My workplace supplies SpaceX with finished parts and our components all come from Mexico and SpaceX's components we receive all come from China. When you do something first, you have to figure everything out. When you do something second,(or later) you have something you can copy to shorten the design time.
It's quite a bit easier and faster to develop something if you know that designs that seem feasible have problems because others already built and tested them, preventing you from making the same choices/mistakes.

Funny that you say that. Space flight development went backwards when the USA and Russia started working together. It stayed the same (or worse) for decades, until SpaceX came into the scene and made huge leaps that everyone thought was impossible (like landing rockets). If there was no FAA or if the FAA were a lot less burdensome, then Space X would've launched a lot more rockets, including test rockets, which would give Space X a lot more data to work with. It's quite a bit easier and faster to develop something if you know that designs that seem feasible have problems because others already built and tested them, preventing you from making the same choices/mistakes.

Often the supply comes before the demand. The Uses will be massive in the near future as space mining and colonising becomes a thing.

Funny that you say that. Space flight development went backwards when the USA and Russia started working together. It stayed the same (or worse) for decades, until SpaceX came into the scene and made huge leaps that everyone thought was impossible (like landing rockets). Without SpaceX the USA wouldn't even have a usable launcher at the moment and would still depend on the Russians for launches.
Working together requires everyone contributing new ideas. So far it is mostly just copying homework.
Nothing much has every been accomplished in spaceflight through cooperation. Nearly all progress was made out of fear that the other guy would drop a nuke onto our cities from 150 miles.
