"James Corden, host of CBS' "The Late Late Show," was briefly banned from a popular New York City restaurant on Monday after the owner accused him of being "abusive" to his staff over order errors. Corden's ban was lifted after he called to apologize, the restaurateur said.
"James Corden is a hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny cretin of a man," Keith McNally, the owner of French restaurant Balthazar, wrote on Instagram. "And the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago."*

Being a chef for almost 50 years it amazes me how some people act in restaurants. Mistakes happen.
☝️☝️☝️Thanks for your feedback.Tell THOMPSON, my manager,I referred you to him for a profitable investment..........
And why are people rude to the people that's preparing your food 🤷♂️ doesn't make sense to me
some people just think that their night out is so much more important than everyone else’s, they’d be personally insulted, by the mere idea, that their order could possibly have been handled incompetently enough to come out wrong. were’s the consideration for my status!?
how could you let this happen?! wtf, omg.. seriously, how dare you.
they’re called narcissists. lol
@@kkaybaltimore
It's a huge rule of thumb of mine to never send food back to the kitchen or piss off people who prepare and serve my food.
It's common sense.
The worst people are those who are happy to abuse those people who are in no position to answer back.
You can tell the “Karen’s” on here… they are the ones who are defending James and calling people bitter. They have never worked in customer service. People are mean as hell and like to treat those in service positions like crap. Sorry some people can’t handle the truth of things.
As a restaurant worker, nothing irritates me more than when customers yell at me about how their food was cooked as if I’m the one cooking it
@JH that doesn’t mean someone has the right to yell at me if they don’t like how the food is cooked. It’s the same for any customer service job, don’t call A customer service line and tell the rep it’s their fault that you have an issue of some sort. It doesn’t make us want to rectify the situation. I’ve had a customer yell at me and when I tried to help by comping drinks they just said they weren’t coming back, so I responded “good please don’t.”
I can't stand people who are absolutely horrible to anyone in the service industry. People don't get paid enough to deal with literal nonsense.
They're insecure. This gives them a false sense of superiority!
as someone working in customer service... there's nothing better than a manager/team leader/ boss who has your back! 🙏🏻
If your boss does not have the "support your staff until proven they're a jerk who are actively trying to hurt your business" attitude, then it's time to get a different boss if you can.
The true character of someone is revealed by how they treat the less powerful, especially waiters/servers
What about wait staff who abuse patrons, especially over undeserved tips.
@@Handlebrake2 do you have something against restaurant workers or something? Or are you just playing devil's advocate in a weird way?
@@fruithippie I mean it's a genuine comment.
@@Handlebrake2 that’s not a thing. You are doing the “both sides” “ false equivalence“ thing. Dickish, If you will.
@@Handlebrake2 ummm... Look. If somebody deserves it, then it's ok to get annoyed. But when somebody does NOT, then you bloody well treat them like a human being. Mistakes happen. Be nice to each other. It's not difficult.
I wonder if his wife had to go to counselling, I mean the shock of finding egg white in her egg yolk omelette! The horror!
We haven't been in everyone's shoes, AND, that doesn't give people the right to be assholes. It costs everyone NOTHING to be kind, show empathy and compassion, and to thank people for the work they do even if something or everything doesn't go right. The lesson here is, "Be kind always. It doesn't cost you a thing."
It’s ok to send food back if it’s unsatisfactory, just proceed in a kind and respectful manner towards the human beings that work in the restaurant.
People can’t do that tho… they take it as a personal slight….lol
@@goldenboy5022 I think it's taken as a personal slight because customers hardly ever do it respectfully. I've worked in the food industry for decades years and years and have witnessed maybe 4 times where someone sends food back respectfully. So.rkne always has to insult the intelligence of one of the staff.
I was at a restaurant that was really over worked once. Some customers were torturing the serving staff over it - though there was nothing they could do. The people I was with didn't complain at all that our food took well over an hour. When it arrived, one apologized to our server about how people were behaving. He came back with a free bottle of wine for us .
If getting free drinks is important to Corden, he should be kind.
But what is important to him is being cruel because he thinks this makes him look important or powerful. If his wife didn't want him to do this, she'd tell him. She probably enjoys it.
But there's an f ing hair in it.
@@fruithippie
I worked in food service when I was in college. People were AWFUL, especially if they had been drinking! I’m always very respectful of food service workers, and I tip very well - because it’s very hard work and they / you deserve respect and generous tips! There are a lot of establishments where I live in which you can have a very nice lunch for $10.00 - $12.00. I always just match the amount of the check with the tip in those cases, because I think it’s warranted. A lot of people leave $2.00 - $3.00, which I guess is technically 20%, but I don’t think that’s enough! I have some friends who are much better off financially than I am, and I can’t believe what they think is an adequate tip. When I’m with them, I feel like I have to tip more to compensate for them. If someone is rude to waitstaff, I will never go to a restaurant with them again, and I tell them why.
I worked on a set with him. He is just as nasty as being described here. Entitled and always punching down at crew around him. One actor I knew spoke about how he is hated by a lot of other celebrities as when you speak to him, he’s always looking over your shoulder to see if there is someone more ‘important’ to speak to. Awful human being and I hated working on set with him.
He has reputation in the UK for being extremely rude and arrogant to everyone including his fans.
"That's why I follow the golden rule from the movie "Waiting", don't f*** with the person handling your food."
And to treat someone serving you like that, definitely is a Karma Freight Train waiting to head your way.
