I really like you doing the videos outside like you are. I wanted to say, you are one of the reasons I started my RUclips channel. I stepped out of my comfort zone. My video are not good, but I am still trying. Thank you!!
Thank you so much! I needed to hear this message! I've been grappling with this issue for several years and couldn't take the step forward because of this reason. You made the argument for me of why I don't need to be an expert. Thank you. Thank you, thank you!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I couldn’t agree more!! Most of us are a bit older and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to pull from and share 😊 always a joy and enjoy your content and excellent information , thank you 😊
This so resonates with me and you’re absolutely right we don’t need more experts. This makes me feel more comfortable about creating videos of what I know and in my experience 🙏Thank you for this amazing video.
You explained me to a tee. I felt like an imposter at first but I decided to just press record and learn as I go. I’m also doing a 90 day video challenge that is about half way complete. And I’m doing them outside. I initially decided to do 90 days so I could get over my fear of the camera, then I started doing them outside to overcome that fear too. So far, I’m extremely happy with the progress.
Loved it! Loved the example of your son and the Nascar teaching driving lessons! Im sure both my sons would have loved learning from one though, me, not so much! Enjoying the outdoor secenery too! With all that in the water, must have some big sharks too!
I'm glad you liked the video! Yes there are definitely large animals in the water but they don't typically bother with us humans... I see seals all the time and smaller fish like mackerel... porpoise and sunfish too. The seals are curious and come relatively close to shore. I've only seen a swordfish that one time and I've never seen a shark (although I know people who have). None of that stops me from swimming though... any fish that are around would scurry away when someone jumps in the water :-)
Thank you for the video! I can really relate to what you shared. Can you believe that for the past 10 years, I've wanted to create a RUclips channel, but imposter syndrome has always stopped me? I kept using the excuse of needing to learn 'enough' before starting. In the past, I often used over-preparation as a way to manage my anxiety and imposter syndrome. It took me a long time to realize what you shared here. I had actually started a channel before and grew it to 500 subscribers, but I had to quit due to health issues. Now, after a few years, I'm starting a new channel from scratch and hopefully will be able to develop it into a supportive community.
That sounds awesome!! You can do it :-) I too spent a lot of years NOT making videos because I didn't feel I knew enough... and now looking back I realize that I just should've started and not worried about it. Best of luck to you with your new channel!! :-)
This is great, Rob. My challenge is seeing myself on video (eek!) and editing. I just need to dive in and learn it. I watched your behind the scenes which was great, but all the equipment and adding the audio --ugh. I know I can do it, however if I just start. Thanks for encouraging us.
Seeing yourself on video DOES get easier... it just takes practice... the more you do it the more you'll get used to it :-) Just keep reminding yourself that that's exactly how other people see you so it won't be a surprise to others... only a surprise to you since you're not used to seeing yourself from the outside... if that makes sense?? Yes you can absolutely do it :-) Best of luck with it!!
Hello Rob, it's nice to see these outdoor videos and your progression with them... but I am looking forward to when you can get back in your office and make some more of your really useful Camtasia tutorial videos. Thank you, Steve.
That's a great point about having a spectrum of viewpoints. Your learning in real time approach is going well! It might be good if you could hold the camera a bit steadier. I might have to try making some videos outside - we have whales going past at the moment - although they would literally be a couple of pixels with how far offshore they are!
That would be awesome to see!! And yes, holding my phone steadier would be good... maybe I shouldn't move around so much lol! It's all a learning curve... and having fun with it :-)
Hey Big Rob, your awesome. I like outside unless theres something technical that is best shown in your labratory. For outside I like casual walking and talking no stress no rush but stay on topic no distractions unless its something like a snake in your path. Also please try to stop sabotaging yourself your awesome just bring it. Rob Rob just bring it. Oh and as long as I get the luxury of telling you my wishlist. I would love it if you would break down the whole thing about starting you tube from the beginning but 1 topic at a time in a short video. Short and sweet filled with value. Thanks Maritimer may the winds be with you. Now go go in peace.
Hahaha! Thank you! I'll try to "just bring it"! That's sometimes hard for me to do with my wandering 50+ year old mind... but I'll keep trying ;-) Cheers!
