late to the party lol. do you have to paint it or is that a preference? I believe the trubendz kits are stainless (depending on which ones you get), so it shouldn't rust, right?
Trubenz system is one of the systems I've used on 2 different Maxima(s) and I love it...I utilize the largest mufflers & resonator possible that will fit... here's my system new...It'll take 500-1000 miles of soot build up to insulate the interior of the exhaust and make the sound less metallic sounding...It reduces the sounds reflectivity internally making a new exhaust sound much softer and deeper...ruclips.net/video/8N0AlhWTNfg/видео.html
Wow those kits are cheap, I like how they option everything. I know what you mean on the welding umpteen pieces to make an exhaust, when I did the exhaust on my Lexus it was fun but time consuming, your fit, check, fit, adjust segments made me laugh. Once again quality work here.
No better time to start than now. All I did to learn to TIG weld was watch videos from the weldingtipsandtricks RUclips channel. To learn about automotive fabrication stuff I did a lot of reading from the Welding/Fabrication section of Honda-Tech, if you start from 2005 and read threads forward you will pick up a lot of information. After that it's just a matter of gaining experience from doing projects like this.
props on tig welding it!! I usually just mig weld them for convinence

This one is mild steel, so painting it helps. Stainless doesn't need paint.

wouldn't you just kill to have a lift. what kind of welder do you use?
Yes, I could do a few of these in a day if I had a lift. The welder I have is an Everlast 200dx.
