- This LP definitely has seen better days, it's really noisy but it is over 40 years old. Hearing this song brings back so many good memories of growing up in the islands. I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Santos in person at one of his shows. He's a very humble person and definitely one of Hawaii's treasures.
Watch in HD. Enjoy.
I remember days when we were younger
We used to catch 'o'opu in the mountain stream
'Round the Ko'olau hills we'd ride on horseback
So long ago it seems it was a dream
Last night I dreamt I was returning
and my heart called out to you
But I fear you won't be like I left you
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u
I remember days when we were wiser
When our world was small enough for dreams
And you have lingered there my sister
And I no longer can it seems
Last night I dreamt I was returning
and my heart called out to you
But I fear you won't be like I left you
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u
Change is a strange thing
it cannot be denied
It can help you find yourself
or make you lose your pride
Move with it slowly
as on the road we go
Please do not hold on to me
we all must go alone
I remember days when we were smiling
When we laughed and sang the whole night long
And I will greet you as I find you
With the sharing of a brand new song
Last night I dreamt I was returning
and my heart called out to you
To please accept me as you'll find me
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u
Thank you for including punctuation--not easy! I know! 👍
This unbelievable.... just love it ❤ 😊.... kids this is not gangsta rap......This is Music 🎵🎶🎵🎶
I didn't grow up in Kahalu'u, but Waikane, so close enough. I've been stuck on the mainland now for years. I cry every time I hear this song. 😭
Ahhh yeah, Waikane very close. That side of the island is so beautiful. I grew up spending summers in Punalu'u and have always had a love for the windward side. Thanks for listening and commenting.
Such a beautiful song and brings back the best memories for those of us lucky enough to have lived in the islands.
I absolutely agree. Always brings back great memories of growing up here. Mahalo for listening and commenting.
Jerry Santos 🥇 Shared 🍍 Kahaluu 🌴 Masterpiece ❤ 40 Year's Melody and Loyalty 🏆
Thanks Again 🌊
Mahalo for listening and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed this upload.
Every time I hear this song I tear up. My father-in-law was one of the only Haoles in Kahalu'u in the 1950s. He dropped out at 13 and did well in the window drapery trade. He moved to Florida later in life but he never stopped talking about the beauty of Hawaii. My husband was also raised there. He taught me how to surf and told me stories of him biking up Haleakalā (yes, up) and net fishing with his friends.
My husband and I were able to spread his ashes at the summit and it was a beautiful but solemn experience, playing this song in the silence at that altitude. I'm going to have "me ke aloha ku'u home o Kahalu'u" tattooed in honor of him. This was his favorite song. Cancer sucks.
Cancer sure does suck, I lost my spouse to it. Thank you for listening and for the very poignant comment.
Aloha Alison …I’m terribly sorry to hear about your husband. Yes, cancer REALLY sucks! We lost my Mom and sister-in-law 4 months apart from cancer, recently. At the same time…my Mom’s two younger brothers found out they have cancer (one colon and the other breast) and have been battling since.
It has been IMMENSELY tough to set my ship back on course in this life…to get back to focusing on the part ahead. Especially, when great tunes like this one comes on my iTunes playlists.
I’ll send a little prayer your way for continued strength in your life’s road.
May your husband rest easy in Aloha🎼🫶🏽
Much Aloha to you, sister🎼🎵🎶🤙🏾💕
There are only a few songs out of all of the songs that I have ever heard, that have such a profound grasp upon my soul as does this masterpiece here. I suspect that not all listeners will quite relate to this , almost foreign sound to them, but as for myself, it brings me back to the innocence of my childhood and my youth. This is the sound of hope, love and peace of mind that I haven't been able to find for so long . Thanks for sharing
I'm very happy you enjoyed this one. This song is definitely special and truly means a lot to those that grew up listening to it. Thanks for listening and the great comment.
I can relate, brother.
I was in elementary school when this song was released. It taken in by so many here in Hawaii. And, even as a young keiki in the 4th grade I could feel the power of this gem in my soul.
It wasn’t until I moved away from the islands and stationed in Germany and Kuwait that song took on an even more mana for myself. As I often longed to go home to heal my mind and spirit, and to be around family and friends…this was definitely one of the tunes that kept me driving forward and ground me while trying to focus on my task at hand.
I mean from the first kiho'alu notes on the guitar…your engaged🤷🏽♂️ at least I am 😁
What actually blew me away…was several of my Army brothers and sisters KNEW THIS SONG!!!😳🤙🏾. And a couple could sing the entire song. I can’t express/explain just how much that massaged my suffering spirit…and had me tearing up. NONE were Polynesian. Only three (out of about 20+) visited or lived in Hawaii. Thee rest, majority, would say someone in their family had the 78rpm and they liked the song when they heard it being played. These were Haole…Black…Hispanic…heck we had a brother from St Kitts who know a lot of the words😳🤙🏾🎼
Several knew the VERY popular “Hawaii ‘78”…and, very powerful, recorded by the GREAT …Makaha Sons of Niihau, with a young Israel Kamakawiwoole(Braddah Iz) on vocals.
Take care and much Aloha, my Braddah🤙🏾🎼🎶🎵

