se, but an expression of dejection and disappointment because the protest movement did not achieve its goal.
The lyrics were intentionally crafted so they could be interpreted to be about any lost lost (or lost cause, I guess).
Bullshit...original a lost love song
That's a load of crap! It's a song about losing love.
This is a great song.. But its not what kyu Sakamoto says at all... But the song is still very nice... I sing both put together ... then I say his words at the end in english...
SUKIYAKI ~💕
My song for karaoke
The English song title is unpleasant.
"Walking upward" is the Japanese song title.
He has a broken heart (something sad) and the starry night road
He is back home. He wants to cry, but he puts up with it and walks.
Still, tears come out. He keeps tears from spilling down his cheeks
Walk upwards. He sees a starry sky vague with tears.
This scene is clearly visible to the Japanese.
The expression of sadness may vary from country to country.
Maybe it's more sad than crying.
Wish they would have sung this song with the words that it traslated with on the origional version.
A FAV OF MINE,FROM 1979
This is the version I heard first.
Torn between this version and the 4PM version.... They're different, and I think the edge goes to 4PM. Better vocals and the harmonies are fantastic.... But don't forget the original. Perfect in its own way.
Song written for all who had been ghosted.
The ultimate destressing song.
LOL why
@@DxModel219 Why not?
Cinthia 9 oh sorry i thought you said ultimate “depressing” song
@@DxModel219 Depressing? LOL, nope!
Cinthia 9 LOL well this song is pretty depressing. the dude went away and she’s feeling blue
This is the same thing in English the first one you heard in Japanese he was the original he wrote the song
2019
最好聽的是這一版 壽喜燒 可惜我不適合 好聽 音樂無國界嘛
this is not Sukiyaki a very nice reply to the male /original version..... and should be titled as that ............ the lyrics at best are just that even a english translation of the original are no where alike to this.................
correct
It was written in the aftermath of WW2 when Japan was bombed
Natsukashii na Danna san no koto o omidashiteiru