If your not happy at a restaurant tell the server the problem and have it fixed, there's no reason to make a production of war and peace about it
They're just trying to maje a living and provide fir their families. They don't deserve abuse.
They tried getting it fixed three times lol
@@natalieh8023 he just made a national apology on his show
@@phil4208 I know lol
A good man once said: "If your date is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, they are NOT a nice person."
That good man's name is Dave Barry
That is very true. The way you treat someone you think is below you says who you are especially if you think someone is below you.
James may not be a nice person, but I wasn't there. I do, however, agree with Dave's sentiment in the quote I shared (which may be butchered, as it's from memory).
When I've dealt with Karens, working retail, I will joke: "They were nice... A long time ago"
Correct.
Yep, if they're only nice because they want something from you, run the heck away.
He has a reputation of being a jerk.
Who orders an egg yolk omelette? I've never even heard of such a thing, egg white omelettes yes, all yolks, that's a new one.
Why on earth would you be nasty to a waiter who doesn't prepare your food? Call the manager, have a quiet word, reach a compromise, walk away... Its scary how restaurant staff get treated like "less than" people.
But if we say anything people tell us to get a new job because we are bitter. How bout people learn respect for those other humans.
I’ve waited on Ray Romano more than once in Lana’i City, as well as many of his co-stars and his family. Once we accidentally put cheese on one of his kid’s sandwich who had asked for no cheese. And the way his kid handled it says so much about who Ray is as a man and father: his kid was so kind and understanding, one of the most polite people to receive a wrong order in my experience. Huge props to Ray for raising a (big) family with love and kindness in mind and heart.
☝️☝️☝️Thanks for your feedback.Tell THOMPSON, my manager,I referred you to him for a profitable investment..........
Good on the manager having his server's back.
Yeah, I don't mess with the people responsible for preparing my food.
If there were multiple incidents of dissatisfied service; why did he go back?
It’s about more than this one story. There’s multiple stories out there of James being a terrible person
Three things can not remain hidden for long…
The Sun
The Moon
N
The Truth! 😜
How to be a welcomed regular at a bar or restaurant. 1) Be polite 2) Tip well 3) Don't hit on the wait staff
As a Brit , I am appalled that James, ( given his humble background ) , has fallen victim to the celebrity god complex . Not only will His mom and dad will be ashamed of him , but trust me , his fellow Englanders will be even more pissed off .
As an American I'm not at all surprised because most celebrities from most countries have a superiority complex. It's nothing new man.
I'm a Brit too, and he's always been a spoiled little Mummy's boy.
People have said for years, that Cordon is a jerk! There are many stories about his antics.
There’s an old saying, “when someone shows you who they are, believe them”.
💯💯
Only a fool or an idiot will piss off their server. You dont wanna know what they can do to your food before it arrives. I wonder which one Corden is.
I've seen it
Never mess with anybody who prepares you food. Seriously. That's just common sense.
Arrogant behaviour is a HUGE problem in England with celebrities. Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson and Corden are just some of the worst.
☝️☝️☝️Thanks for your feedback.Tell THOMPSON, my manager,I referred you to him for a profitable investment..........
Don't piss off the people handling your meals, simple.
☝️☝️☝️Thanks for your feedback.Tell THOMPSON, my manager,I referred you to him for a profitable investment..........
Just because someone is a celebrity it does not mean he or she is a good person.
The term "Celebrity" should be replaced with "someone we see and hear too much of". But that takes too long to say.
Corden has a history of getting too big for his boots when appearing in Gavin and Stacey, so this does not surprise me at all.
By contrast, a few days ago friends & I had dinner at a restaurant in downtown LA and were seated at a table next to Jimmy Kimmel. The restaurant owner was eating with Jimmy & his group. They were both friendly & engaging with our table throughout. Jimmy treated the servers kindly. He also put a napkin over his arm and asked a server to let him take food to another table where he knew the diners. That's one celebrity who has earned my respect!
Amazing this is why jimmy is so loved
I attended a taping of one of his shows years ago (it was free and a fun way to spend an afternoon in LA) and he not once spoke to a single person when the cameras were off. Not the audience, his staff, not a single person. He just stared into his phone like he was annoyed.
NEVER be nasty to restaurant staff in a restaurant you eat at - there are some staff that will put things like special sauce in your food and drinks. Not to mention you will get further with management by being nice about your complaint. When I go to restaurants, I want the staff to be thrilled to see me, and not dread having to serve me.
I was going to say .I wonder how much spit was in that egg.lol
Never trust anyone who is rude to servers…it’s a red flag as to what their real character is.
Ex Aussie PM Scott Morrison's belly dangles left and right while he is roaming on the beach. Also a black wax comes out of his belly button.
Exactly, if they are willing to be a trash person to someone who is handling their food. Imagine someone who's just walking down the street.
I know someone that worked with him in LA and said he was unbearable, rude & demanding to most people around him.
"Tiny Cretin of a man" 😆😆 Literally the most perfect use of a rarely used phrase
To all the "I don't send the food back" customers, send it back! I worked in restaurants for 25 years and every one of them wanted customers to draw attention to the staff that there is a problem with their food. You do the restaurant a disservice by not sending your food back. Just don't be a D about it and we always offered the customer one free dessert and remedied the issue, but a free round of drinks, never. Yes, send it back!!!!
It's ok to send food back. Nobody is saying it isn't. It's HOW you send it back that's important.
You can tell a lot about people based on how they treat servers and others working in the service industry. IMO, Being rude to staff reflects poorly on your character as a person.
Yep, you can tell they’re having a bad day as we all do
@@claytonbrown7120 I have bad days all the time. I never take it out on the dude serving me.