Hi Rob. Loving your videos. How do you get from your iPhone footage….. to uploading to RUclips? What software or editing equipment do you use? Many thanks Mike
Hi Mike and thanks! When I get back to my office, I "AirDrop" the video from my iPhone to my Macbook. If you use a PC then you would do it another way... plug in your phone to your computer and copy the video file that way. Once in the computer, I use video editing software to make small edits, add text if needed, trim the bad parts out, etc. The software I use is usually Camtasia... but you can use CapCut as well... they have a free version and its' great for beginners to learn on. When ready, I'll export (render) the video which creates the mp4 file... then I upload that to youtube. Finally, I'll use Canva to create a thumbnail which is usually just a screenshot from my video with some text added to it. That's it! I hope that helps :-)
This is so true! This held me up for so many years when I should’ve just started. It’s been almost a week since I started my channel and I have constantly remind myself of this. Great video!!
I think that's a bit harsh lol! I think imposter syndrome is something that affects a lot of people and holds them back from doing the thing they want to do (i.e. make videos). If you can learn to not worry about what other people think, and realize that there ARE people out there who want to hear what you have to say, that will go a long way to helping people move forward with making videos :)
Have you been spying on me? Because I’m currently obsessed with finding my niche, and not knowing what to say because I don’t know anything that deeply.
Imposter syndrome can be so paralyzing! I love your emphasis on being a few steps ahead of others and sharing your knowledge. There's so much less pressure when you think of RUclips that way - that and to always stay in a posture of learning. I also love that you're humble and encouraging about being a "beginner" with 22k subs. Not everyone takes that posture when they get monetized or taste a bit of success, unfortunately. It's refreshing and one of the reasons I'm happy to stick around. 🙂
Thanks for sticking around! This channel is just as much about me showing you my journey while at the same time helping others with theirs. I believe we can ALWAYS be learning... myself included. Thanks for watching and for the kind words :-) Cheers!
What a coincidence! I'm attending a virtual meeting today for my job, which is about Imposter Syndrome, I'm 100% remote. I've felt the same way about posting videos online. Although I've been online since the late 1990s (websites), I'm new to video editing and posting videos on RUclips. I'll be releasing my holistic channel this fall. I'm looking forward to creating that channel.
Interesting topic. I'm almost ready to release my channel and I've done a lot of research into my niche. Interestingly there is really only one channel doing what I'm doing and he works for the company that manufactures the product and has been there many years. He truely is an expert. Me... a beginner with design with the product but I have in depth knowledge on using the product so our channels are actually complimentary. Not only that, I'm sending him my designs and he is checking them and helping me. Even though I'm not an expert, I have an expert giving me amazing advice for free. The way I'm teaching is completely different (I'm building projects while he is classroom learning), so if we think about the viewer, they are getting totall different and complimentary perspectives. You video has really made me think about this... thanks so much!! My point being, if we aren't experts, we may be able to lean on others who are willing to help.
Sounds like you've got a plan figured out! Run with it and best of luck to you! Don't forget to evaluate your progress and make adjustments as necessary... there's no way to hit it perfect the first time before you even post a video. There will be things you can improve on and you can know what those are based on your analytics and any comments you get from viewers. Best of luck to you!!
Yes, the outdoor videos are wonderful!!! Somehow very relaxing when I listen!
Awesome :-) I'll be doing more ;)

Imposter syndrom... yep, I know "him." It's not easy to get rid of. I'm still working on it!
That sawfish was awesome to see. Thanks for sharing!
It's definitely not easy! Sometimes we all just need a reminder that it's ok to NOT be an expert in the thing(s) we want to talk about :-)

Dude you’re reading my mail. I have not posted some videos to my channel for that exact feeling.
Haha! Sometimes it's scary how could RUclips has become at knowing what videos people want to watch ;-)
Aside from the occasional wind, everything is perfect 🙂 And yeah even people ahead of you can benefit from a different perspective.
Thank you for watching! :-)
thank you. Spot on. We all resonate with different personalities and different kinds of info at different times in our lives
