    I did the salt, and it took some off. Then I used the toothpaste, baking Soda, & vinegar solution. Voila my vintage iron is spotlessly clean! I also cleaned the interior, although I don’t use the steam feature much, stuff from my toothpaste solution had gone in the holes in the iron. I’ve tried everything to clean the faceplate, and your ideas were far and away the BEST! My only regret is not taking a before and after picture. Thanks ever so much! Have a great day!

      Prevention is better than cure. I have found that most people iron at
      too high a temperature . The steam setting on my iron has high, medium ,
      low. Set the steam to low. I have found this setting works perfectly
      and I never have to clean my iron. The rule is start off at a low
      temperature and increase the temperature gradually. Write the settings
      down or keep them in a mental sock. Give it a go you have nothing to
      lose and hopefully everything to gain.

    I tried this on our heavily stained iron and it worked! You just have to scrub it vigorously, when I said vigorously - - it's really VIGOROUSLY.. 😅 It's better also to prepare quite a lot of mixture (especially for heavily stained ones) so that you won't need to mix every now and then if it's not enough and the stain is still there at first try.

    • @loisbeyer5336
      @loisbeyer5336 9 месяцев назад

      @@cindym3220 I tried the baking soda/vinegar bit and it didn't work. I'm not doing the salt, it's not food, it's an iron. I read an aspirin tablet or Tylenol in a warm iron using a tweezers to rub tablet so you don't burn your fingers then wipe clean with a damp cloth, but supposedly you need to cover your nose and mouth and open the window because of fumes. To tell you the truth, oven cleaner is not something I keep on hand because my oven is spotless inside as I am a vegetarian. My hardware store said to purchase stainless steel cleaner which they said is $8. I'm tired of this, I'm expecting a gift card for my birthday. I'm just getting a new iron. It won't be as good quality as mine, but this process is over for me. I have better things to do and I have clothes to iron.

      It just all depends on what type of iron you have. Some of them are a little softer than others and you could scratch it up pretty bad. So I wouldn't recommend it.

    I am flabbergasted how well this worked. After scrubbing with the paste, there burnt stuff came off but paste kind of stayed glued on and I couldn’t scrub it off. I thought that was that. Popped out quickly to buy a new iron. When I got back, I decided to try scrubbing iron again which was now cold and amazing - it’s as good as new. Thanks for the tip.
