That was actually a harbor seal that was after the ones you threw back. Next time you come to Newport to go crabing, let me know, I have a boat and the gear. Very nice gentlemen 🤠
I continue to be impressed by the manner in which you always give thanks and respect to the animals you eat, and stress not to get greedy. Exactly the way to do it.
Oregon is such a beautiful state. Fresh seafood is always the best kind! The Fish Locker here on RUclips is a pretty good resource for costal foraging but great video! Glad you had a good time 🙂
I also love watching John's videos over on the Fish Locker channel. He lives in Cornwall but actually has really similar marine life to what we have here on the west coast US.
Love it!! I miss crabbin on the docks in Oregon so bad..makes me want to go back. We'd always get the fish heads from the fish cleaning stations from the guys coming in with their catches. Crabs love those damn fish heads. Great video!
Cheers guys! That looks good. I've never had those kind of crabs. Thanks so much for your gratefulness for Earth's bounty, you guys are an example to the world. I love Cuervo's music, the early parts have a real Jimmy Hendrix vibe!
Glad you guys had a good time out there! Actually the video turned out just fine I think. Very enjoyable 20 minutes of entertainment. Thank you brother.
It irks me the many youtubers that catch beautiful fish/seafood and say "oh I am too good for this" and they toss it back and at the end of their videos moan about how poor the fishing was. Kudos to you and accepting what the universe provided. As to crabs, crabs don't have brains like mammals you cannot compare them to yourself in any way. They have a minimal system tied between eyes and stomach and a branch out in-between that drives their legs/claws to food and that's all. They are more complex than a worm because legs only. Whacking them does nothing but push shell into the inside, bacteria into the inside and raise the risk of your own personal injury if you happen to miss and loss of food if you over whack and turn the crab into shell paste. Also, by the placement of those holes you completely missed the ganglion mass anyways.
I've been using chicken and line and a net for ever. And all ways catch a lot of crabs. I Never use a trap . Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
I always love fresh crab, when I go crabbing usually what I do is I'll tie a string around a chicken back and have a dip net and then slowly draw it up and then dip really fast to catch them before they let go LOL but you got to be quick and you can't draw them up too fast
Awesome video, James! I love Slap Ya Mama. I go on a wilderness fishing trip in Canada with my family. We can only bring so much weight, but Slap Ya Mama always goes as one of the seasonings. We end up putting it on everything!
Not sure its a good idea harvesting so close to ports or communities. Great content as always James and the music.....amazing! You guys keep doing what you are doing!!!
Oh yes. Fresh crab. Sweetest game meet I know of. // I still think you should consider moving to northern UTAH. It's smack dab in the middle of the west. You can be anywhere in 12 hours or less. Including Texas. // Enjoying my wool coat, like yours. Would have got it from your store but you were out of my size. It keeps me warm and will out last me. Thank you James.
Next time you go crbbing, put a small floa whe the three represent connct. Make sure the float is small enough just to hold the ropes up. Then when you pull your traps up, you won't knock any crabs out. If the ropes lay in the trap, t ropes could knock the crabs out of he trap when you pull up.
I'm pretty sure they were warning you not to eat a dead crab you found on the shore, because you'll get sick. 😅 but I throw mine in there straight off the ice so I've never had a problem either way.
You should get a can of tuna or cat food put a couple of holes in it . Tie to a string and leave overnight. Then go crabbing. Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Awesome trip James, it's nice to see you get out of your backyard going for a road trip all the way to Oregon. Watching you Crab fish was really enjoyable I hope the two you caught tasted really good thank you for taken us a long on this trip. I love your taste in beer James.
hey James, are is there anything 'strange' that you carry as part of your EDC or adventures? Something you picked up along your travels, like religious/spiritual or unique items? Love to hear it. Awesome video as always!!
Next time try frying a turkey leg well done it is harder for them to grab some grub crabs typically like to grab a bite and go very fast the harder it is for them to grab the better and the catch will be better
Next time, don't skip the crab butter!! Rip off that beautiful back shell, and slap some bread in all that crabby goop. Not for everyone, but as a kid grown up on the oregon coast, that's a delicacy I cannot leave behind.
Im a local and have been crabbing for a bit and have never heard of mink being used... alot of people will use shad, chicken, or salmon carcasses. Ive had better luck with salmon carcass and 2nd being shad. Honestly the red rock are less desirable but honestly they got a sweeter taste to them in my opinion. By the way the crab were still alive and moving when you dropped them in. Hitting them with the knife didnt do a thing. Good video though.
Thank you buddy for this peaceful and relaxing video! 😌 I really enjoyed it and is pretty nice to see your life from another continent where is life so different. I mean sea, fauna, flora... It's amazing!!! 😇 [Greetings from the Czech republic! 😅]

Can confirm it’s a Harbor Seal, not a Sea Lion.
I continue to be impressed by the manner in which you always give thanks and respect to the animals you eat, and stress not to get greedy. Exactly the way to do it.
always grateful for nature and its gifts
That's the "Native American" way.

