I'm like, genuinely offended by the fact that we didn’t get timeskip Norman, and I mean the REAL timeskip Norman, in the anime. Everybody always says that he looks like, thirty in the manga, but honestly he looks more like early twenties to me. If we had gotten his glow-up in the anime I could've possibly *considered* forgiving them for the PowerPoint presentation. But no, instead we got...the “just hitting puberty” Norman in the anime instead of the “has suffered through puberty and is handsome now” Norman.

I know the manga seemed too fast paced towards the end, but Shounen Jump actually was the reason for that. Shirai (the author) stated that he would like to make side stories based on plots (like Ayshe and Norman) that weren’t able to be touched on enough.

    Long Comment incoming whoops.
I think a mixture of not having the story fully developed after the 1st arc (which had 3 months of planning), having to weekly put out chapters and some advice from the editor probably contribute to ending bits TPN being not as developed. From interviews and the TPN fanbook explaining some behind-the-scenes stuff, its clear Shirai wanted to explored more stuff such as Lamada, Asyhe and the other kids but was adviced to mostly focus on the main story.
Few tidbits of how I feel about moments:
    - I think it was suppose to be limpied that Emma was roaming around demons during her seven wall search but of course due to the timeskip it wasn't really as explored aside from a few panels. (wow s2 actually address something better thats rare) I feel they really should have explore more of what happened during the timeskip. In that sense I argue the Emma's arguement is stronger in the manga since due to Goldy Pond she is aware demons can be both monsters and innocent people and is not just being native.
    - Emma's speech to Norman I think is suppose to be more stopping him from forcing a disguise as it was clear he wasn't fully on board with at the very least killed all demons (the rich can die tho lol) I wished the story explored more of how Norman ended up building up that barrier. (I agree with the Lamaba kids turning over way too easyily tho)
    - Being a Ray fan is suffering. Kind of shame really because I do appreciate the subtle grown in his character of being more open and trusting with the kids and Emma in later arcs. It draws a really cool parallel of Norman and Rat switching roles, with Norman now being the more anatognistic role since he loses the moral compass that was Emma. I also like the Emma and Ray dynamic more since Ray doesn't supercoat things and is honest to Emma about things like why norman and co would wanna kill demons. Due to that I feel he shouldn't have died as he was intended (which also rob Emma a really clever moment) and I wished the author was able to give Ray something interesting after. Also during Emma's talk no jutsu with Norman, Ray really did have nothing to say to the best friend that was able to the exact same thing he stopped him from doing in this first arc?
    - Okay to better explain The Promise signifience since the manga kinda gloss over it, Peter and his Uncle mention something called Code Soild. When Emma implemented the Promise, code soild was an alert thatessentially told them that the promise was override and basicially told them "hey the children that's crossing over right now, don't kill them". Basicially if Emma didn't do the promise then the dangers of crossing over only to get caught by the Raitri clan there would have been present. As for scenrio A I think the intend was that while Demons don't need humans to survive anymore, some would still want to eat them for their flavor (aka the demon that killed Isabella) Again probably not best explained due to the manga glossing over it.
    - Regardless of how ya feel about the Seven Walls that setting would have been really cool to see animated. The setup to breaking back into Grace field was cool but I certainly wish their were more obstacles for the kids to overcome. Also we were robbed of Emma and Co vs the Queen so badly.
    - I know the ending is subjective, All I'll say it mostly due to Shirai not wanting to end the manga on a depressing note and feeling that the mermory loss and the 2 year search for Emma would been euongh bittersweet. (apparently one of the early ideas was to outright kill Emma)
Even with its flaws I still enjoy The Promised Neverland alot and I think people can find some enjoyment reading it despite some issues at the end. Maybe one day we'll get that Brotherhood and will address some issues but that feels like a pipe dream. Eitherway your video was enjoying to watch, it was fun to see how someone who watch s2 first thought about the manga.

