    Found my old fender fm212r 10 years after I sold it at a shop and bought it back just because it had a lot of memories and i can't pass up on it after I was leaning over it looking at a guitar when i found it. Sold it to an older guy on Craigslist. Well it obviously doesn't have the marshall sound I like but it's a pretty loud amp. Only pedal they had when i bought it back was one of these plexi crunch pedals. Figured why not?.. very surprising!!! Going to keep both and throw a maxon dod, chorus, suppressor and some other stuff in the mix on a pedal board. Think it'll sound awesome and do more than I expected when i bought the pedal for a budget minded build! Seriously made me rethink what a cheap pedal was. Not a plexi I agree though. More of a jcm 800 sound or marshall solid state. Very nice though. 👌

      If it sounds great with your rig, that is all that is important. The word "affordable" has really changed since I was a kid. Back when I started playing (the mid 80's) cheap meant it was no good. Basically a throw-away instrument with no redeeming qualities. Today, the word "cheap" just means easy on the wallet. This really is the golden age of gear.
      You want a Klon? There are plenty of companies making clones, and you can even get one on the affordable side too. We are spoiled when it comes to great, affordable gear. Thanks for sharing! Cheers

    OCD is the winner for me 100 percent. The nux still did what it's supposed to do and made your vox sound more like a Marshall. I'm a fan of these nux pedals.

      NUX has some great budget pedals. I've kept my Analog Delay and Chorus as they sound really darn good.

  • @kosmicwizard
    @kosmicwizard 3 года назад +1

    I don't like either, but for different reasons. The nux is nice and bright, but level and gain seem to do nothing to make the base tone you have setup any better. As for the ocd it's too dark, but I like it at both 1:34 and 2:36. If the tone on the ocd was at 1 or 2 o'clock, I think it would be less dark and then I would see if I wanted to use it as a boost or if it was better with the drive turned up.

      Nothing beats my Zvex Distortron when it comes to MIAB, but these two head-t-head was very revealing to me. The NUX is not so pleasant on it's own, but would indeed cut through a mix better. The OCD is smoother but perhaps too smooth.

    This demo doesn't really show the versatility of the Nux Plexi Crunch. It's not a pedal where you sweep the knobs and get a good sound. It's a pedal where you can dial in your tone, with great affect by tweaking those knobs to get the right sound. I won't disregard the OCD being legendary, but know the Plexi Crunch is pretty great for $49. It has so many Marshall tones packed into that little pedal.

    OCD for the win - *but* the NUX would definitely cut through the mix. It's mid-pushed with a fair amount of low-end rollof. That'll get you heard.
    I do like that NUX pedal's EQ, seems semi-active? It's obviously going for the JCM900 thing and does an okay job of it.

    • @TheToneLounge
      @TheToneLounge  3 года назад +1

      The only thing I think is to be revised on that Nux is the gain sweep. It does not have enough variety in the sweep. Otherwise, it has it's place.

  • @jonschwieb323

    Like other commenters, I like the OCD better, especially with tone up (it seems pretty dark to me). Couldn’t figure out what was going on with the NUX tone control, though, there at the end! The presence knob made sense, but that tone control! Some weird options in there, haha.

    • @TheToneLounge
      @TheToneLounge  3 года назад

      The Nux is a bit of a different beast lol. Not a bad pedal at all, just very different.

    • @plumbummusic2051
      @plumbummusic2051 Год назад +1

      The tone control is basically the same as you'd find on the orange terror amps. 0 = scooped and 10 = ALL THE MIDS.
      The presence knob is more akin to what a traditional tone knob does in most guitar pedals.

  • @TheSpiffyBiscuits
    @TheSpiffyBiscuits 3 года назад +4

    Really interesting comparison if you ask me. The nux is obviously branded as Marshall inspired but the OCD has always had a bit of the marshally thing too to my ears. The two pedals would sit in the same place on most peoples boards as a higher gain crunch so the comparison is definitely worthwhile.
    For me the ocd was the clear winner. Much fuller and more rounded.
    The Ramble FX Marvel 3 is on my list of ones to try. Would definitely give that ocd a run for its money.

    • @TheToneLounge
      @TheToneLounge  3 года назад +1

      This is why I did this particular video. I've heard it said that the OCD is similar in circuitry to an MXR Distortion +, but many think it does the whole MIAB thing. So, I decided to compare both of these pedals to determine whether one did the MIAB thing better than the other. I leave it up to the viewer to determine which did it best.

    I think the nux sound more like a original plexi super lead tone... more kranked, the ocd sounds with to much low end...in a lead setup i think it will sound too mudy, maybe for a fender with a stratocaster for play blues or clasic rock it Will be ok, but i preffer in first place for a full lead tone the carl Martin panama and in second place the nux !!