So unusual not seeing the desert as your back drop, but really enjoyed the out of element, travelogue style you've portrayed here. Great video!
Used to crab off that dock in the 70's. Remember bringing up dozens at a time in those crab rings.
Man i really hope you share with Cuervo on these catch and cooks 🤣🤣

Man! I miss having crab...from Seattle to Alaska I have had crab. That was our treat.
Freaking EXCELLENT video my man! So cool! Did you take the road trip with Cuervo?
no i went with my brother
I've been using chicken and line and a net for ever. And all ways catch a lot of crabs. I Never use a trap . Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
I’ve caught a bunch of those at Mobile bay (Mobile Alabama) just setting on the end of a peer with a string some squid and a fish net.

I would be happy to show you my state, of course you have probably moved on by now.
we were only there for 2 days before having to pull up stakes
That is one thing that I have never done. It looks like it's a ton of fun. Cuervo's getting funky on that guitar. Great music 👍
I think Red Rock taste sweeter than a Dungy. It's just there isn't much meat on them.
Awesome video, James!
I love Slap Ya Mama. I go on a wilderness fishing trip in Canada with my family. We can only bring so much weight, but Slap Ya Mama always goes as one of the seasonings. We end up putting it on everything!

James, I was told to put the crab in a pot of cold water and slowly bring them to a boil. They'll never know what happened yo them.
Great video of good times! I hope C.N., got to enjoy some crab too!
Great vid just a tip I learned a while back use a set of BBQ tongs no chance of a pinch that way

What part of Oregon were you crabbing in? I live in Crescent City California right on the Oregon border...
I'm pretty sure they were warning you not to eat a dead crab you found on the shore, because you'll get sick. 😅 but I throw mine in there straight off the ice so I've never had a problem either way.

hey James, are is there anything 'strange' that you carry as part of your EDC or adventures? Something you picked up along your travels, like religious/spiritual or unique items? Love to hear it. Awesome video as always!!
not really, i tend to be more utilitarian. cuervo is more into what youre talking about, carrying a medicine bag and things like that
@@JunkyardFox i would love to see what is in Cuervos medicine bag!
Looks good. Drive safe.
Never had red crabs before. I see you ate only the claws. How about the body? Is it not good to eat?
Crab is great
Next catch&cook:
*LOBSTERS*
*BECAUSE WE EAT LIKE KINGS*

Your's the first video that actually shows eating them that's what's happening show a little more catching but the cook and eating was good
What brand of boots are you wearing ?
moonshine spirit boots. i believe the model is called crazy horse
Next time try frying a turkey leg well done it is harder for them to grab some grub crabs typically like to grab a bite and go very fast the harder it is for them to grab the better and the catch will be better
Who travels with you ?
Next time, don't skip the crab butter!! Rip off that beautiful back shell, and slap some bread in all that crabby goop.
Not for everyone, but as a kid grown up on the oregon coast, that's a delicacy I cannot leave behind.
Try pulling your trap fast, so you don't lose any crabs.
🦊🦊👍👍
I have it on good authority that this is not your first time to catch crabs

That’s not a sea lion mate, that boys just a harbor seal. Sea lion are a bit longer slicker n come in a dark brownish gold.
ah, i stand corrected. thank you for watching
WTH? Never saw anyone crab with mink before. Interesting.
Props to you for being ethical and not boiling the crabs alive.
I heard they scream if you boil them alive!!
Thank you buddy for this peaceful and relaxing video! 😌 I really enjoyed it and is pretty nice to see your life from another continent where is life so different. I mean sea, fauna, flora... It's amazing!!! 😇 [Greetings from the Czech republic! 😅]
cheers buddy, glad you could join us!
They didn’t die very well. They were still moving. That wasn’t nerves. Just dump them in a lie brother.
👍🏻
Dang it 🤬