I feel like the reason that everything in the manga sort of "bent" to Emmas will was to support the theme of "changing fate". I love how TPN focused on that theme and really made it stand out however I agree that sometimes that aspect was taken too far with Emmas easily converted reality. All In all I really do love the manga even with its weak points because although some aspects just didn't make sense, or when things felt very rushed, it got the message across. That if you are determined and don't give up you can alter fate and reality, changing the world.

    • @DJMilez
      @DJMilez  3 года назад +3

Yeah but they really hammer down that message to the highest degree with no consequences that it really makes the overall story feel cheap and not earned. Just my two cents if you enjoyed it more power to ya, wish they could have been clever with their material like they were with the Jailbreak and Goldy Pond arcs.

    *long paragraph coming through-*
The ending wasn’t perfect as mentioned, but it was definitely better than the anime’s. Especially the goldy pond arc and the jailbreak arc.
I personally didnt like how easy it was in the anime to convince Norman, not really too much bothered by the ending but I personally love how they did Isabella. Her character was truly amazing. But ray’s character development just went poof after the jailbreak arc. But it’s also understandable as it was mentioned by the author/ creator that ray was originally gonna die (by setting himself on fire) and Emma wouldn’t be able to save him.
It was a sudden change in the storyline so it was hard for them to make sudden changes to ray’s character, but I’m glad that they didn’t remove ray since he definitely had some parts where he was really needed. Norman’s return was quite expected (for me) because his death itself seemed quite unrealistic.
Emma ray and Norman’s reunion seemed better than their reunion in the anime. In the anime it was just like Norman was passing by and stumbled across Emma and ray- i couldn’t picture it as a coincidence but yeah, I think u get it, I really didn’t feel that the reunion in the anime was better than in the manga. Some changes were made due to shounen jump too. Emma sometimes was making no sense and everyone was like “yeah sure.” she legit changed their decision in one chapter or page. They be like “Yeah we gonna kill the demons” Emma : “no Their gonna live.” And they just agreed like- uhm I think you get the idea.
Isabella’s death was personally the most darkest for me in the manga. I didn’t really like she just talked to Emma and legit forgot she has ray too. Well forget that.
Musica sharing her blood was quite reasonable since the demon’d degenerate if they didn’t eat human flesh for sometime.
My conclusion is that the manga was idealistic at times, but was WAY better than the anime. I personally loved the gore in some arcs/ parts. The ending was bittersweet, no, the manga itself was bittersweet. It has its own flaws and it’s own good stuff. But it’s still one of my favourite mangas. anyway it’s my opinion for the manga, feel free to agree or disagree.

    • @DJMilez

Its all subjective but looks like we came across the same conclusion that while flawed, the manga is the way to go with The Promised Neverland vs the anime.

Okay maybe I won't write that long comment as I expected to, but still - personally tpn is and will be my favorite manga for a loooong time, but even if I'm obssesed I still can see most of the flaws you said (expect Isabella's death - I cried for 20 minutes with my friend).
But! I never actually wonder that much why Andrew survived - looking back it really don't make sense. Also the thing with Ray being "invisible" as someone on the chat said: yes. Originally Ray was supposed to literally put himself on fire back in Grace Field. And now I guess that Kaiu Shirai had a problem with fitting him into the story when they make him to keep Ray alive.
The thing that piss me off the most is Ayshe - what did Norman tell to her in 18 volume, ha? WHY IT WASN'T EXPLAINED?! I'M STILL COURIOUS COME ON!
The fact that I predicted Levis return, because I was suspicious from the straight beging about this one frame in 11 volume, but I didn't expected to be right XD
But I think I can get your video to my tpn alternative universe and fix some flaws (I probably won't all but still it's something). After this video I'm definitely putting my hands on battle with the Queen Legravalima. Since in my au there's a half-fictional character that's gonna fight with the queen, so I think I can pull out some good plot twist. But for now the only think I have is the sentence "You want to eat me? Ha! Queen... I'm already dead!".
Anyway great video I had fun on premiere!