This epitomizes rhe best of Hawaiian Renassaince music. I casually knew Jerry Santos in rhe 1980s, and you're correct, he is very humble, even shy. This is his masterpiece, pure magnificence. Thank you for posting. ❤️

I remember this song here in Hawai'i in the '70's. It still has an awesome effect on me. I value my homeland here in Hawai'i.
We took a beautiful cat sunset ride ending with a band playing at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. They played this song. It was so beautiful and one of my most precious memories. I love you Don.
Very happy you enjoyed this upload. Definitely one of those songs that many here in Hawaii can say it's part of their best memories. Thanks for listening and commenting.
Reminds me of the days of hanging out at the Top Of The Shop, corner of Keeamoku & Kapiolani
Damn, I don't even remember Top of the shop, hehe. Mahalo for listening!
One of my first jobs in early 80s was on Keeaumoku, a print shop across from McD's. ☺️

Me too, every time!!
I love the shot of the tonearm touching down. Fantastic.
Happy you enjoyed the video and song. Thanks for listening!
Today I wandered over for some Country Comfort, and had to play this before i left. I wasn't expecting to have tears streaming down my face. Maybe because its Christmas-time, maybe from missing holiday seasons long ago, when everyone who mattered was still alive, and healthy and well.
Sometimes you just don't know how a classic piece is going to connect with you on a deeper level. God bless.
Thank you for such an endearing comment. The emotions always well up whenever I listen to this, too. Just way too many memories come back when I hear it. Thank you so much for listening and the great comment as well. Much mahalo!

@@CuttoothsRoom🎯🎯🎯 there's a couple of C&K that hit the feels too, Sunflower for one.
@@leanns5440 Yeah, that's a great song. Another of their songs that really takes me back is "Highway In The Sun". Something about that song just makes me feel calm.

yeah, hearing this always brings back the memories of small kid time. miss my parents for sure. thanks for listening and commenting.
There are certain artists and styles that just sound better on vinyl with big ol' speakers that double as furniture. The warm sounds resonating in the background amidst the trandwinds; encouraging us to sitback and talk story for a bit.
I definitely agree. some songs and artists are just timeless and meant to be listened to as it was first intended to be. Thanks for listening and the comment.
Beautiful
I'm very happy you enjoyed this one, very beautiful for sure. Thanks for listening
Nothing like Olomana on some good ole vinyl to remember my fun filled childhood days with my sisters and all my cousins. Crazy how this song sings true.
Yup, brings back some great memories of growing up in the islands. Thanks for listening and commenting.
Soundtrack of my youth. Still a Kaneohe boy
Hawaii no ka oi! Mahalo for listening and commenting Colin.

Thank you for this.
You're welcome Marcy! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
🏝☮🙏
Glad you enjoyed this one! One of the songs that instantly take me back.
Could you possibly do LULLABY from this same album. You have done a wonderful cover thank you so much for sharing this. The last time I saw and talked to Bob he was wearing that striped shirt so this brought back many happy memories 🌺
Thanks for the nice sentimental comment Connie. I've been meaning to upload a few more local songs so this is a perfect reason to do that. I'll give that track a listen and hopefully it's in good enough shape to record. Aloha
Connie, here's Lullabye...also with Seabird which is my favorite song on the album. Honestly, I don't think I've listened to these songs since the late 70s so thank you for asking to record Lullabye. It really brought back many great memories for me.

Hi, do you have a recommendation for any turn tables? I have this exact record and would love to listen to it :)
I'm not too up to date on current turntable models but i know the Audio Technica AT-LP60 is a popular model.
I couldn't understand
if you meant you couldnt understand the lyrics i pinned them at the top of the comments. the term "Me ke aloha ku'u home o kahalu'u" translates to "with love for my home of kahalu'u" which is an area on the eastern side of Oahu.
