    Hopefully, I could clarify a bit because it is actually confusing. I'm an Arab, so when I was a kid, it is true that we saw everyone from all colors are Arabs, as we don't conceptualize colors like you in the USA or the West, if the guy is black we call him dark, if the guy is blonde we call him blonde, if the guy is brown we call him brown, but we do not have a concept of difference between people based on color, and that's why we say Arab then we might describe the color. Moreover, there is no such thing as Arab culture per se, most Arab countries have their own cultures, traditions, history, colors, and even cuisines. The only thing they have in common is the language, and most probably nothing else. Nevertheless, they all came together only under Islam, and never under Arab anything.

      Brother you are correct, in your country , but in america they classify Arabs as white people. America has divided the people upon race first not language so that's why they tell u on a job application what race are u
      Furthermore overseas isn't america not even close , it's built upon the backs of slavery and its intention its very different. This is many overseas Muslims come but don't read about the place before they come besides it being not recommended to do so according to some thoughts. It's home of the brave land of the free.

      @abdulrhmanba4769 yup aki that is what I was saying. I speak reading and write arabic but america doesn't look to me as being bilingual no matter what. This is why in america alotnof Muslims get confused from the Middle East when they come here and they so much want to with people whom they see as being superior . Superior people get served better in america
      We don't the legislation even a thought of it. Our prophet warned the Arabs not to entertain this form of racism but people see as a service a door to achieve more. So america has palestian classified as being white here. I work with them. But talking about this Muslims don't like it.

    Important points made here. It's essential that we teach our children what it means to find the balance. We need to facilitate a mentality where they are able to recognise what muslims do when we find ourselves in different circumstances. There are no shortcuts. This can only come from the nurture of the Quran and sunnah relayed by good teachers. If we as parents are not able to teach that to our children ourselves, we should find institutions/environments that do. We should put ourselves in those environments Inshā'Allāh. May Allah Azzawajal guide us and keep us guided, Ameen.

    1. We are all American Muslims..regardless of our roots or colours.
    2. Arabic is a critical language to learn to understand our Quran and Sunnah
    3. Arabian culture should be embraced esp when concerning aspects which are part and parcel of Islam (like the benefits of eating dates or dressing modestly etc.).
    4. Other backgrounds and languages are the icing on top and flavours which makea us nations and races to know one another..but ultimately not our priority to latch onto in the grand scheme of flourishing as Muslim American societies moving forward.

Sufis i know are blind followers and some salafis are too. Obviously islam is balance. I don’t expect you to try and tackle this issue because it is very complex when it comes to american culture and particularly what is considered black culture. Many black muslims suffer from an identity crisis because many of us raise our children colorless and with an unfettered cultural approach because, "black culture" has been transitioning since the onset of this country and still continues to do so. It's confusing because "black culture" is truly undefined, but classified into multiple stereotypes in which we often are not very proud of. In short, we're Americans that's our culture but our social construct has made it difficult for us to define who we are, and that seems to be by design. So, understand that it is more troubling when our muslims brothers and sisters are proudly waving their flags, their cultural attire, sharing their food, language and etc, while their many of their fellow Muslim Americans (black) struggle to celebrate a culture, for them, is looked at negatively and remains undefined. والله المستعان

    • @ChicagoThomas
      @ChicagoThomas 3 месяца назад +2

      I can't all the way agree with you here. I'll tackle on point tho. I attend both a Majority African American Mosque and a more diverse Mosque usually dominated by Middle Eastern cultures. At the latter however they do make it a big deal to not only acknowledge but celebrate Black history and not just the month but throughout the year emphasizing the struggle we've gone through as a people. It's done through various educational programs and is even dedicated through Khutbahs every now and then. Not to say this is common based on my visits to several Mosques in different states just to let you know that does exist within the Ummuah

    • @husayn
      @husayn 3 месяца назад +1

      @ChicagoThomas Shukran for sharing your experience in this phenomenal community that you speak of. I can't fathom what you're describing looks like, but it's interesting, to say the least, alhamdulillah. Nonetheless, I don't see how this addresses what I mentioned. I think that the simple usage of the phrase "black history" substantiates my point. What is that exactly? Does every dark pigmented individual fit that category? No! Who and what are we celebrating? Being in a class by ourselves? We are still trying to figure out where it all begins and ends. In reality, labeling a people "black" doesn't pin down and define "black culture", which is the heart of the discussion. The American ethnic classification system is flawed. We just couldn't be Americans, but rather "black or colored or negro or African American etc". We culturally classified as less than, the lowest. Please be clear that I'm not indicting any of my brothers and sisters in Islaam of anything because for the believers, it's all about taqwa. It's just a difficult discussion to have because us indigenous Americans of darker complexion are direct by product of fanatical oppression and manufactured thoughts as to who we actually are. One of our biggest issues is we have very little control over our own image as a collective. So, unfortunately, we're often projected (defined) to rest of the world as an ignorant people, violent, drug dealers and users, rappers, sports figures and entertainers. Some of which we celebrate in "black history".
      والله المستعان

