Thank you. I learned more about jazzing up a piece of music from you in 24 minutes than I have from other UTubes in hours. You have a special way of explaining that I can understand at 71 years young.
Thank you so much for helping me jazz up my songs I’ve been teaching myself how to play piano for the last year and a half. I’m an older woman I just needed something to do it really helps with what you are Teaching and I’ve never played piano before. Anybody can learn if I can.
FINALLY a simple, yet thorough explanation of exactly what I’ve been looking for. As someone who is self taught and thinks of music in a very formulaic way, this is perfect.
So that’s how you play those cool sounding chords and rhythms that I’ve always heard! It took a lot of videos before I finally came to yours that just simply explains things clearly and thoroughly. Thanks!
I would like to thank you very much, Musician and Teacher Shawn Creek. I have been playing since I have been in second grade. I have just written two books after retirement and as I live with my mother who is 96, in a small town, I wanted to learn this. This is the first time I understood this. I still do not know what a "bridge" is or a "suspension," but I am determined to practice every day now for one hour a day. You have explained this in small steps which really helped and you have the nice print which was good for the visual learners. Thank you again and I have subscribed. I would like a definition video as well for musical theory. Thank you, Melinda Aimee Roth
That was fun . Greatly appreciate you sharing the ways to spice up the chords . Im finally getting to the point of being able to understand everything you shared . Inversions were and still are one of my favorite things I ever learned about chord piano . Timing has been the hardest for me but with the help on here and watching people play its been great . Thank you very much .
Thanks for this! Been playing in our church for a long time now and been wanting to try out something different on how to play the worship songs and found this! Will definitely try what you taught us here. Keep up the great work! :)
You are very welcome. If you’d like to request a praise and worship lesson, just do a Google search for Webb piano teacher, and put it in your review. So far, I’ve done all the requests that people have asked for in my reviews. So I might do yours! Thanks a bunch. Shawn.
Great lesson! I'll definitely try drumming to my favorite music. My rhythm is lacking. I've watched a lot of your videos and even subscribed to your membership site. Glad to see you are still teaching.
Thank you! If you want more, please write me a quick Google review. Just do a Google search for Web piano teacher and say what you just did here. Only takes a minute, and makes it worth my while to keep putting up these videos for free. This is my occupation, so I have to make a living at it, and the Google reviews are enough to keep me going. Let’s help each other out.
Ohh thank you so much for this lesson! I will really take those advices and tips to heart and try to remember them every time I practice again and again!! 😄 I loved this lesson and I loved your advices and explanations about rhythm 🥁! That’s so important, I never focused on this when I tried to learn piano by myself + I didn’t see many teachers on RUclips talking about rhythm! So great lesson!! May God bless you in your work and in everything!! 🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Thanks, I can play guitar and bass (and drums to an extent). I just started keys about a couple of weeks ago and am getting my way around the keys keys, but this is so helpful to get these ideas, almost like what I do on the fretboard but different. It so true about most keys players I have come across in Japan especially where they don't understand rhythm, and even seem to think 3/4 time is 4/4 minus 1 and miss anticipated or swing beats. I will try tomorrow some ideas. I use the 2nd and sus accents on guitar all the times and G F# E walk down on a G D Em progression ( 1, 5, 6m or what ever key we are in) . Thanks heaps.
I would love to see a video on the easiest way to transpose if a transpose button isn't available....aka playing on an acoustic. Would also like to see a video on the Jadon Lavik song moving on faith
I think I’ll do this one today. Can you do me a quick favor? Do a Google search for web piano teacher and write me a review? I would SO appreciate that if you could. Thank you.
I like your video lesson and that this is a sacred song. And it has a pop feel to it. Honestly, if Elton John got saved I think he’d sound like this! No joke!
Wow Shawn. You are simply great ! I am trying to see if this would apply to an arranger keyboard, where I have the style, tempo, rhythm, accompaniments and variations all available on the keyboard itself. I play the full triad chords on the left ... how do i play the embellishments in such a situation. Keen to have your view or if you have a video on it. I have a KorgPA 1000 arranger. It has built in styles, i can use beautiful PADs to embellish the worship. The rhythm, tempo and the pads are all saved as a keyboard set. I am not sure what i can play with my right hand in such a situation. I am very comfortable playing chord inversions with the left hand. The keyboard recognizes the correct chord regardless of the inversion of the chord. Many thanks and blessings.
Thanks Natasha! I wish I could hep you on this, but i don't know anything about that keyboard. If you were my student, I would teach you to play the way I do in the video, as it's much more fun and rewarding playing the music yourself instead of using programs - though I know a lot of people use those these days and enjoy them. All my best whatever you do! Shawn
As a rhythm guitar player and worship leader for years, I have been trying to transition to keys. Inverted chords are a Godsend. I still have difficulty to play solo/octave bass on L, as L wants to chord same as RH. Any good tips to break this? Glad I found your vid. Blessings.
This lesson is not for beginners, but welcome anyway. You don’t teach addition and subtraction in a trigonometry class, but I have listened to you guys and I’ve created a praise and worship course for beginners in immediate and advance on my website. It’s only one dollar to try it. And it is truly for beginners!
Hi am Ishmael from Ghana I love this particular song and also I want to learn to Play piano or keyboard Pls help me to play the keyboard thank you very much God richly bless you 🙏
Thank you. I’m a play with sheet music kinda girl (50+ years of it) and I’ve always wanted to play the way you’re teaching. At first I was hopeful, thinking to my self, “I can do this!” with a smile on my face……….and then you started embellishing………sigh😔

