- The Netflix live action Avatar The Last Airbender just gave us a new reveal with some more promo's around the character of King Bumi as well as some awesome looking action sequences. We are going to break it all down in this video! Enjoy!
Avatar: The Last Airbender is an upcoming American adventure fantasy television series. It is a live-action adaptation of the animated television series of the same name (2005-2008). The series is scheduled for a 2024 premiere on Netflix and will consist of eight 1-hour-long episodes.

I always found Iroh throwing whole ass boulders around half naked instead of bending a stretch… (given his age/physicality) but FIRE CHAINS To cut rock!? now that’s some Dragon of the West level technique. And its details like this that elevate the material. Big ups to whoever came up with this.

To be fair, Bumi, a 112 bending master who’s still in great shape, was always going to look a little off in live-action.
I would have chosen an actual old actor who may not be very fit and active but is made fit by cgi and such. Right now he looks like some Disney character.

I think Kyoshi is gonna fill the Roku role in book one because they’re trying to put off Aang finding out about the comet for timing purposes. So he “meets” Kyoshi first on Kyoshi island to begin his spiritual journey/connection with past avatars, and eventually he will connect with Roku at the avatar temple to find out about the comet. As much as I love Roku I think this is the right move for the timing of the show because it won’t diminish Roku’s part in eventually warning Aang about the comet. It’ll be interesting to see more of Kyoshi, too.

I was worried at first that they were completely replacing Roku with kyoshi which was about to piss me off. Cause idc how much ppl love that woman, I would hate for her to take Roku’s place in aang’s journey. But this is actually more interesting. Him meeting the different avatars in different nations. A really great way to get more avatar lore and could make it even more meaningful when he decides to ask for their advice towards the end. I do hope this doesn’t diminish the amount of times aang goes into the avatar state as himself rather than the others showing up. Cause I hear something about Kuruk showing up in the North Pole and idk if that’s supposed to replace aang merging with the spirit, really hope not.
Perhaps I’m just remaining cautiously optimistic until proven otherwise but I don’t think Roku’s role in Aang’s journey will be completely diminished. My guess is that bringing in Roku is just shifted back a bit so their relationship begins later in the series. Because he’s the most recent avatar and his entire storyline is instrumental to both Aang and Zuko’s journey, I have to believe Roku will still be the biggest role. But as you said, it’s less of a payoff to have the water and air avatars there at the end of the series because we don’t know much about them. My hope is that we get a little more of each of them which will make that moment even bigger, without taking away from Roku. Basically, adding something extra without taking away. Of course I could be wrong or that may not be a great approach even if I’m right, but like I said, I’m staying hopeful until I have a reason not to be! :)
I mean we know Aang still goes to the fire nation temple so who else would he meet there if not Roku? I still think he's meeting him because for one we know he's been cast and two they might be talking about something else there.
I don't know...Sometimes I think they brought Kyoshi earlier because of the character's hype, but I don't know if she'll replace Roku. Furthermore, he was cast, and there are scenes in the trailers showing the island where he finds Aang and explains the comet thing... Let's wait and see
that first shot they showed of Bumi a while ago had me feeling kinda eh, but every new scene we see him in just looks better and better. So excited!

There are certain things we don’t talk about. The “movie” is one of those things. In fact, if for any reason you do get it for like a present or something, here’s what you do. I borrowed this from Yzma: put the movie in a box, and then put that box inside another box and then mail that box to yourself. And when it arrives, *YOU SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* Or, to save on postage, just don’t get it.
I have every bit of confidence that this will not disappoint. If you are going into this show looking for a frame by frame, beat by beat recreation, you will be missing something that can be great. If you want perfection, go watch the original show. Don't nit-pick and just enjoy seeing the world of the Avatar in live action. People spend so much time looking for things to complain about, they miss everything else.

I'm not expecting a 1 to 1, but cutting out pieces for brevity is one thing. Cutting out character flaws and growth is another.

