I'm pretty sure this is a remastered or relaunched video from a couple of years ago, anyway his relaxed vibes really touched me. Its nice to hear someone to remind you that you're not on a race all the time.
I agree that Kmart he was at, 2:34 on 770 broadway has been permanently closed for a while now and the advertisements have been taken down. I'd. date this video to be atleast two years old.
@@marlenamertens1326 Second the K-Mart. It's had the Wegman's ads up for the last year or more. With the business barricade/plywood artwork, I'd make a guess at late 2020. October to November-ish.
Ex bike courier here. Finally someone with the courage to admit the value of brakes. Even thou in love w a fixie. Be responsible guys, instead of cool. ❤
If I rode a fixie, I’d define have a front brake. I ride a regular road bike and 80-90% of my stopping power comes from my front brake. I only use my back brake to slow down slightly at higher speeds because it’s far less powerful.
Ebin Weis is the man. My kind of cyclist, relaxed while enjoying the city. It took me years to figure out I didn't have to be in race mode or get angry at people doing dumb things. Once I realized I was choosing to ride angry, I readjusted my attitude and expect stupid stuff to happen. I remember saying to myself it won't kill you to slow down. That made all the difference. I always enjoyed Ebin's writing over at Bike snob, where he hilariously punctures attitude in cycling culture. Great to see his wit carries over to video. Shout out to Terry for posting this. Hope to see more.
That shot for the "street lights" section of the video with Weis rolling up and stopping at the stoplight, just such a great shot. Best part of the whole vid for me. A++ video.
What a great video. Of the many things that I appreciated (including the brakes) was the sage advice about stop lights. I used REALLY hate them (and I'm only in Portland) but I have grown to embrace them as a opportunity like you encouraged.
I love this video, nice contrast to our normally scheduled Terry B. While I do at times get a little more aggressive on the streets then some may think is safe, my over all philosophy to moving around an urban area by bike is to be seen, but not felt as I move through the city. "Leave no wake".
Ha, Bike Snob, do you remember in your early days, when I used to get on and make bizarro comments, from Australia, absolutely blasted on Absinthe, beer and various narcotics, after wild messenger partying on Friday night, and into Saturday mornings, then riding 10 k's home , on brakeless track bike when I couldn't even walk...somehow making it home, time after time, my faithful steed somehow getting me there. Semi incoherent blasts of bile, my comments were......you may recall, you may not. You certainly noticed them then.... Good to finally see your face, and see that your humour is unchanged, we may mellow, but we do not change in spirit. I'm practically straight edge now, don't drink, and gave up weed a few months ago, my mind even more wicked for it. I opened channels with acid, decades ago , that never close, absolutely no regrets there, or about any of it! But there was a time and place for that, it was called the decade of the late 90's, early noughties, for me! I retired '09, moved to the country, bush in fact, worked in a truck trailer factory, made big eff off Aussie ones, place full of lovely country folks . Now in Riga , Latvia, back in the local bike community, fixing, spreading the joy, touching lives, rather than just riding!
I still ride my fixed gear with a front brake. But to be honest I haven’t touched it for like 2 years now. It’s just nice to have it in there in case sh*t happens.
Your bike has breaks, accommodate them (the pedestrians). I like how you think! I am a slow biker who stops at most stop lights (not stop signs- fuck that) and waits for pedestrians - embarrassing. Biking helps me to not be in a hurry - I see so many things I wouldn’t if I was driving. Like the dead deer in the ditch that’s been slowly decomposing since July. I’ve named him Bill. Poor Bill.
Now that is a true knight, a gentleman. I learned to switch my riding mode from gentleman to beast whenever I have the opportunity. There is a right time and the right place for everything. I use brakes.
You forgot to mention where you'll have to true your wheels every week because the roads in NYC are absolutely atrocious and filled with pothole after pothole. Maybe I don't know how to ride a bicycle or something lol, but after riding my fixie (well it's mostly on the freewheel side for the time being while I learn how to ride fixed) for a week, a handful of the spokes of my rear wheel are loose and squeaky, which was never the case on my MTB. I actually kinda enjoy the rough ride with zero suspension in a weird way, but I really hope there's something I can do to not have to mess with my spokes every week.
I have a front brake on my fixed gear. I use it when necessary, not all the time. Most of the time I slow my cadence. However, I'm able to ride faster with it because I can slow down faster with it. I am a courier @ Aloha Couriers and one of the faster couriers due to having a brake and being able to decelerate rapidly without skidding. Preference is freedom, ride how you want, as long as you keep those legs Turning 🤙🏻
Thanks for adding the wisdom of being faster with a brake. Many people aren't aware of this, but it's less wasted energy. I use mine mainly for modulation. Underrated comment.
Thanks for this video and the tips provided. Be nice and ride safe. I really like the black bicycle cap though (BSNYC)! Is this available online? Or where can I get one instead? Thanks for telling us.
As someone that likes to commute by bike and walk around the city its baffles me how little attention some people on bikes pay to pedestrians. Do you not realize how close yall sometimes fly by pedestrians on a shared path? Cant count how many times I almost got scraped by someone riding a bike cause they felt the need to pass as fast and close arround me as they can. Relax, take it slow. there are times during commutes to go fast and there are times to go slower.
I am an mtb rider and track stands are so essential to improving your bike handling overall. I don't think it looks pretentious. I looks like you know how to really ride a bike. It does freak uninformed drivers out sometimes. I wish they would just drive instead of gawking at me.
“This is why monks meditate to bells and don’t shout ‘On your left left!’ at each other” 😂
I love the Hotline videos but this is how I ride 80% of the time. Thanks Bike Snob NYC.
Live slow, die old.
Same lmao
@@johnrummo2974 I ride slow, but woman on a motorbike hit me eventually 😥😂😂

