  • This educational animation describes the mechanism of action of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's Disease (AD). AD is a major health concern and affects roughly 1 out of 3 Americans. The process of neurodegeneration in AD takes place over a period of years, resulting in cognitive decline and memory loss. Graduate-level neuroimaging students are the audience for this video which is intended to explain those key factors which are present in the brains of AD patients, including tau tangle formation, cessation of neuronal signaling, and ultimately, cell death. The process of neurodegeneration is shown here in a condensed time frame to best illustrate the evolution of this devastating and vexing, brain disease.