I did the same thing as you, starting as an anime-only and finished both seasons before even starting on the manga. It was probably because TPN was the first anime AND manga for me to actually finish, but I'm glad I went with the order I did and enjoyed how much better the manga overall was. Other than this, I don't really read manga, but even though it was rushed with the last few chapters and didn't touch on Ray's general personality as much as in the jailbreak arc, I still find it a hundred times better than the second season. I don't know if you've read the side stories or novels of this fandom, but you definitely should. It's made me respect Ray even more, and even touches on Krone being trained to become a mom. A TPN novel that's definitely worth checking out, is one called "Norman's Letter", it circles around when he writes the substitute plan for the actual escape of Grace Field, mainly taking us back to when they were all younger and dealt with suspecting the orphanage for being haunted by ghosts. Other side stories include 3 different perspectives of Emma, Norman and Ray going up on the roof of their orphanage (again, being younger) to stargaze in secret.
All around, I think I've read just about everything about this fandom, and it really is worth it. Both related to character depth and world building👍

*---This comment is pretty long and is just me rambling. Obviously it also contains heavy Manga Spoilers---*
I finished binge-watching S1 (and 2) of the Anime, and I also finished re-reading the Manga (I wonder how the Live Action Movie is like???)...
This video perfectly captures my feelings about Yakusoku No Neverland // The Promised Neverland Manga.
Obviously, there's that gr8 side story -- A Mother's Determination -- which explains how Grandma Isabella was able to get an army of Mamas and Sisters on her side against Peter Ratri and the Farm system. Oh and it's revealed in the Manga that The One says that Emma's "1,000 years of suffering," along with memories of her family were enough to fulfil His side of the new Promise (unless that was some kind of translation error, maybe that confirms that guy that was Emma's Ancestor was also her in her past life. The same thing can go for Ray, Norman, the other GF kids and, of course, Peter Ratri. This idea can also be supported by The One saying "It's been a good 1,000 years" to Peter Ratri after he kills himself... Idk I thought I'd mention that bc I thought it was interesting). Maybe those "1,000 years of suffering" was also the "price" Emma had to "pay" to forge the new Promise w/ Him in S2 as well? Idk. _Sigh_
I really loved how we got to see the story behind the first (two) Promise(s) with Julius Ratri and The One. Seeing how Humanity and Demonkind were constantly at war with each-other, and that there were Humans who worshipped Demons, and how this world was so bizzare and different 1k years b4 everything started was very interesting, I think. I found myself wishing that it was explored more (along w/ many other things in this Manga, such as...), like the dilemma Julius faced of either sacrificing his comrades to save Humanity or keep attaining loss after loss after bloody loss. Or the sheer horror that his comrades all experienced when they all realized they were completely screwed over, and that they were going to be eaten by the Demons -- like many of their descendants. (Or how the first Farms came to be.) It was still good to get a glimpse of though.
What's more interesting, I think, is what could've happened if our boi Leuvis just right up devoured Julius immediately. Then, most likely, a "Promise" with Humans and Demons (and Him) would never be forged. How would the world turn out???
I hope there's AU Fanfics of that. If there isn't ( _cries_ ) then maybe I'll write one myself. And since you actually read this far:
*(Shoutout to AaronAmerican518 for proposing this idea! Check out his TPN Demon World Ending videos, imho they're neat. You might like them, idk I hope you do!!)*
I think too much about this lol
There were some unanswered questions I had throughout the Manga though. I know these are all pretty much pointless questions but I'm still curious. Like, how did the Demons and Humans create the first Farms? Who were those ancestors of our main cast? Who were the supporters of "William Minerva„? Who was that "windmill girl" that saved Lucas' life? How do the Demons reproduce? Where exactly is the Demon World located? _What are the Demons even called, in their own terms and language?!_
If TPN had been a Monthly Manga instead of a Weekly, then perhaps it would've turned out better. The waiting would've been pure pain but maybe. Maybe it would've payed off (still though. Demizu is amazing for drawing so much in so little time. Imho).
All in all, Demizu's beautiful art combined with Shirai's amazing (albeit sadly compact) story was a gr8 read, and I know I'll probably re-read it again someday. The Anime was gr8 too. And you know what? I liked S2. Despite it barely adapting the Manga and Mister not being there (etc., etc., R.I.P.) I still enjoyed watching it.
I'm still hoping for a Manga OG storyline in a FMA Brotherhood-esque reboot though, and I'll never stop hoping. This possible Anime Adaptation could also fix all the problems that the OG Manga had (and, unfortunately, didn't have to have). Maybe.
Echoing what I said earlier, I wonder what the Live Action Movie will be like? Same with the Light Novel(s). (And if you're reading this in the future--cheers!! 🥂)
*---Thanks a lot for reading all of this! I hope my tangents made sense, too!! Stay safe out there.---*

