Billions of years of evolution, millions of years of thought, thousands of years of emotion and feeling. Hundreds of cultures, thousands of races, billions of people, each with a story spanning eons ago. All wiped off the face of the Earth in just 7 hours. That’s the time to fully assemble a passenger airplane. Can you imagine? All those fully developed lives and stories, pain, happiness, joy, depression, all those experiences, evaporated out of existence? For what? A new rock to stand on?
I remember there was this ArmA 3 zombie mission called "Epidemic", and at some point in this abandoned research base, there was a radio playing this song. I just stopped there for a bit, listening to it. The song can also show how the world is ending, and how humanity is trying desperately to fight back.
Considering the lore of the game (and the entire series) it's a really powerful song. It transmits really well the feeling of fighting an unstoppable force and dealing with the incomprehensible. It's melancholic, but at the same time intriguing. What's the nature of the Vortessence? What is the goal of the Combine? How powerful are they? WHAT the hell is the G-man? Will humans ever be free? What could we do?
Honestly, this is the only Half-Life track that actually resonated with me, it wasn't the frantic battle themes from 1 or 2, no, it was this simple piano score from the most recent game, one I can't even play
I'm pretty sure this isn't the same recording as the one we hear in game. I reckon Mike re-recorded it for the OST as there's some minor pacing differences here and there. I still love it though. This is HLA's Hazardous Environments to me.
@nope ahaha yeah, I actually think triage at dawn is pretty meh, I enjoy the aggressive combat tracks. I get your gist though seeing how its the most popular track!
@@jamesanderson5727 Triage at dawn was wasted imo, we dont know who winston is and dont need to care that much for him, they could've used it when something actually sad happens ngl
It never occurred to me that until now, the title of this song could represent the 7 hour war so well. 37 minutes after 6 hours total. With such little time, 6:37 of those 7:00 hours could be the exact minute in which humanity began to lose hope. Perhaps those 23 last minutes remaining of the war were not spent fighting, and were rather humanity’s lowest point. Perhaps even grieving. This song’s somber feeling really gives me the thought that this is the sort of song that could go with the realization that the Combine truly were stronger in the end.
This song at the end with the repeating notes reminds me of that bird that was the last of its kind and was calling for its partner before it eventually died edit: ruclips.net/video/roS84cBwsPs/видео.html this is the video
I’m sure you’re referring to the kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird. Its song is both beautiful and creepy to listen to when you realize it was the last song to be recorded before the species became extinct.
It is 6:37 AM Youre hiding under a table in your home. You dont know where your parents are. You hear gunshots and explosions outside.. You still dont quite know what is going on but its getting quieter now. Is it over ?
This melody makes me feel strange shuffling feeling. It seems sad, but in some moments just for second it becomes a little bit positive. And then back to sad melody. Major and minor notes are mixed up very close and it makes some kind of "error" in my mind. Like should I be sad while listening to this or not?
I hate what this song makes me feel. I hate the moment it started playing within the game. It perfectly sums up everything, that everything stands for.
fyi, on one of russell's monitors, you can see the actual source code for the gravity gloves. i wouldn't be surprised if somebody decompiled the game and discovered that it is the exact code used.
I am having this feeling that ive heard this song somewhere else. Does anyone know the original name of the song if there really is any?
I don't know how much time has passed in between HL1 and the seven hour war but knowing that the combine basically hijacks the resonance cascade to send in their troops I think it was at most a few days after HL1 wich takes place sometime in between 2000 and 2009.
Hl1 takes place around 2000 and hl2 takes place around 2020 and dr Kleiner says in ep 1, “ for over a decade we haven’t been able to discuss freely” so anywhere from 2000 to 2010