      @@husayn I'm sorry but I'm not going to get into a nuanced discussion with you trying to be politically correct. I'm not here trying to earn ticks on the 'like' button. The fact that you don't see race is somewhat admirable but it isn't anchored at all in reality especially in the USA. Oppressed people who stand up to and overcome their oppressors should be recognized and celebrated at every turn in the historical and present day annals. Not brushed away through rosy colored lenses of how you feel the world should be because we're a long way from that reality. From my Palestinian brothers and sisters to my brothers and sisters in Sudan to us here in America to the very Muslim Ummuah we are today. Every culture is unique and to ignore those struggles is to be complicit in them. But yeah even though Islam is very tied to arabic it's in no way an Arab thing, Prophet Mohammad pbuh was not sent specifically to the arabs, he was sent to the whole world, and what's so beautiful about it is how anyone from anywhere can be a Muslim and am even better Muslim than any arab out there, the kid was innocent and haven't put much thought into it that's why he thought it's an arab thing therefore him being Muslim makes him Arab, but no little kid, you can be yourself, black, white, whatever, you can be yourself and still be completely Muslim.
    Another reason, and actually in my opinion this is a good thing, is because arabs don't refere to their skin colors much, they won't call themselves black or white arab, to they they're just arabs.

      I'm sorry but this just isn't true. I'm not sure how Arabic people behave in Arabic majority nations because I've never been there. InshAllah I'll be taking Hajj in 2025 and I'll have a more intimate encounter on the subject. In America however I have heard many stories from my brothers and sisters particularly African Americans where they have been to several Arabic Based Mosques and felt completely ostracized. Even people who frequented the same Masjid for years but can't name a brother or sister whom they communicate with from they're Masjid. I myself have experience blatant racism from people residing from 'middle eastern ' cultures. I've witnessed my brothers and sisters on the way to and leaving Juhmuah give the greetings to middle easterners just to see them not reciprocated or some make the effort not to even look in their direction. So to say that behavior dosent exists among that culture is disingenuous at best. They're are several majority African American sunni Mosques being formed today and the majority of the attendees will tell you they finally found a place where they feel welcomed in what we practice. So no, I don't believe just because you say it that the Arab culture is above the ugliness we experience in this country. At this point I know better, and ALLAH(AWJ) knows best..

    In europe people with migrant background don't assimilate,they immigrate, some assimilate but most stay like hanging between their culture and oppose European culture more or less..
    although heavily influenced by it.

    I think it can be difficult for Muslims in the west, specifically hijab is because we have to cover our head and wear loose clothing and everything considered but sometimes it’s hard to find western outfits that cover the awra properly so we often will buy things that were imported from Turkey or other Muslim countries, and our told that we are imitating Arabs… However, if we do happen to wear clothing, that is western, and hijabify it we are told that we are imitating the nonbelievers… darned if you do & darned if you don’t situation.
    For men, it seems a bit more simple, because it just comes down to perhaps not wearing a thobe & kufi because they are not obligatory… the hijab is already seen as an eastern practice, despite veiling also being a practice of Christians here in the west, although not as much as it used to be also not to mention that Christianity also came from the east, but somehow it’s been westernized. On one hand, I don’t mind dressing and being perceived as a foreigner, but on the other hand sometimes I don’t want to be stared at all the time, so I’ll put a baseball cap or bucket hat over my hijab, because I feel like it humanizes me to Westerners (like myself, born & raised, & reverted)… but I feel like some people might see my motivation and doing that as trying to imitate nonbelievers so it’s a bit frustrating because my family already doesn’t like me to stand out from the crowd and I do as I wear my job but I also don’t want to put any more social pressure on my family and I for upholding this religious obligation because it can be hard enough for my parents as is…

      look my sister you do not need to give anyone the impression of anything. Wear your hijab, which covers your whole body and go on with your life. Life is a test, and Allah will reward you for it. It’s our fault that we have all settled in western countries, and now the younger generations feel uncomfortable. Stay patient and Allah will help you
      It’s uncomfortable for us too when western women always want to shake our hands, and we get bad looks for our beards, but I am proud of islam and I want Allahs pleasure not theirs

    1. you judge a religion by its scripture not buy it's people or human. because humans are not perfect, we have weakness and limitation. we commit sins/crimes. every son of Adam is a Sinner, and best of those who repent and try to never do it again.
    2. don't mix religion (islam) with culture, nationalism, ethnicity etc. if it's doesn't align with Islam then you must need to reject all of them.
    in some area in some country there is still some pagan and cultural practices. because in that places people are used to follow culture too much. sometime they make their own interpretation of Quran or hadit to fit their pagan in culture practices. and this is totally against Islam.