She didn't lose her memory, however, she had to somehow make huge changes to the world by making the human world a peaceful place to live in for norman and the others to live in (at the cost of 20 years of her life before the actual date norman travel to the human world), which the demi-god demon find it more interesting. After solving the world crisis, she somehow manages to prepare and instructed her servant to standby at the beach when norman and the others arrive at the human world..that could explain how they know exactly when/where norman and the other kids coming, and how the world suddenly live in the peaceful day. Emma at that time probably already dead because of the war and her name was remembered as the saviour of the world. I don't think that's what happened cause the last few panels showed Emma going to her family and in the crowd was the old man

Yay, the long awaited manga review is here! And for the most part I agree with your position on its highlights and flaws. But in terms of what happened after the imperial battle arc (the pace and conviences), I think its pretty obvious, especially since the same thing occurred but occurred more drastically in the s2 anime. Was it Kaiu burning out? Highly unlikely considering he keeps dropping more backstory content that was missed and how he's expressed that he plans to release what happened to various characters with back stories in more detail that was skipped over in the manga. The fact that Shueisha executives were in The Promised Neverland Committee (TPN committee is made up of the producers who had full control over the script and decisions for the anime series) and Shueisha happens to be the publishing house of Shonen Jump, not to mention SJ have long been accused of censorship of content and axing series without much warning given to authors of its serialization or sometimes demanding a story to go beyond that which it was originally intended in the past... I think one would have to be experiencing Emma's exaggerated blind optimism she has towards the end, to not pick up on the clues of corporate involvement effecting the outcome of quality in the story dipping in the end. Too many coincidences for me to believe that its the fault of anyone or anything else other than Shueisha's expressed desire for profits over storytelling and creative freedom to let the story just be, until Kaui had wrapped it up to his liking.

Well that context you informed me that certainly makes sense now. I mean we dont know but whenever you have the higher ups making the final decisions instead of the actual mangaka, it wont be good or even worse, very "disney-esque"

Did you read the bonus chapters? There’s one about Isabella recruiting the other moms and sisters to turn against Peter.

I only just finished the anime, and I was curious if there was any more to it so I searched google an learned that it cut 4 ARCS.

Here's how I'd have changed the ending, Emma would have still had her memory wiped however, she would also be able to not see or hear them so when they do find her in the final chapter from her persepctive she is not feeling anything, not seeing anything or hearing anything then they guy who found Emma said what her new name is and she goes off with him and Norman and Ray conclude that the Emma they know is dead but the person that has replaced her is happy and that's all that matters.

Honestly I think what Julius did was wrong but makes sense. It’s for the overall good and given what Julius has been through it seemed like he was just done, tired of fight and didn’t care if his comrades were going to be the first sacrifices, he just wanted his hell to end

Yeah it’s a hard choice to make. It was either that or the entire human race would have been wiped out so maybe what he did was the smartest thing for all of humanity (as messed up as it sounds).
