Stuart is gigantic! If you found him in the central to southern US, he's most likely a hispid cotton rat (a solitary species, so he is ok without another rat). You're clearly an great rat dad since he grooms your hand so much (proof he loves you). 10/10, would watch this video again.
@cobalt1754 well I'm definitely open to more knowledge - I thought he was just the run of the mill large mouse we see out in the country all the time but I was never able to pin him to a mouse species definitively so I stopped looking. That's great news about the fact that they're solitary. I figured he was doing very well on his own and with my daily interaction and enrichment. He hasn't shown any negative behavior whatsoever. At any rate, thanks for the comment and I'll keep on posting Stuart videos. His new enclosure should be done soon.