As a South Asian person, I love what they did for Bumi's outfit!
They definitely looked at the spin-off ATLA media to achieve that look, which I'm glad they did because there's a lot more expansion on the cultural elements in the spin off media. In the video games, you can see there is more South Asian and Southeast Asian influences in Omashu like the Indian-style and Vietnamese-style turbans that the Omashu citizens wear in the video game. So I expect to see more of that in the live action series.

To me, in a lot of ways, adapting Bumi to live action is like adapting Buggy or Mihawk from One Piece to live action. He's a cartoonish character (a 112 year old man who also is childish, ripped and a master Earthbender) but you should embrace who he is as a character in live action as much as possible which it seems they've done. Love his clothes resembling more closely his South Asian/Indian heritage and the voice sounds great. I think as long as they capture the spirit of Bumi, he doesn't need to be or look exactly like the cartoon.
I hope those Zuko knick knacks don’t replace the actual Avatar STATUES lighting up at the Southern Air Temple….

The data explained in this video is very good, I just wanted to add that the statuette that seems unknown is actually of the Airbender avatar before Aang, Yangchen. You can see the arrow on the forehead traditional symbol of the novadas aire, finally, although it is not mentioned much the appearance of Teo, the other speeder who flies with Aang for a few seconds in the trailer. I just wanted to bring this detail to light, so that it won't be a surprise when it appears in the Netflix series 😏
To be clear I mentioned that one of the statues was Yangchen, I was referring to the one that's in the middle of Kuruk and Kyoshi

That Aang line is NOT word for word from the cartoon. In the cartoon he says "Looking for me?" It takes so little time to check. BUT he nailed the delivery and sounds EXACTLY like Aang.

The one getting hit with water bending is probably one of the pirates katara stole the scroll from they're probably mixing the zhong zhong and pirates episode together in that scene.

It’s so funny to me how many of the fans went from “if they say their names correctly, I’ll take it” to complain about Bumi’s design or the changes they’ll make to Sokka and how the cast is too Asian,etc. Like, just decide, fgs. There’s no way to please everyone, so you either take this and try to enjoy it with an open mind, or take the 2010 movie, or just the animated series, or better yet, just make your own live action.
My friend I couldn’t agree with you more it definitely seems like we are just living through a time where any person will find anything to get mad about or complain about. There are some justified criticisms where I can understand it but then you have your fake people who will just say whatever they deem necessary to say because the money is there for it or they want the engagement. That’s why I can’t stand some of the nitpick weird complaints people throw at the show.
As a lifelong fan of ATLA I really don't know why so many fans are so f'n nitpicky about the show. Every single detail I have seen be nitpicked, the costumes, the style of costumes, the color of costumes, the setting, the cinematography, the actors, the lines, the VFX, on and on and on. For damn sakes can't people just accept the show as it is and be THRILLED that it's a million times better than the 2010 movie? This show is going to be epic! Bumi has always been my favorite character and from what we see in this clip, I am personally satisfied and can't wait for the show to drop! (he even sounds like Bumi!) I'll be binge watching from the moment they're accessible in my Netflix account!
Hey man I get it I agree a lot of the nitpicking is annoying especially with the cosplay comments I see it just doesn't make sense to me. I think reasonable criticism is fine but cherry picking certain things to prove a point is just weird to me.

Maybe that scene with Zuko writing in his journal will be an intro/summary for after the Air Nomad genocide 🤔 But I guess it would be weirdly timed since Katara and Sokka first sees Aang then Zuko and Uncle Iroh sees the light from the ship… just a thought

I noticed that the avatar in question has an arrow on their head, which leads me to believe that they are an airbender. My guess is that the avatar is Guru Laghima, who was referred to as the Air Nomads' "most legendary guru" by Avatar Yangchen. According to Zaheer, Laghima was the wisest airbender who ever lived. He discovered the secret to weightlessness, which allowed him to unlock the airbending ability of flight.

