That's really funny about centaurs being weirded out by horses, and it makes a lot of sense. By that logic, to a centaur giraffes must be absolute nightmare fuel.

There is a good reason to take the Weapon Familiarity - and it's independent of the Centaur: basically, if you are playing a Ruffian Rogue you get to use Sneak Attack with any martial weapons that inflicts 1d6 or less - and, most importantly, any simple weapon that inflicts 1d8 or less.
This allows, for example, a dwarf ruffian to go bananas on the opponents with a battleaxe; and, of course, most other ancestries have their own 1d8 bundles of awesomeness in store, ready to bring down the pain on the opponents - because to them they're Simple, and therefore allowed.

Centaurs love the night and stars. I also assume they are predominantly nocturnal hunters. That's where I assume their Darkvision comes from.
