  • Mel-O-Toons (sometimes erroneously spelled Mello Toons) were a series of animated cartoons , using limited animation, and were produced starting in 1959 by New World Productions (not to be confused with the production company founded by Roger Corman) and syndicated by United Artists.[1] The stories featured various folk tales, Greco-Roman myths, Biblical stories, classic literary adaptations, and adaptations of classical music and ballet. The soundtracks were often taken from existing children's records, licensed from the original labels, including RCA Records and Capitol Records. 104 cartoons were produced, each had a run time of 6 minutes.
After many years out of circulation, public domain prints have turned up on videotape and DVD. - wikipedia

Tbh, besides the one major error that he discovered the world was round (he incorrectly believed it was pear shaped), as it had been known to be round since Aristotle, everything else it said was pretty truthful, they pointed out that he was looking for India and thought he’d found it (he still believed he’d made it to India when he died years after his voyages) and that the American natives are known as Indians due to his mistake, obviously they left out the whole bloody genocide part, but you could argue that was more to do with Columbus’s brother than with him, although Columbus himself did also commit crimes against the natives (for which he was imprisoned)

They willingly traded everything they owned... . They were well-built, with good bodies and handsome features.... They do not bear arms, and do not know them, for I showed them a sword, they took it by the edge and cut themselves out of ignorance. They have no iron. Their spears are made of cane... . And the women of an acceptable age were sold into sexual slavery. The able-bodied men were worked to death in the mines. The Spanish crown was angry not so much at the atrocities, but the idiocy of killing off the workforce. That's why they ended up having to ship enslaved Africans to the Caribbean to compensate for Columbus' incompetence.

"In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue...." just like politics, this portion of history is under-summarized and over-simplified to fit an agenda, describing how this land was "discovered" based on an adventurer's curiosity. As I understand it, it's more than curiousity that drove the Spaniards west. I recommend reading "They came before Columbus" to get, at least, a proper background leading up to Columbus's travels. Should be required reading in public schools imo.

I think it's important to state the author's name with the work.

Miss Shannon thanks for clarifying and yes, important to state and credit the author. Just now halfway through the book but mostly appreciate the volume of references that substantiate the work.
I’ve recently stumbled over Dr. Frances Cress Welsing in a H2N broadcast and was impressed by her historical analysis related to African Americans. She, along with Tony Brown and others, dismantled the notion pushed by Dr Shockley that black genetics were inferior when compared to those with less melanin. (Term he used was “dysgenics”). She is certainly a warrior for truth.

Christopher Columbus for far too long was regarded as the hero who brought Christianity to America.
It was only in the last 20 years that the truth about him came into the public consciousness, and about the same time schools had only started to teach the truth about his blood soaked rampage and touching off a genocide that nearly wiped out the people of an entire hemisphere, a body count neither Hitler, Stalin, or Mao could 'achieve'. And those genocides seemed sterile in comparason to what Columbus and his men did to the people who were already here. Ripping babies out of their mothers' arms and smashing them against rocks while roaring with laughter. Or holding contests to see who can slice an indigenous person in two with one stroke of the sword. Or cutting off the ears of indigenous people who refused to convert to Christianity. Or how about packing as many indigenous people as they could into stone houses like sardines, locking them inside, and setting the structure on fire? Just a few of the many barbarities and monsterous acts committed under Columbus's conquest of the Americas. His actions were so horrific, that the Spanish Crown issued a warrant for his arrest and he was brought back to Europe in chains. This was quite a feat, considering just how violent and crime ridden Europe was at the time, and that the indigenous people were thought to be subhuman by the Crown.
Unfortunately, Christopher Columbus's legacy lives on by countless examples that continue through to this very day.
Don't forget Columbus justified all of his actions with the Bible.

The natives who inhabited those lands called themselves The Tianos.Translation, (Espaniol) has referred to them as La Tianos, or The Tianos) later mixed into the language as Latino, insinuating people of Latin descent. Arawak (Local), the, word "Latino" in historical reference actually means "The Tiano's" (native caribbeans) in the old Spanish dialect. Just another History Lesson. But the language of Espanol did in most parts originate from the Latin dialect, but Latin is not the same meaning as (Latino). The Latino people of the Caribbean Islands, is what Latino means. And you should be damn proud of you heritage. Natives Tiano, Spanish, and African, have made up the modern racial mix of modern Caribbeans. Plus the origins of "Los Indios", or "Indian" as the long-standing term for somebody of native/indigenous descent in the Americas. Although he was sailing to the Indies, not India. Meaning the Spice Islands of Indonesia. The native Dayak and Batak people were known to traders through stories, so the appearance of the Taino and Carib tribes seemed similar enough to what he had heard about.

No. One man cannot be blamed for the natives' lack of immunity to old word germs. That would be a lie. Sheesh folks, he never even made it to the mainland, so how could he have killed millions of people?

He acted and talked tough just like a Mafia crime boss and a mobster does and used intimidation tactics like having people beat up and killed who didn't pay up or obey him. He also took out a contract killing on his enemies.
The Columbo crime family is one of the top 5 Italian crime families. They are Bonanno, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese, and Lucchese crime families.

#1 No one knew a continent was there
#2 that has nothing to do with the art of navigation
#3 Columbus was a master at dead reckoning (an art of navigation) he was able to find his way back to Hispaniola multiple times with precision accuracy even in a terrible storm. He didn’t even use any navigational tool
#4 as a simple google search will tell you Yes. He was an exceptional navigator.
Columbus had a talent for dead-reckoning navigation the likes of which had been seen in few others. He had the ability to visit a place once and return to it again with almost no margin of error. On the return of the first voyage, he and the other navigators at one point all attempted to guess where they were. The others thought they were near Spain, Columbus said they were rather west of the Azores. All of them were off in their exact position, but five days later they sighted the Azores. Columbus was most correct.
He has been criticized for being a poor celestial navigator. True he was not nearly as good as some others, but celestial navigation was rather a new thing in his day. Also, the mistakes he made have also been made by better more modern navigators. When Columbus was near Cuba, he attempted to determine the latitude by celestial means and believed he was near 43° N, modern day New York. The mistake occurred because he used the wrong star, beta cephei (Alfirk) rather than Polaris. Samuel Eliot Morrison, author of Admiral of the Ocean Sea and an experienced sailor and navigator on his own right, admits he made this same mistake in the same place in 1939.

You had Christian Castille and Leon, which at that time were busy fighting to conquer the territory of said caliphate. The very last day of this period (known as the Reconquista) was an exact year and a day before the very day he left. The united kingdoms which became Spain were united with Portugal at the time as the Iberian Union. They had petty land squabbles often, most notably the one over South America that would lead to the pope making them sign the Treaty of Tordesillas which gave Portugal Brazil, and Spain almost everything else. The loophole came in the form of trying to take Japan, which ended badly and resulted in the brutal persecution of Christianity no thanks to their greed angering those who would become the first shoguns of the Tokugawa Dynasty. Otherwise, they were partners and allies on most everything, particularly the Spanish Inquisition (that was doing it to appease the pope). Google it.