i'd say part of the big reason is that they have a HUGE trauma from the past movie that should not be mentioned which understandable but all of the marketings netflix has done so far has been great especially people who worked on it are passionate and respecting the original source material so i'm pretty sure if it turns out mid it might be decent 7/10 but i doubt it, idk i just have a good feelings about this show might atleast get a solid 8/10 just like one piece but we'll see, fingers crossed.🤞

I think some of us knew King Bumi wasn't always going to look great in live action. But at least it's still decent. I don't think hiring a real actor who is old would be possible. Because they can't do stunts no more respects to the elder as always though. A young actor as king Bumi really doesn't look all that bad. I wonder who's the actor taking on the role of King Bumi he looks familiar or could just be me.

Perhaps you didn't notice, but at 05:10 when Kyoshi is shown the eyes are glowing. This, combined with what we saw in the first trailer from a couple weeks ago, seems to confirm that they are going with the idea that when Aang goes into the avatar state that he takes on the physical appearance and attributes of a previous avatar. Perhaps this is why they decided to make Aang going into the avatar state much more selective.
You're right and also this would line up with them maybe not wanting to do it again in the Avatar Day episode if they adapt Book 2 for Season 2

Thank god! a channel that appreciates the trailers. So much negativity has been circling around regarding the "MINOR" changes, YES! that Sokka sexist toning down issue, I call it minor. People really be crying! they didn't say that they completely remove that aspect of sokka but just tone it down. remember that the stories we gonna get will be compressed. At this point just watch the show then make your nitpicks by then.

8:54 I think that could be avatar setzo it kind of looks like him. We know very little about him except that he did extremely well with building wealth and power for the fire nation revolutionizing their industries. Which became a problem later on because since the fire nation did so well it made Sozin want to “spread” the prosperity and wealth the fire nation had.

Tbh I think either way is valid, but I'm curious since.. everyone here is a fan of the OG show so... it might be best to just go all in and not hold back. But I would also understand staying a bit spoiler free for the first few days/1st week and then perhaps dissecting each episode in detail.

I am willing to bet they did a few test with Old man Ang in the cart and just couldn't get it to pass in live action. By that I mean there is no way anyone would believe this kid who had to make a make shift old man outfit is actually an old man

well in the animation, the first tease for Roku is from the Hei Bai episode with Fang and the full is on pt2 of the Solstice, I think they plan on making this a surprise cause Roku will reveal a major plot.

The earth ending looks great but I’m not totally convinced of the makeup for Bumi. It doesn’t look bad but kinda distracting. But his voice is really good.

In fairness to Denzel I think a lot of his recent stuff was a little masked due to his age but this is like high octane action and not hand to hand combat like what Denzel does in the Equalizer movies

I think Netflix is learning from the mistakes of the movie. They are making every effort to show that the bending is not going to be some Ballywood dance number.

The unrecognizable air avatar statue next to Kyoshi may just be a filler doll to have more set pieces from the culture. It kind of looks like Buddha doll

@@uncleirohsteashop I meant it more as maybe they were using a traditional doll to have more props that represent the culture that inspired the world. Like maybe they saw the Asian doll and just wanted to put it in for aesthetic so they made it in to an airbender avatar.

I really dont like that zuko is defending himself in the agni kai, the whole reason he was banished was that he refused to fight.
Technically defending yourself doesn’t mean you’re fighting though right? Maybe he never once fire bended against Ozai. Maybe every single time he did attack Zuko it was just out of pure defense. You can refuse to fight and not attack somebody at the same time.

I have a question in particular scene where Katara and Sokka leaping but does it mean we won't see them as turning into the crystals (if you know you know) and how they (w Aang) are riding together on the slides?
Aang might have gotten off the slide already and left them there. We don't know yet if the rock candy is coming but we'll have to wait and see.
Great actor playing a great character. Only nitpick is having a fairly young actor playing an old man. I do agree that it will probably be jarring at first and I think We'll get used to it quickly.