Glad it made sense to you!
Awesome! I am 70 and learning how to play chords on a piano. This is a big help in improving techniques.
Glad you found it helpful!
So that’s how you play those cool sounding chords and rhythms that I’ve always heard! It took a lot of videos before I finally came to yours that just simply explains things clearly and thoroughly. Thanks!
You can do it!
Please do more chording practices like this for gospel songs and other styles as well, this is immensely helpful.
I intend to! I’ve already done about 5 or 6 in this playlist.

Wow this is a solid lesson. Learning to embellish is something many want to learn more of.
That’s what this whole channel is about.
I've taken advantage of Shawn Cheek sight reading lessons. It has enhanced my sight reading exponentially. Worth every cent! He is great!
Thanks Larry!
Love it! So helpful. Could you play, “May his favor be upon you and a 1000 generations/ Amen”?

Could you please do more like this
I’m trying! I’ve done one a day so far.
You should do a video for the left hand, spice up the bass with different methods 🙏
All of my in depth lessons are not on youtube, but only on my website. Thanks.
I like your video lesson and that this is a sacred song. And it has a pop feel to it.

Thanks!
Your voice is very good 👍
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Where can I find good cord sheets like this? Thank you for the great video.
I made it. There are no good free ones. I just find one that’s close and correct it.
Tabs and Cords is an app that I use that gives very good cord sheets !!😁
Wow!
Thanks!
I can learn better with this format because I am more intermediate level player !
I like to learn by adding stuff in .
Awesome! Check out my other p and w lessons on this playlist. Enjoy! Shawn.

@@webpianoteachershawncheek Thanks Shawn.
I enjoy your guidance through the video. However, how would you play this song with other players such as guitar, bass and drums?
Good question. Can’t really answer that in a sentence right here.
It’s alright. Im asking because I am a learning Song Service leader and trying to work with other players. I myself with the guitar.
Can you do the suspension a little slow
Thank you so much
Slow it down in your settings to learn easier .
Yes, like they said. Just use the video function to slow down the speed that should work.
Great lesson Shawn. Maybe a daft question but are you using your pedals at all?
Yep, damper pedal.
Will you do a lesson on O Holy Night?
I already have.
As a rhythm guitar player and worship leader for years, I have been trying to transition to keys. Inverted chords are a Godsend. I still have difficulty to play solo/octave bass on L, as L wants to chord same as RH. Any good tips to break this? Glad I found your vid. Blessings.

Had a question if playing Ab major or any other key. Could a Minor6 chord replace regular minor chord.
The minor six cord IS the regular minor cord. Make sense?
@ A little was learning different styles of Gospel now and tones.
Thanks to this, i wont bother focusing on music sheet
You're welcome! Glad to help.
How to play piano despite years of lessons!!😊