I'm failing to understand why people keep referring to James Corden as a comedian.
It was very generous of America to have taken Piers Morgan and James Corden off our hands, even if only for a while….
The chickens always come home to roost... he who laughs last, laughs loudest 🙂

So he's the Female version of Ellen

Nobody orders pure egg yoke omelets. That's faff.
The restaurant staff screwed up an order, James did "Cats". Who should be ashamed?
He never was funny, the ban should of stood, his fake apology meant nothing and wont change his attitude toward waiting staff
Here in the UK Corden is famous for shit like this. Recently he did a big public apology and said about how he was going to change- clearly that didn’t last long.
Alcoholics number one statement when in the denial stage...

Most well behaved Brits are just 2 pints away from being a hooligan.
The way he acts deflects a deeper issue of his insecurities. I can’t imagine how he treats his wife behind close doors.
I've never worked for Corden but in L.A. it's been said he's "the next Ellen" meaning he's horrible to his work staff. When I saw this story, I thought it squared to what's been said about him behind the scenes. He has apologized. I don't feel sorry for any celebrity who has been called out for this shitty behavior. If this has humbled him in any way, it's a plus for anyone that has to work with him.
There are numerous stories out there from people who work on Corden’s show about how horrible he is to work with. This is not surprising.
Not defending Corden's behaviour but if he was a non-celebrity customer and he acted the same way and got barred would the owner have publicised the event? I think the answer is no. So why publicise it just because people know Corden's name?
This isn't news.
Service industry doesn't mean servant industry. Treat people like people
I recommended him, 8 or so years ago. Please forgive my shortsighted stupidity.
You’re forgiven
Accepted
The surprising issue is that McNally backed up the server. The majority of owners would sell any server for $1
Maybe after this, Dreamworks will stop hiring him for voice acting.
Wow a conservative being rude at people trying to make a living. Karen behavior.
James and Ellen could have a reality show where therapists confront their narcissistic, abusive personalities.
Perhaps a courtroom drama as well…
To get banned from a restuarant is tough. He mustve been insanely bad
for someone that famous, there was no way the price of the restaurant bill outweighed the price of his reputation. very stupid of corden.
Also a lot is pretentiousness of the Restaurant though high quality...
and since Corden is leaving the show soon he's certainly fallen from A list darling which must take its toll especially in front of his wife.
As a citizen of James Corden’s home country, I say he’s America’s problem now and most of us in England don’t want him back. You have to deal with him now. I don’t make the rules.
LOL
Really, speaks volumes of his character when the mother land doesn’t want you back😅. We had the same thing with Justin Bieber in the late 90’s or 20’s😅
Ok, we’ll trade you trump for him
If I'm remembering U.S. history right it was a bunch of U.K.'s rejects that made the rules, like 250 years ago.
Corden became a household name in the UK as one of the writers of "Gavin & Stacey" a TV comedy where he also plays the best friend of the main character. His character is a guy who drinks too much and constantly does stupid shit.. which does seem to match his real life persona.
Check any Reddit thread about "rudest celebrity you've ever met" and one of the top answers is always James Corden.
Apparently almost anybody that meets him randomly out on the town has a negative experience with Corden being very rude, dismissive, arrogant, etc. People in the service industry that have to interact with him e.g. at restaurants frequently say he's a douchebag. This story aligns with that.