'A STOP sign is an opportunity for mindfulness.' Great philosophy right there!

After reading Bike Snob, this is exactly what I expected from a video version. Simply hilarious.
2:35 that's a quality shot right there! Love the more casual approach to fixed gear riding, Ebin seems like a sound guy!
I love when you make videos with him(and this style of video in general too).
we are looking to create some more
I like this guy. Can he be regular. I need to decaff after all the casual cuts on this channel. Life is good when it's slow.
this guy has just single handedly changed the way i ride and maybe survive a few years longer.
even layered with a bunch of irony, we all get along if we respect each other and give way when we can
This guy can stop any fight or argument.
I believe his shtick is inciting arguments
Love this guy. Nice chill vibe. Nice work on the edit as well.
A nice counterpoint to the hotline series, and so well presented!
This person gave me Jerry Seinfeld vibes by way in which he explained things. This was great and I assume a tad bit of irony given your channel?
“The slow life is the good life” I loved it! I was thinking is this for real?? Yes! Shredding politely
Beautiful contrast with the shreddiness on this channel. Two ways of riding bikes but the same passion!
I feel like he needs a show on NPR. I do really enjoy his videos.
Is this an atonement for the hotline series?
More videos with Evan aka Bike snob. Awesome vibe Terry 👍👍🚴♂️
Eben
these are always my favorite videos on the channel
I like this guy a lot. The two videos I have seen with him have definitely changed the way I ride for the better.
What a great video. Of the many things that I appreciated (including the brakes) was the sage advice about stop lights. I used REALLY hate them (and I'm only in Portland) but I have grown to embrace them as a opportunity like you encouraged.

Thanks for the educational content Bike Snob
Noted I don’t have to yell at pedestrians, even though it feels so good
Your boi has great camera presence, awesome vid
90% of the time im running a coaster brake in my track bike lol, started doing it initially after a ankle surgery but now I do it for fun

That lighting with the glow and flare gave this video two 👍🏽👍🏽
Nice video. I loved the tracking and exiting shots. A shame there won't be more in the series.
You’ve created so much suspense for me - why not?!
@Matt From what little I know, which is very little, the original company comissioning the video is no longer operating.
There is more to come, exclusively for this channel.
i like this kind of taking it easy approach.
rlly like this guy. reminds me that i dont need to be some swag fixed gear rider, i can just be a chill guy
its safe to say Terry has KINGED the 'Ride off' final shot.
Love this!
Second time i see a colab with this guy. Great philosophy! Lovely filming too as usual.

Such a nice gentleman! love riding fixie and also share his philosophy of always enjoying the ride. Great video!
This is one of the most polite videos I’ve seen here. Thanks.
Your video should be a must see , mandatory for all rides from fixed to cargobike.
Enjoy the summer and ride safe.
You make it look so easy. But we all know that being a fixie rider is a complex science.
Eben, you seem like such a kind, thoughtful dude. Thanks for that, very rare on the interwebs.
Love the bell and brake combo! Thanks, my guy! Cheers from Manila!
@Eben Weis
Shalom! You sound like a genuine man of Peace.

THIS IS THE VIDEO EVERYONE WAS LOOKING FOR ❤ I can now post this in the portouguese fixed gear users’ group (as a front brake rider) hahahahahaha

Very important public service vid, Terry B.!
+1 for the top tube sit 👍
Nice Zenful approach....btw is a fixed gear able to accommodate inclines/hills of the N.Y.C. variety?
Depends on the engine
I love you Terry, and I love Bike Snob.
Oh man! This is it! I'm buying a fixie! The host is a legend!
What a man, was waiting for Terry to appear and say, now do the opposite 🤣
Brakeless is 4 BMX only.
And I still prefer them bc I'm old and not worried about looking street.
